About

Hi there! I'm Nicole and it's a pleasure to meet you. I currently live in the beautiful state of Oregon with my husband Kevin, and our four beautiful blessings (ranging in age from pre-teen to baby). I believe in compassion and empathy and feel they will save our world and make it a better place (for babies!). I am quite a people loving, introverted, unorganized mess and don't try to hide it. Thankfully, knitting and other soothing crafts calm my nerves. Many of the moments I share on here are ones I want to remember, like when things actually do go right and then a lot of them are shared in spite of their failures.

I grew up with my family in upstate New York but started traveling and moving around as soon as I graduated high school. I have since lived all around America as well as overseas - California, South Korea and Georgia to name a few. My desire to settle down is becoming stronger but I still have this gypsy side that longs to see the world. My daughters and I hope to make it to Rome one day to see the Vatican (inspired by my joining the Catholic church in 2013).

I have always had animals in my life and cannot imagine what it would be like to not have at least one around. We currently have five cats that we rescued from various places as well and four dogs. Our female German shepherd is our only fur baby that wasn't a rescue.

We dream of having our own little farmhouse in the woods with lots of land. Even though our family is ever growing we would love a small, cozy home.
We are a homeschooling, nature loving, garden harvesting, simple living, organic powered family just trying to remember the beauty of the simple things every day.

You can find a little bit about why I blog here and here.

I love hearing from you, it really makes my day. You can contact me here or find me over on Instagram, my new happy place. I look forward to getting to know you!

Cooking and cleaning can wait till tomorrow,
For babies grow up, we've learned to our sorrow.
So settle down cobwebs, dust go to sleep,
I'm nursing my baby and babies don't keep.

Wow....life sounds busy but rewarding. Myself and my family too are involved in the 'Steiner World' ( I am in Australia and we call our schools Steiner Schools) My husband is a High School teacher and my three children all attend Shearwater Steiner School in Mullumbimby Northern NSW. Not to be left out I run a shop on the school grounds which is my personal business selling all the craft supplies and toys and books etc that are used in the classrooms......I just love my three days there with all the excitement and joy of the pupils.
I have only just discovered your wonderful blog and am just about to subscribe. Thanks so much xoxox Jo

I'm in Manhattan too and would love to connect with someone who appreciates the same things as I do. I grew up in Switzerland and attended 2 years of Steiner-Kindergarden and 12 years of Rudolf Steiner School. I have a 2.5 year old daughter and wish she had more friends here...Maybe this is weird to ask but would you be interested in connecting?

You really are an inspiration! I'm so glad I've discovered you! And - out of curiosity, what kind of sewing machine do you use? Do you find it works well with knits?

Thank you! Mysewing machine is from when I was a teenager. Just your basic Sears brand model. It really isn't all that great with knits :( I hope to someday upgrade my machine.
Found your blog via the rhythym post you wrote for the magic onions. Love it! I am a pediatric speech language pathologist, homeschooling 5 kids the past 4 years but this year is our first Waldorf year and WOW! I am loving it! We also homestead and have too many animals to name, but in AZ with dreams to move somewhere cooler later! blessings to you! stop by brighton park and say hello!

Welcome and thank you so much!!
Lovely to find your blog. I've got a plaque with that saying in our house, too. Although, it says, "my child is here, and children don't keep." Love both versions. It's always interesting to me how many families relocate for a Waldorf school. I can see why. I'm just starting to fall in love with Waldorf. Looking forward to delving in to your site. All the best, Kelly

Welcome Kelly! I often wondered if we were crazy to move across the country for a school but every morning when we are surrounded by our school community I wonder what took us so long!
Lovely to read your blog. Me and my husband so much fell in love with what Waldorf offers, we have started a waldorf school in Pune, India, in my hometown so many other children of other family member and friends can have opportunity to grow in this wonderful loving method. I gives a greta pleasure to offer something so unique back to your hometown. Please visit us at http://www.facebook.com/pages/AMOR-Pune-Steiner-W... and also at http://punesteinerschool.org/
Your blog is so inspiring! I am completelly in love with the pictures you take!
I found your blog while looking for a tutorial for crochet caps in pumpkin shape. I can see yours are knitted (wonderfull), but for sure I can use the idea.

Oh thank you so much.I can't even begin to tell you how much your comment means to me. I have been in this photography slump for over a month now because I haven't been able to get the shots I am envisioning in my head. You brightened my day with your kind words!!
Really enjoying your posts. Glad to have discovered your blog recently. Your photography is beautiful. We are homeschooling, but definitely borrow a lot from Waldorf, and our kids attend Waldorf art camps here in Portland in the summers. Really inspired by your creativity. Thanks!
Hello there. You have a lovely place here. My MIss4 started Steiner school in South-West England, last week. Just 3 mornings a week. It's a magical start to her schooling. I've been searching for Steiner/Waldorf blogs for inspiration on how to bring that world into our home. So I'm glad I've stumbled into yours!
Happy to find your blog! Just started a parent/child program at a Waldorf School with my daughter. (I was looking for the "Dusty Gnome" lyrics and that's how I found your blog.)
Nicole, this is my first visit to your sweet blog! I too am a homeschooling (retired) mother. Very nice to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you more. Gina
hello nicole, i found you over pinterest and enjoy your posts imensly. i grew up with waldorf teachings (kindergarden and 13 years of school) and your posts allways remind me of my childhood =) it is fun to now see the other side, all the reasons behind the things we had fun with as kids! i grew up in western germany and it was weird for me in the beginning that never mind where i went (Isreal, Romania etc.) i would meet waldorf people and it allways had a sense of home to it. even though the language is different, everything else is the same =)
Hi Nicole,
What a beautiful blog you have created - thank you! I have both been involved with the Waldorf world forever and now have two children at the Roaring Fork Waldorf school in Colorado. My husband, Charles Andrade has been Lazuring and teaching the technique in Waldorf schools all over the world for over 25 years. We just completed a DIY Lazure kit with a detailed instructional video as there is such limited and often incorrect information about the process. I thought this might be of interest to you? Here is a link that explains more about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBhx1_aFxUs
Thank you again for all of your information. Karyn
Hi, Nicole! I'm Amanda, from Brazil, from "bloganotacoesdemae.blogspot.com". I will put your blog on my lecture list, it's always good to change experience between mothers like you. God bless!!
Thanks for sharing
