on Mother's Day

mother's day "flowers" cards inside k's card flowers teaching k teaching K K's first time bikejoring IMG_9733 cake in the kitchen green and gold horse

Bouquets from the yard, handmade cards, K learning how to bikejor, cake, dinner made by Kevin and the kiddos, leisure time to finish up the test knit, moments with my loves, a counter full of dirty dishes waiting for me in the morning. A full, simple life. Really, what more could I ask for? I understand that I am blessed beyond measure. I believe all mothers are. What an incredible gift and privilege it is to be called Mama.

Happy Mother's day to all of you amazing Mamas.

p.s. - the cake recipe was from Oh She Glows and Marin the Spring Horse pattern is now available on Ravelry.

Wow, Nicole, you are blessed! Love those cards from the girls. And the picture with Kevin is fabulous - you have a great husband!!
What lovely pictures Nicole, you are blessed with a wonderful family. The horse in the last picture is beautiful :)
What a beautiful day with your family! Such a gift!
So many lovely moments. I've been wondering about letting my dogs run with my son, but have been worried that he's too light still. Maybe it is just our dog who is too unpredictable. Did you wear your dog out at all first?

I don't think she was worn down first. Kevin only felt comfortable with K having Nara "Senior" Devi pull her. She is our calmest and oldest dog. Our other ones have too much energy still and would knock her off the bike chasing whistle pigs. :p

Thanks for asking! In the 2nd pic of us, you can see me running with a leash attached to Nara's collar. We were practicing to make sure everyone involved understood how this works. Once K felt comfortable with Nara pulling her solo, I detached the leash and still ran next to them, just up ahead a little so I could be out of the photo. All 4 of our dogs are trained daily with bikejoring. I took our 3 boys out earlier in the morning, and left Nara to ride with K so she's have the energy to pull her for 5.5 miles.

We bought elbow and knee pads about an hour before K's first bikejoring experience, just in case Nara dragged her off her bike chasing a whistle pig or rabbit (we saw both on this ride!). Nara only misbehaved once, and went off the trail until K used both brakes to stop her and remain in control. After that, K asked that I reattach the leash for a bit until she was comfortable again with Nara pulling her off leash. Later in the run, she asked that I remove the leash. It was a great learning experience and fun was had by all. We are already trying to figure out which dog/s to use next with K. She asked for Beowulf in the future, but right now wants to stick with Nara a few more times. I'm working to teach K the bikejor/sled dog commands (gee, haw, on by, whoa, hike, etc., too! Once C and L are older, I'll have them take turns at this. It would be nice to have a cart or dog scooter someday. That's the dream...!
Thanks for such a detailed reply. I'm going to show this to my husband. We used to ride with our dogs a lot (pretty much daily), but really stopped when we had kids. No way I was doing it when I was pregnant...and my husband lost interest doing it alone. We just haven't gone back to it since. Thanks so much for all the tips!
I am so glad Kevin was able to respond with more of the technicalities of it all :) I hope it helped!
Happy Mother's day to you too! (It sounds like it really was). And thank you for keeping this beautiful blog which is an ever so gentle inspiration for me to be a better, more creative and nurturing mama :) The horse knit is lovely, lucky K!

Oh, thank you so much. What an incredibly sweet thing to say <3
What a wonderful Mother's Day. The horse looks fantastic!
Love the picture of your hubby in the floral apron! My husband is definitely unafraid of looking 'domestic' too :) With four daughters and a wife, he just embraces it :)

Thank you, Karen! I hope you have a lovely day!
Now normally one would wear an apron to keep from getting ones clothing spoiled ;o)

Look like you had a very nice one, and yes, you are right, we are all so lucky to be called Mom.
