Oats, Peas, Beans and Barley grow...

After days and days of endless rain and hail, there was a short reprieve. C, Little L and I, experiencing a bit of cabin fever, seized the opportunity and went out on an adventure to find colorful leaves for our usual autumn time craft of preserving leaves with beeswax. It was still gloomy out (hence the dark photographs), and misting rain but that's our typical weather. Autumn is just beginning to grace us with it's presence here in Portland. I so love this time of year. I am trying to take it all in and keep it fresh in my memory. It will be four years before we see trees like this again.

While we were out, I took the chance to snap a few pics of Little L in the latest project that just came off my needles. It's the Barley hat by Tincanknits. What an enjoyable knit. I love the blue colorway of the yarn with his blue eyes, too. Speaking of those eyes of his, I asked him to show me his baby blues and this is what I got:

big eyes!

That's my little chubba-bubba - always the entertainer.

It's not like he needed another hat. I just needed something quick to knit, you know, in between the other eight projects I am working on. I think I may need an intervention...

p.s. I named Little L's hat "Oats, Peas, Beans and Barely grow" after a song from K's first grade class did for circle time:

Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow, Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know How oats, peas, beans, and barley grow?

First the farmer sows his seed, Stands back up and takes his ease,
He stamps his foot and claps his hands, And turns around to view his lands.

Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow, Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know How oats, peas, beans, and barley grow?

Next the farmer waters the seed, Stands back up and takes his ease,
He stamps his foot and claps his hands, And turns around to view his lands.

Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow, Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know How oats, peas, beans, and barley grow?

Next the farmer hoes the weeds, Stands back up and takes his ease,
He stamps his foot and claps his hands, And turns around to view his lands.

Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow, Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know How oats, peas, beans, and barley grow?

Last the farmer harvests his seed, Stands back up and takes his ease,
He stamps his foot and claps his hands, And turns around to view his lands.

Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow, Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know How oats, peas, beans, and barley grow?

Thank you so much!!!!
I love love love his pants! I can't tell, though... are they knitted? Felted? Wool jersey? I need something like those for my almost 2 year old this winter!

Thank you. They were a gift from a friend. They are machine knit wool and then hand embroidered. They feel so warm and thick.
My goodness, what a sweet face your little fella has- and I love his colors!
Just visited for the first time. I just wanted to say as a knitter & homeschooling mom (among other things) I just love this! I'm sure I'll be visiting it often.

They are but by one of those knitting machine. My friend gave them to me.
Cute! My kids like that song too. We love Cedarmont Kids music, look it up on youtube and you may find some of it there.
Love his hat! Looks great in combination with the milo too. So cute.
Envious of your weather & the beautiful trees (we're in Tucson, different story here..!)
I remember when my children learned that song too. Long time ago, my oldest is now 20, yikes. :)
Oh, so cute! Love that outfit and your adorable kiddos.

what a treat! I was JUST humming this song the other day... my parents used to sing it to me when I was little. But I couldn't remember the words! Here they are... thank you!
Don't worry! They have autumn in Idaho. I think you might be pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the state. The Rocky Mountain west is one of the best kept secrets in the US. :)
PS: I just did a Flickr search for "autumn Idaho" and what came up was spectacular! You have nothing to fear. I think what's coming for your family is much more amazing than you imagine.
