Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

crafting on Kevin and our three oldest went to Portland last week to pick up Purple Grandma from the airport. They had to spend the day there waiting for her plane so they made a few stops. One of those stops was my favorite bee supply store. They came home with this box of beeswax candle making supplies for me. Just what we needed now that Autumn is here and the gray clouds are rolling back in.

This post is more of what I recently finished instead of what I am working on. I couldn't get it together enough to snap a photo of my current WIP - my day has been spent cooking and baking for K's upcoming birthday. I love all the prep that goes on around here the day before birthdays.

Anyway, back to the photos. Baby F needed a bag to corral his toys that stay in the van. Side note - He is my first baby that has needed special car toys to keep him happy for car rides. We even *gulp* had to pick up some plastic, flashy, noisy toys from our local Goodwill. I sewed him a simple drawstring bag with his leftover birthday fabric. C added the fun pompoms to the strings. I love her little touch to this bag. I actually tasked her to make me some more pom poms for a pair of Baby F's longies. Pompom all the things!! We recently bought a pompom maker and C has gone crazy with it (maybe I have, too). I think our little house will soon be filled with pompoms (envision the Trouble with Tribbles).

More baby knits in the works! I love the mellowshorts I knit for Baby F so much that I decided my friend's new baby boy needed a pair as well.

Solace (and help for baby Imogen)

smoke smoke smoke mist and smoke play play Are you looking Mama? It is time for... sand/mud bathing a sand/mud bath. proud of himself Quite proud of himself. ocean forestfire

I am sure you have seen the forest fire destroying a large portion of our favorite Oregon places on the news. It blows my mind and saddens my heart to see so much destruction. Even here on the coast the smoke has covered the sun for days, casting an eerie light on everything. Praying for more rain to help us out!

prayers A compassionate, loving mama that I know is pregnant with a baby girl. I say I know her, but really we have never met in person. She is someone that I used to chat with frequently back when I first started blogging. I haven't been in contact with her in quite awhile but reconnected when I heard the news of her baby. The doctors have told her from very early on in her pregnancy that the baby girl would not make it once she was outside of the womb. Further testing has shown this to be true. I strongly believe in misdiagnoses as well as miracles but there is a big chance this mama will only get to hold her angel baby for a short while. I am on the opposite coast wanting to do something, ANYTHING to help both mother and baby. I felt utterly helpless but then I decided something feasible that I could so would be to knit something to wrap them in. So they feel love surrounding them. I thought this might be beautiful so this mama knows that her baby's life is cherished and celebrated but also something for her to wrap herself in to comfort her through such a painful time. A prayer shawl seemed just the thing. I chose the yarn very carefully. I remember this mama loving brighter colors and this yarn has been in my stash since C was tiny, hand spun by one of the sweetest mamas I know. I have been hanging on to it myself because I love it so much and was hoping to use it for my own baby girl someday...but this is so much of an important reason to gift it. I hope this small gesture brings some solace and covers them both with my love.

Please friends, I ask that you join me in praying (and sending love) for these two beautiful souls and continue the prayers for the upcoming weeks as baby's due date (full term) draws near. She also has a Go Fund Me page set up to help out with funeral expenses among other things. If you feel so inclined to help out in that way, I know it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

ETA: They are also in the path or Hurricane Irma which may make baby arrive sooner!

I fought the yarn and the yarn won. My latest game of yarn chicken didn't work out so well. This sweet little Mimi Pixiehat that I am knitting for a friend's baby is so close to finished. Alas, I have to wait on another skein of yarn to arrive just to knit the other i-cord strap. Thankfully I am knitting this to fit her sweet baby girl in the late autumn/winter time so she'll still have plenty of time to wear it.

Poor guy. getting his hair wet wanting big sister Wanting his big sister IMG_2725 IMG_2753 Blackberry snacks picked by K

When you combine Labor Day weekend with hot weather you get two thing - endless traffic and crowded beaches. So when it got hot today instead of escaping to the beach as we usually do, we decided to something a little different. We packed bathing suits and went to the Salmon River instead. The part of the river that is close to our house is rather peaceful with water shallow enough for Baby F but still deep enough in spots for my older children. There are endless amounts of trees to provide shade and, at the moment, plentiful blackberries to snack on. It really can't get much more perfect. I feel very fortunate to have such a spot nearby.  I have often imagined such a place for my children to play through the years.
