Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

I have titled my photographs for today 'the hats in chairs series'! What can I say?! Lighting is hard to come by these days.

After all of that fun but exhausting Christmas crafting I really needed a break. What does one obsessive knitter/crafter do on a break? Why knit something for herself, of course!  I wanted an instant gratification project that would keep my interest so I decided to go with a winter hat. I needed one anyways since my old butterfly hat is looking rather ragged. I chose the Waverly pattern that I picked up for free a month or two ago with a promotion they had going on. It was just the knit I was looking for. It seems to fit well and feels so soft and cozy on my head.I'll have Kevin take some pictures soon. He hasn't been home to do so but hopefully it will work out this weekend. My only complaint is that the yarn I used (the same called for in the pattern) reminds me of Malabrigo worsted so I fear it will pill very quickly.

It felt so delightfully naughty to knit something for myself that I decided I needed to do it again right away. I cast on yet another hat for myself, this time using some leftover madelinetosh yarn (which means it won't pill like crazy -Yay!).

Little L's birthday is right around the corner so I have been working with my ever so lovely friend Jackie at Luna Grey Fiber Arts again to create the perfect birthday sweater (or outfit should I say? wink, wink). Remember how she read my mind when I requested a custom colorway for C's Koala Bear sweater? Well, she's at it again! I can't wait to see Little L's yarn in person. I know it will be just what I envisioned. Speaking of Luna Grey, I have some exciting news to share with you. If you have been wanting to check out some of my favorite yarn for yourself Jackie has a sale going on right now. 13% off all orders through January 13th with coupon code: NewYears13 Also, you might want to check back here later this week for a giveaway, too! Lots of goodness to go around today, huh?!

I wanted to step out of my KCCO post for a moment to say a very humble and heartfelt Thank you to all of you for the support, encouragement and love you shared with me in yesterday's post. I completely admit I was still feeling rather down and out, but just putting it out there to get it out of my head and then having your kindness come though... it really moved me to tears. Happy tears, of course! I am feeling much stronger now. I will cherish your words always!
I left out details on the matter because as much as what was said hurt me, I didn't want to hurt that person back in any way.  I just wanted to get it out there to heal. And my goodness, knowing that some of you have gone through similar situations breaks my heart. Please know that I am here for all  of you, just as you were for me. And remember you are all loved!! Again, thank you!

Hi Nicole,

the blue hat is amazing!
The yarn you use is always a pleasure for my eyes!
Warmly
Heike
I'm glad your making something nice for yourself, sounds like just the cheer up you need. You deserve beautiful things just as much as the rest of your family so don't ever feel bad for looking after yourself as weal! I love both of those hats, gorgeous

I just read your post from yesterday, and am really glad you are feeling better now! It's really no one's job to tell another parent that he or she is a failure in parenting. Who does that?? Is that person a perfect parent everyday I wonder... We all have our good and bad parenting days, and we have to support each other because having kids is not always easy. Your kids seem wonderful, fun, and creative, and to me you seem to be a truly wonderful and present mom. Go you!

Love the colors of your hats. It's fun to make something just for yourself. I hope you have a great week!
The hats are beautiful. I hear you about bad lighting, the pictures on my link up are just horrific. I am going to try and update with better ones later when the sun finally finds its way out.

Glad you are feeling better. Head up Mama, you are among friends here!

I love the color of that first hat. I found that hats I've knit in Malabrigo have lost their shape. It's a shame because the yarn is so soft ;o(

The yarn in that first hat looks divine, Ni. I want to squish it in my hands! :) I'll bet it looks beautiful with your red hair. Good for you! Be naughty more often, my friend.

Gorgeous hat! I think it is always good to make something pretty for yourself now and then :)
I love your blog and your sweet insights about life. Can you tell me where you were able to find that sheepskin chair pad? Thanks much!

Love those hats. Sometimes handknits for yourself are the perfect hyacinth for the soul. I just finished a market bag for myself and am ridiculously pleased with it!
Beautiful hats- I love the Waverly pattern and that shade of blue is gorgeous. Have a great day :)
I have got to figure out how to knit.... Really, I just have to.
Ooh, making something for yourself sounds wonderful, I am going to have to try that some day. ;) Thank you for sharing such an intimate post yesterday, it was healing for others as well as you. :)

Beautiful hats!
I shared a very simple place mat project that I worked on with my five year old daughter. The project was probably more about the process (very fun!) than the product (although that too is cute!).

Great hats, love the colours. Glad you are feeling better :)
gorgeous hat! wow! (and yes, I hate taking wip photos this time of year, since the lighting is so bad inside & I hate going outside to take photos, it''s too cold!)
Beautiful hat! Thanks for linking to the pattern.
You have a beautiful family.
Glad to see you rebounding from that awful comment. (I'm not online everyday, so I didn't see it when you posted.) I do think, though, because you take the time to evaluate the criticism you receive, you can respond honestly when you realize it was so unfair! Our children do not need perfection--they only need to see us trying hard every day. Take care!

Love the hats. They are beautiful. I particularly like the light green color one. Your family is gorgeous. I didn't read the comment, but I can tell you some people like to put others down to make themselves feel big. These people do not need to be acknowledged as it only feeds their egos. Just be good to yourself and family and dismiss people like that.
