Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Sewing my girls dresses for our annual pumpkin patch photos. I'm loving this fabric so much I want one for myself!

Happy Michaelmas!!

Lots going on here but no pictures to show for it! Canning season ends eventually, right?! Just so this isn't a photoless post, I'll share a photo from last week of wool the boys and I dyed with goldenrod.

Don't mind us. We are just over here doing our favorite autumn tradition - dipping leaves in beeswax! Tutorial here.

Apparently working on K's birthday gift, gardening, canning and preserving and planning the school year are not enough to keep me busy so I added painting over the black stairs to the list.

Well, I didn't meet my self imposed deadline for finishing the front of K's birthday vest (I had lofty goals of the end of August) but I am still moving along steadily.

Getting the slightest bit farther on K's birthday request vest sneaking in stitches here and there between all the tomato processing.

Also someone asked me last week about the yarn I am using in the comments section but for some reason I can't access the comments now. I apologize! The yarn is Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo in Sunset. HTH!

Just the usual around here - more knitting photos in the kitchen while I work on preserving.
I cast on K's birthday request and it has been slow going.

I am still continuing with house projects. I found this cute farmhouse stool at a yard sale. It was stained a reddish color and I couldn't remove it so I painted it white. My boys have used these farmhouse stools before and fallen off of them due to standing too close to the edge and making them tip. So I added some very imperfect stripes on this one to let them know just how close their feet could get to the edge before tipping it. So far it is working!

Hey there! This week's crafting on project isn't exactly crafting (again) but doing some work on our home. I love the brick in our kitchen but it consists of two out of the three walls in our kitchen and it makes it extremely dark, especially in the winter (for reference I had to really brighten up that first photo, the brick was a lot darker than it looks). I was thinking of whitewashing it but in the end I just decided to paint it. I did two coats of primer so far and it already looks so much brighter!

In the future I plan on replacing the black farmhouse sink with a white one as well as paint the cabinets but this simple paint job is all that our budget can handle for now.

I have been so busy in the kitchen processing all that is coming in from our garden that I nearly forgot my crafting on photo! It seemed appropriate to just throw my current project on the counter amongst the beet mess. The kids Michaelmas dragon is almost done!

Trying to get a head a bit and sew the boys a dragon for Michaelmas *before* the yarn for K's birthday sweater arrives. This has only been on my to do list for maybe 10 years or so!

Well, I am back on a mini knitting hiatus to do some crafting in the kitchen. Our garden is doing well but in major need of constant weeding (our rows are almost overtaken with grass) so I am out there every day hoeing what I can and harvesting anything that might be ready.

Sorry for the late post - our internet has been down since yesterday afternoon. I am currently working on a little surprise gift for my youngest. I got him the book "The Curious Fish" by Elsa Beskow and am knitting him wool socks to match the ones the little boy wears (you can see them in the photo). Of course it is way too hot here right now for wool socks so I am adding a half inch to the length. Hopefully they will fit perfectly this autumn.

I finished and gifted the Padre Pio mitts to our priest for Father's day. They look funny blocking but they came out rather nicely!

I have some scrap fabric from Chasing Windmills that matches Baby F's summertime PJs so I am going to try to sew his goat "White Chocolate" his own pair. Hoping to sue the red and white stripped romper as my pattern.

I am still heavily working in my kitchen as well as on the homestead but I found some time to sneak in a quick project for our favorite priest - some St. Padre Pio mitts.

Sorry about last week everyone! The week just got away from me and I completely forgot to post. A lot of my crafting has been small needed tasks like embroidering letters on the boys' roosters. Actually most of it has been happening in the kitchen, as of late. finished up my ginger bug last week and made some ginger ale with it. Now I am looking for more beneficial recipes for it. Any suggestions?

I finished C's birthday shawl and dress for her birthday! The shawl pattern is called Holden (C picked it out herself) and the dress is the Washi dress pattern. I sewed her the smallest size and changed the neckline as well as added length. The next one I make will have more length added (the extra 2" wasn't enough) and I still want to tweak the neckline a bit more.

And remember these?
They are Katydid eggs!
