Crafting on

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Ever since school ended I have barely had a moment to pick up my knitting thanks to the never ending painting projects. They had piled up through the school year (not having a garage or basement is partially to blame as well) and now I want to paint all the things. This is the kids' picnic table they helped me build a few years ago (You can see them building it here). After over a year in storage and lots of use, it is in need of a coat of paint (or sanding and stain but I just don't have the patience right now). I hope to have it finished by Fourth of July so we can use it in our festivities!

Has anyone had any luck purchasing children's picnic table sized umbrellas? I have done search after search online and I can't find any. The one that came with this picnic table broke due to the crazy Idaho winds and I haven't replaced it since.

For his play kitchen

Those curls!!!

Baby F's play kitchen mat from Patchwork Style is done and currently in use. I am laughing at these pictures because, as you know, I prefer to have the children's play kitchen in my kitchen so they can pretend cook right along side of me. Obviously it is not in the kitchen above. The kitchen in this house is so incredibly dark that we have to turn lights on even on the brightest days of summer to be able to cook. Not the best place for taking pictures but hopefully some day soon we'll have our own house and kitchen again so we can paint, fix things up and make it all our own. *fingers crossed* In the meantime at least Baby F's mat brings a smile to me face and his, too!

Just another sweet kit from Stitch and Story. This time it is a woodlands bunny hat. More trials with crochet. Let's see if I can do better with my tension on this one.

I can't remember if I shared these desks on here or if it was only Instagram but you might remember these photos from last summer. We found these school desks for sale and I couldn't pass them up. I had been looking for something like them for years. The only problem was the intense paint. You can see the gorgeous dark wood underneath it on the green one. I was hoping to strip the paint off and bring back their natural beauty. Well, almost a year later and hours of trying to strip just one chair I have given up. That green paint penetrated layers of wood making it impossible to strip all the way. I was able to sand the tabletop part down enough so that I can keep that natural wood but the chair itself is getting a coat of white paint right after I finish typing this. Not what I originally imagined but I think it will look good nonetheless.

Homeschooling journey

THIS. This is what makes it all worth it. If you've followed my blog since the beginning (or close to it) you know our long, rather complicated schooling journey. From a Waldorf school we loved to reluctant homeschoolers due to wanting a Waldorf education but moving a state away from said Waldorf school. I struggled immensely with schooling my oldest - her strong-will coupled with my self-doubt was a recipe for disaster. There were many days I felt like throwing in the towel and calling the nearest public school but something always held me back. We added two more children to our schooling lessons (and a crazy baby/toddler that wants all attention on him), moved two times more to two different states and somehow our homeschooling carried on. Dare I say we actually even started liking it? There are still days that make me want to throw in the towel and I will probably never be that homeschooling mother that gushes about how easy and perfect homeschooling is, but I am so very thankful that I get to spend every hour of every day with all my children. As we all know, time is fleeting and before I know it my children will be grown and off on their own. I don't want to miss a moment with them due to fears and self-doubt.

I came on here just to share this beautiful beeswax sculpture of the Ingalls family that C presented to me on the last day of school (we incorporated Playful Pioneers into our school year) along with a handmade card from K that made me cry. Instead I ended up typing a novel! Anyways, mamas if you struggle with schooling just know it gets better!! I can vouch for that! You got this!!

Sorry guys but this is another finished project instead of a WIP. I actually haven't had the time to work on anything with the garden in full swing and the end of the school year. This is a lavender rice pillow for L (like the one I made for C).
