Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.
crafting on When your 11 1/2 year old proclaims that she only wants to wear dresses made by her Mama from now on, you stop everything to accommodate, even moving prep and painting over your chalk wall. Okay well, maybe not stop completely, but at least try your best to find time to sew when you can. I am so glad the mover haven't come yet and that I was able to grab some of my fabric to set aside for at least four dresses for her. I don't know how much longer she'll want clothing made by me so I am going to take advantage of this while I can!

What are you working on? Happy creating!

One Week

school with Daddy cleaning block crayons hiding loves his sister dressed by big sister wee envelope wee envelope wee envelope yummy snow (and rock) *random photos from the past few months really having absolutely nothing to do with this post*

As of today we are one week away from our move back to Oregon. It is crazy to think how close it is and really just how quickly time has flown by here in Idaho. In my usual fashion, I waited until the end of our time here to find incredible friends and church community. At least we will only be a state away. I have hopes of visiting in the future and inviting friends out our way, too. Who wouldn't want to come see the ocean (and maybe us, too)?

We are still sorting through our belongings. I am not decluttering as much as I wanted to a I simply ran out of time. I suppose I'll be doing that once we get to our final destination in Oregon. In the meantime I am trying to figure out what the six of us will need for the next few months (up to a year), while trying to keep it very simple (since the temporary home we are moving into is one bedroom and 700 square feet). The movers come early this week for our belongings going into storage so we'll be living out of boxes after that.

Forgive my absentmindedness but with everything going on I can't remember what I have posted here and what I have posted over on Instagram. I am hoping I do not repeat myself! Have I mentioned that the temporary home we are moving to in Oregon is not near Portland (where we moved from)? It is instead down south a bit and right on the coast. Kevin and the children are calling our place The Little House on the Big Coast. We'll be near the college Kevin is attending (wolf biology!). We are all looking forward to many days spent at the ocean. Little L already has plans to find sharks there.

What an adventure we have in store!

p.s. - Baby F's sweater is the Wee Envelope. I love, love, love it but alas it came out too snug. I even went up a size as well as needle size. He got to wear it for about a week.

Working on a little something fun for my boys. Can you take a guess at what it may be by the colors of wool felt?

Triduum

cute baby at a messy table huh? Easter gifts cuddles cuddles St. Finnian!!! St. Finnian!

Our days leading up to Easter were full of chaos with a house inspection on Good Friday, and a car accident on Holy Saturday (We are all okay!). Thankfully Easter day was slow and joyful (even if we did have to rush to church to try to get in a last minute confession). We even enjoyed our Easter dinner on a blanket, outside in the fresh springtime air. I live for today and am alive because of this day.

Wishing you all a blessed Easter!

p.s. - Sorry not too many Easter photos this year.
p.p.s - I have a feeling the children and I will be reading this book quite a lot in the upcoming weeks.

Baby gift number two is off the needles and gifted. Another little pixie/gnome hat of my own design. I am really enjoying knitting these. I just need to get the sizing down.

On a side note - I apologize but my photos are probably going to be less and less creative as we pack the house up.

Hello there!

bday5 bday bday2
bday3
bday6 IMG_7415 6th birthday bday4 So apparently this moving madness has me falling far behind on pretty much everything. I mean good grief, I still have photos from our snowy winter to share! But I thought it best to share some moments from L's birthday (in February *gulp*), especially with C's birthday just around the corner.

My sweet boy is so full of joy and just such a lover of life. You can't help but smile when you are with him. He is my little talker. I can pretty much always count on him to be my shadow following me around as I do my daily chores in the house, chatting about this and that all the while. At six, he is really starting to become a little gentleman while at the same time a bit more...well, boy. He has the energy to run to the moon and back at home but is so quiet and reserved when we are out and about. Sharks are still the best thing ever to him but now trains are becoming a new second favorite. He continues to love to live in his pajamas all day, every day and wishes all clothing was as comfy as them.

We spent his birthday at home playing with trains and just enjoying time as a family. We always let the birthday child chose their meals for the day and L's food involved a lot of seaweed (that is what vegetarian sharks eat - just ask L!), a vegan mac and cheese lunch and then grilling out for dinner - grilled pickles being the favorite.

Before his birthday he was begging me to do "real homeschooling" with him. The Waldorf kindergarten rhythm just wasn't cutting it any longer. As a birthday present Kevin and I bought him these alphabet, number and blank line chalkboards from Chalk Full Of Design. They were just the thing he was looking for. I also bought a box of standard white chalk for him to use with the boards. I thought about chalk markers but then decided against it. I haven't had the best of luck with them in the past (dry out quickly, drip ink everywhere, and just difficult to use) and I didn't want them to frustrate L. Well, that was until I discovered Chalkola chalk markers. I decided to give them a try after reading such good reviews of them and boy am I glad I did! They don't have any of the issues the chalk markers in the past had are are really smooth and clean to write with. They are not only perfect for me to use (I like to write my meal plans on a slate) but great for children, too. As you can see below, L really likes all the color options he has. They seem to inspire him to practice his writing more.
