Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

034

Still moving slow and steady on Baby L's wheat milo. All I need to do is find a good 15 minutes of guaranteed, uninterrupted time to myself to graft the top and bottom together. Yeah - we'll see when that happens!

You see this beautiful robin's egg blue yarn here? It is destined to become a hat for me. The problem is that I can't decide on a pattern.I know there are many talented knitters reading this...won't you help me? The yarn is Tosh DK and is a skein of 225 yards. I was planning on knitting the Odessa pattern which has been in my queue since I first learned to knit back in Virginia but now I am rather wanting something a bit more fun and detailed... at least I think I do. Odessa isn't fully out of the running just yet, but I would love to see anything you may have to suggest. Please, don't be shy - speak up and let me know.

Here's K's contribution to this week's KCCO. She made this little girl gnome in school yesterday - how cute is that?! She was pretty proud of herself and has since made an army of gnomes at home for her siblings using my scrap yarn. I am pretty sure the instructions for this sweet yarn doll are in one or two of my favorite craft books: The Children's Year: Seasonal Crafts and Clothesor All Year Round, but I didn't get a chance to double check. I found these instructions, too. They are slightly different using a book to wrap the yarn around instead of a small piece of cardboard and seem to make a bigger doll, though.

If you would like to link up and share your current works in progress please leave your link below. It can now be either to your specific blog post or Flickr photo. There are no rules, only that your link is current and something about a craft project (of any kind) you are working on. Don't forget that there is now a KCCO Flickr group for you to share your crafting photos at anytime.

Please remember to link back here so that others who may want to join KCCO can find us.

It's as simple as that. Remember your post can be from any day of the week, it doesn't have to be today. Now please share and inspire us all!

The wheat milo is adorable. I really like the colour :-) And isn't K clever! And very sweet to have made some for her siblings
Love the milo!! When I was about K's age I made a dolly much like that for my sister, it was pink yarn and I used scraps of lace from my mom's scrap bin to make her a kerchief and an apron. :) Okay, for hat ideas, I did a quick ravelry search, and I think that some fun ideas would include "Pasha" (I think you would have enough of the yarn if you omitted the slouch), the "flower bud beanie", "vivonne bay hat", "Lotus hat" (the one by Uptown Purl)---I really want to make this one :) and if you're in the mood for ribbing then that color would be very pretty in "Snowflakes on Mulberries (for dk)" --the tosh versions of that seem to show of the snowflake decreases beautifully! And of course, odessa would be beautiful too! I think I might just have to go find some yarn for a hat now ;)
Oh dear, I had a big comment typed up but it doesn't seem to have posted...let's try again...first I LOVE the milo, it is so so cute! K's dolly reminds me of one I made for my sister when I was about her age...it was pink, and I used lace scraps for a kerchief and an apron! :) For that yummy hat yarn...I think a not-slouchy version of "pasha" could be fun...then the "Vivonne Bay Hat" is very pretty, as is the "Flower Bud Beanie", the tosh versions of "Snowflakes on Mulberries (dk)" are very pretty if you're in the mood for ribbing...and after all of this hat searching I'm really liking the looks of "Lotus Hat" by UptownPurl....I might have to make a hat now :) Happy knitting!!
I have been neither calm nor crafting on. After a week of cranky baby, we're all sick. Whee. I also had a mishap with a wool stuffing order that was not clean as advertised. So I have to wait for a new shipment (from a previously used a trusted company) to arrive. I'd be impatient.. if I weren't busy tending runny nosed kids.

I think your vest looks amazing. I don't envy you the grafting. Stockinette grafting I can do. Garter grafting is just beyond me - I know the mechanics, but I can't ever make it look right.
I love the colour you picked for your hat. I bought some yarn for a hat for myself...emerald green...but it has been in my basket since I bought it in November because I can't pick a pattern either...I think it may end up being a scarf!

I posted twice today...I hope that is all right? I didn't comment the first time because my home computer wouldn't let it go through.
The Milo is turning out quite nice. I really like the wheat pattern, especially in that color.

I love, love, love the Milo. B-e-a-utiful! And K's little gnome is so sweet! How nice of her to make some for her siblings!!
Ni- I accidentally posted the wrong link first... you can delete that first one, if you want!
Thank you so much dear Nicole for providing this link up. I love the colour of your Milo vest.

hmm, I love dragonflies by joji locatell (joji on ravelry). That's what I would make, although in that yarn, anything would be.
May I ask why you chose to graft milo? I don't remember this being part of the pattern when I made it.

If I were looking for a new spring hat in that lovely color I would make this:

Your wheat Milo is stunning - lovely mods!
I absolutely love the Wheat Milo and may I also say I'm partial to the Odessa Hat (because it's one of the few things I've ever made!) Are you planning to add the glass beads? They really make a big difference in my opinion! My Odessa turned out like this:

Choosing is so hard... :) Best of luck!
Ni, I've made Odessa-- long time ago, but it turned out really pretty! I think it would be just the thing for you. :) Make sure to include the beads-- it's an easy enough technique and such a special little touch. You deserve that bit of sparkle! <3

Love the Tosh yarn colour (can't think of any patterns!)! Milo is looking good! What a sweet little doll! I do love KCCO posts soooo much! Thanks for starting them.

I knit the Odessa a few years ago, with small beads, and I just can't wear it! I get the little imprints of the beads on my forehead and they stay there for hours! What about the Jane pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jane-7), or hthe Lina hat (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lina)? I love them both. I plan on knitting the Marina hat (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/marina-6), the Coline, so nice (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/coline) and the Ebba (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ebba). Oooh, so many things to knit, so little time!!!!
I'm loving all of these hat suggestions! Thanks for sharing!
I learned a new craft this week and was excited to share my first project.

Oh that wheat milo is gorgeous! I'm working on a sweater for myself in a similar color. That yarn doll is too sweet, I love the hair!
I love your variation of this milo vest. And such pretty new yarn! I would probably make such a boring hat, I'm no good for advice on that.
K's little doll is so sweet! My girls have been very busy with various handwork projects these past weeks. Oh, and I even finally have a post I can put here! Even though I was linking to Ginny, but I love you both, so I hope you don't mind my sharing...
You should see Chessa with her knitting!
XO
That yarn is a simply beautiful color! I understand your hesitation, I would want to make sure I had the perfect pattern to use such perfect yarn for! Thank you for providing this link up, I love seeing other people's crafting, so inspiring!
That wheat milo is gorgeous! I love it. I'm loving the little gnome too. At the end of this month, my eight year old daughter has a birthday party to attend. I'll believe I'll make the gnome as one of the gifts my daughter gives to the girl.
