Remember that secret birthday project I mentioned last week? The good news is: it's almost done. The bad news is: her birthday is May day (today!) so I will be a bit late (surprise, surprise). Our school has it's annual May Faire this weekend so my new goal is to finish it by then. You can see some rav details here.

Speaking of May Faire, the girls and I are working on a little project together for K's class booth at May Faire this year. Her class is hosting a 'fishing pond'. It sounds really sweet and I can't wait to see it all come together. We need a total of 200 wool felt fish for the booth and a lot of the families have been working diligently to meet that goal. Last I heard, we are about half way to our goal so I am hoping to have our family contribute as many as we can. K is really enjoying all the steps in making them and has even made some on her own. It's a great sewing exercise/lesson, too. Even C could do it.

Out and About : May Faire

I have been thinking a lot lately about the beauty in the places we see every day, but seldom stop to savor. I decided I needed to make myself slow down and enjoy the scenery around us, no longer taking it for granted. To help in this endeavor I am photographing our usual times out and about, as well as places we have never been. This way I can fully soak it all in, as well as have these moments to look back at. I know we would all love to see the beauty that surrounds you in your everyday life.



All right, all right, I am semi-cheating on this Out and About post with the May Faire pics I meant to post last Friday. I admit my guilt, and now feel better!

Last weekend was our school's annual May Faire celebration and you can bet we were there with bells on - literally, well at least the girls were, thanks to their sweet friend who made ankle bells for them.

Out and About : May Faire

Our school held it's annual May Faire celebration on Saturday and we spent the entire day there. It was a day filled with may pole dancing, some goat love, activities and games, a circus put on by some of our students, yummy food, and so much more! A joyous time for sure with endless giggles and fun. I do have to admit we were exhausted by the end of it. (Kevin and I weren't exactly thinking clearly when we signed up for our volunteer shifts at our class' fishing booth - I worked the opening shift and he worked the closing.)

We finished our fish just in time for the booth, but I do wish we were able to make more. Our class almost made our goal with a total of 150 fish in the end. Would you believe that still wasn't enough though? Our booth was such a hit that we ran out of fish about half way through May Faire. Volunteers ended up frantically cutting out fish and sewing bead eyes on to them at the same time the children were fishing for them. Pretty crazy!
It's quite possible that I had too much fun inside the fishing hole attaching the fish to the fishing poles with a friend. I declared that next year we needed to have a felt shark fin on a stick to swim around the hole. Think they'll do that, even if it's just for my own amusement?

P.s - I was happy to find another use for their Santa Lucia dresses. It's still chilly enough here that flannel is appropriate.
