shenanigans

who me?! no! Little L discovered a new trick tonight - opening the front door and running outside. This Mama has had too many heart attacks this evening to do a proper post so I will be joining that little rascal of mine, who is deep in slumber, in just a minute. I need to be well rested so I can make sure I wake up before him just in case he decides to carry on with the shenanigans tomorrow. I think we'll be making a trip to the store for a lock to put on the door. In the meantime please say a little prayer for us!

Thanks! It's up and working so far!
Oh Nicole! I am soooo sorry! We had that exact same problem with one of our older boys when he was a toddler. We found that the chain kind of locks placed very high up on the doors helped prevent escapes. We had to put ours high enough up on the door that he was not able to reach them even when he pushed a dining room chair over to the door to stand on. Those kind of locks are apparently worthless for actually deterring criminals, but they do work well for the preschool set!

Our little boy actually got bumped by a car that started pulling out of it's driveway at just under a year old (that was the first time he managed to open the door by himself!!!) He was knocked unconscious, and we rushed to the emergency room. All kinds of tests where run on him, and they decided that there were no serious injuries at all, and sent us home. I didn't put him down until my husband got back from the hardware store with new locks the very next morning! The baby really was fine the next day and has never shown any signs of being hurt, but I was diagnosed with PTSD and still have terrible nightmares because of it. Hurry and get those locks!
P.S. praying for safety for little L and your peace :-)

Thank you for the prayers! Oh my goodness, I can not imagine the fear and worry you went through with your son <3 <3 I can see how that would bring about PTSD. I am so sorry! I wish I could give you a big hug right now!!
We had the same problem with our little boys - we put a high lock on the top of the door - where they couldn't reach. Also, we put a bells on the door so that it would jingle if opened. That helped, too. But, it is a terrible fright to find the back door open and a missing child. It happens to the best of moms!

I love the bells idea! We have door chimes but I have yet to unpack them.
Oh dear, poor you. It's one of my nightmares. We live in a small village but next to a busy road and the front door opens right onto the narrow pavement. We always keep the door locked. It must be quite disconcerting to visitors when we lock them in as soon as they have entered the house, but we really don't dare keep the door unlocked in case boy #3 decides to take a walk...

Ha, I will be doing the same thing now so I am sure my visitors will be feeling the same. Whatever it takes to keep out little ones safe!
Just noticed something on his car seat I thought I would let you know; if he is forward-facing, the straps need to be either at shoulder height or one notch higher, never lower then the shoulder. Hope he stops running out of the house!

oh yes, indeed! Thank you. Those pics were actually from May (they were the only ones I could find!) when we had just turned his car seat around and hadn't made adjustments yet. I am glad you pointed that out though!
This is one of those scary phases! I know you'll find the perfect tool for keeping him safe.

It is, indeed! My girls never did anything like this so I was very unprepared.
I hope you can fix this today.
