Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.
KKCO - finished test knits <3 I finished the test knit hat I was working on last week for C. I loved the pattern so much I instantly cast on one for K.  I will be sure to tell you all about the pattern as soon as it is okay to share!

What are you working on? Happy creating!

Relief is in sight!

K and Beowulf (pic by C) pic by C Above photos taken by C C and Paw Paw (by K) Above photo taken by K L and the garden of weeds admiring the honeybees No luck finding my other lens (on Kevin's camera) but I found these gems on my computer from earlier in the month. The girls love to take photographs of each other. I think the above photos were for a dog show flyer they were planning. I'm not sure what happened to that project though. Guess they moved on to other things instead.

I am happy to report that I actually made dinner last week for the first time in months. I have been craving the Caesar salad from Oh She Glows and I just couldn't take it any longer (My copy of OSG, by the way, is literally falling apart from being used so much). My children and I were supposed to have a deal where they did any possible stinky dishes in the sink for me beforehand and then I would make dinner.  Unfortunately the didn't live up to their end of the bargain, apparently the pool was more enticing to them. Oh well. I plugged my nose and carried on. I am so happy I did. I haven't felt that good in a long time. That salad was just what I needed. I am even being brave at the moment and creating a meal plan for our grocery shopping on the first. Another round of Caesar salad is already on the list - I might just live off of that for the remainder of my pregnancy. Lets hope I can actually cook all that I am envisioning. Relief is finally in sight!

KCCO

We almost had a KCCO post without a photograph. I haven't sent in my broken lens yet because I figured I could just borrow my other lens from Kevin's camera to use until next pay day, saving me some money and time. Well, I forgot to remind Kevin that I needed it this weekend so he spent an hour today searching for it to no avail. It is somewhere in this house of ours, but since I have been out of commission... well simply put - our house is a wreck right now. It would take a search party to find anything! Oh well, we'll search again this weekend. In the meantime I was able to fidget with my broken lens enough to take one photograph.

But enough about my camera drama - on to the crafting! I am a very lucky girl working on a test knit for a friend. This little project is just the thing I need to get me back to my knitting, and oh what a beautiful pattern it is!! Can't wait to share more with you.

A little joy to start the week with!

little spud little spud
I had my first appointment to check on our little blessing last week. I was so nervous and excited all at the same time. With every pregnancy I fear the worst until I see my sweet little one on the screen and hear his/her little heartbeat for the first time. It's just my nature to worry, I guess. This time around I held my breath as the doctor searched for the heartbeat, as soon as he found it tears filled my eyes and I finally felt like I could truly accept and prepare for this miracle. I could let my guard down a bit and allow myself to be happy. Now, as soon as I am up to it, on to the baby crafting, nesting and baby name lists!

KCCO

Still can't bring myself to knit but I can do a few embroidery stitches here and there now. Happy dance! I started work on some Christmas ornaments that I have been wanting to make since I bought the kits back in Oregon. You can find them here. Maybe I will actually finish one by Christmas.

When I took pictures of our chamomile over the weekend my camera was acting up. I tried to ignore the warnings, allowing myself to think its acting up because it sat getting dusty for weeks. But then when I tried taking my KCCO pic my suspicions were confirmed - the lens is out of whack (again) and needs to be sent in for a repair. It won't focus manually or with auto. Last time I had to send it in (for the same reason) was just before Little L was born so at least it will be back in shape for this baby's birth.

Wild

German Chamomile German Chamomile harvesting reading herb fairies nibbling and studying chamomile noticing chamomile's cone shape herb fairies herb fairies
I haven't made it out to check on my garden in weeks. In fact, the last time I saw it, all my plants were little seedlings. Imagine my surprise when I stepped out to check on it this weekend and saw it had gone wild. I mean, I knew it was growing and the children were picking things from it but I still was not prepared for what I saw! Our plants are not yet producing anything, for the most part, except for a few herbs, including our German Chamomile.

I took advantage of that moment - the beautiful weather, feeling well enough to be outside for a short while, my happy children and chamomile in need of harvesting. I set a quilt down by our garden, grabbed book number five in the Herb Fairies series (Miles the chamomile fairy) along with the audio story of it and called the children over. As I started the story for them I ran over to the chamomile and picked a few flowers for the children to taste and study as they listened. Then I got to work harvesting more to dry out for tea, enjoying the story along with them.

After finishing the story, we can't wait until next week when Kevin gets paid. We are chomping at the bit to try the chamomile fruit salad and chamomile infused honey recipes. Even if I can't manage to cook or be in the kitchen at the moment, I think I can handle those!

p.s. - Ugh. Flickr is being weird with my photos again. I'm working on it!

Well, here is a photograph from the past! This was taken back in Oregon when Little L was still a baby. Oh how the time really does fly! I swear it is related to crafting, though. Since I can't actually make anything with my hands right now, I am crafting in my mind. I want to add a cradle veil to this Moses basket stand for the new baby. You can see pictures of what I mean here and here. How can I go about doing this? Is it even possible? I am thinking I would need to attach it to the stand itself because we move it around the house quite a bit (so hanging silk from the ceiling isn't an option). But honestly, I have no clue what I am doing here so any help would be greatly appreciated!

What are you working on?! Happy creating!

p.s. - I feel I should put it out there just in case anyone worries about the baby and possible SIDS - we use this when baby is awake and I am unable to wear him/her at the moment. Also nice for siblings to play with baby while in this without fear of smothering (they love one another so!).

Rainbows

a fox and a deer on the coolest climbing structure EVER! rainbow dresses in the rose garden rainbow dress C's rainbow C's dress trim rainbows K's rainbow rainbows my girlies happy rainbows C, "Is she wearing bloomers?" C - "I want to see if she is wearing bloomers."

I apologize for not posting last Wednesday. I had every intention to but then I just felt too sick. I tried again the following day, but again, I felt too sick. The computer screen and/or moving images just seems to make my nausea worse. I now have a deeper appreciation for those mama bloggers that can continue blogging through their first trimester without missing a beat. Maybe they aren't as sick? I am just one of those lucky mamas that gets severe morning sickness 24/7 for the first 16 weeks or so of pregnancy. It's miserable, yes, but it is also a comfort that baby is hanging in there, especially after some spotting over the past couple of weeks. So if I can post even just two times a week right now I will take that as a small victory! I am praying that the Earth Mama Angel Baby Morning Wellness tea and Nux Vomica (homeopathic remedy) I just ordered might help, even in the smallest amount.

I did manage to pull myself together enough to make our biweekly grocery trip to Boise last Friday. Meal plans are out the window right now considering I can't step foot into our kitchen, let alone cook. But I wanted to come and help pick out some simple meals Kevin and/or K (my heroes!!) could make that wouldn't make my stomach do flips. Of course, these meals are far from our normal routine and are mostly frozen ready made items but I think we'll survive (he,he).  The grocery bill had me taken back a bit. My goodness it's a lot more expensive to buy ready made food! But again, I have to remind myself this is just a small moment in time and it soon shall pass.

The girls wore their rainbow dresses I made them for Christmas up to Boise so I took the chance to finally get a few photographs of them. I can tell by looking at the photographs that I was not feeling well because they are rushed looking (and they were!). Oh well. At least the dresses are now documented right?! Rav notes here.

How was your weekend?

P.S. - The fox and deer you see in the first photograph are on the coolest climbing structure ever!
