Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.
crafting on When your 11 1/2 year old proclaims that she only wants to wear dresses made by her Mama from now on, you stop everything to accommodate, even moving prep and painting over your chalk wall. Okay well, maybe not stop completely, but at least try your best to find time to sew when you can. I am so glad the mover haven't come yet and that I was able to grab some of my fabric to set aside for at least four dresses for her. I don't know how much longer she'll want clothing made by me so I am going to take advantage of this while I can!

What are you working on? Happy creating!

Oh, your kids asking for something made by you... That's a crafter's dream come true, isn't it?
Oh I would happily drop everthing to make something for her - it's a crafty mama's dream come true. Having said that, my six year old who is the size of a ten year old's one true love turned out to be a cardigan made by mama from 4ply yarn on teeny tiny needles and I am certain that next time I will be encouraging her towards the aran patterns!!
Oh how incredibly sweet!!
It's so sweet when your children especially as they get older ask you to make something for them, enjoy. I love the geranium dress, just waiting to get to the fabric shop so I can make my youngest one one
I love that fabric! So lovely to have your daughter asking for handmade dresses. Do you make them all at the same time, or one by one?

I usually make them all at once but I am making sure this fits first and then I will make the rest (assuming it does!).
That is lovely to hear that your eldest still wants dresses made by her mama - how can a mama resist! And we never know how long this will last at this age. Enjoy!
I am just the same- and my 11 1/2 yo girl is the same- and I have done this pattern for her just recently- the age 12- I did the bodice three times before accepting the size 12 is not going to fit her- even after I played about with increasing the pattern on the printer scale control :-( the dress is wide but somehow not right and I am not at all skilled in seamstressing - she is sad and dislikes the clothes available for her age here (uk) I may need to buy the adult pattern I guess... (the darts scare me 8-0 teehee) I am tall (5'11) and she is gaining on me fast. Does it fit your lovely as it is or did you tweak it? Are you tall women? You always appear quite willowy in your pics but it's hard to tell... can't wait to see the outcome.

Kate - i fell behind on it but am hoping to finish it up this week. I'll let you know how it goes. I am a bit worried about the bodice myself..entering the pre-teen years and all have brought about sizing changes *ahem* I did increase the bodice length but I suppose I should have done the width. We'll see what happens. Thank you for the willowy comment! <3 I am only 5'7" but my K is almost as tall as me already!
