Daylight savings time has been kicking my butt. I can't seem to fall asleep before 1:00 am and have been sleeping in until 8:30-9:00. I appear to continuously wake up on the wrong side of the bed - and the whole family has noticed. My cranky mood has rubbed off on them, too. Not a good thing, for sure! Today K decided to wake me up with a smoothie she concocted herself complete with recipe (aptly named made by children smoothie.) She tells me that the best way to start the day is with a green smoothie, otherwise we all end up like Eeyore. I am not sure if it was due to her smoothie or analogy, but I instantly felt happier.

In tribute to the girl who never ceases to amaze me, please allow me to share with you her beloved Christmas gift - the little house shawl.  But please do forgive the pictures, like I said DST has been throwing me way off in every way possible. This shawl has become part of her daily wardrobe. She wears it around the house and whenever we go out. Occasionally a baby doll or kitty of ours gets wrapped in it, too. To her it is the perfect accessory for children, dolls and cats alike. I can't argue with her, I think it's pretty great myself. It stays on her nicely thanks to the beautiful hand carved shawl pin made by Wooly Moss Roots. I was telling Taryn how we needed a shawl pin but I wasn't finding anything I really loved and that was safe enough for K to wear. Then she showed me the ones her husband Jeff had just made and they were exactly what we were looking for! I think I might need to eventually get one for myself and my Multnomah Falls shawl, although C has stolen that shawl on me. Maybe I need to knit her her own shall, as well. The list just keeps on growing!

p.s. - I will go into more details later but I would love to know your favorite place to buy organic seeds from. Specifically (but not limited to) kale, herbs, tomatoes, and flowers of every kind. Thanks in advance!

I get seeds from Turtle Tree Seed (http://www.turtletreeseed.org). They are biodynamic and harvested/packaged by the lovely folks of a Camphill Village in Copake, NY.

johnny's selected seeds has good varieties for our cold, new england climate and might be good for your climate too. plus their website has amazing grower's guides and interactive tools. They do a great job with descriptions _ organic, non gmo, pelleted, containers, etc..

What a sweet girl! You are a blessed Momma-- but I think you knew that already. :-)

How lovely when a child adores your handknits. My oldest cherished her quilt I made her, my youngest cherished someone else's quilt they made her. LOL! But the youngest cherished a bunny I made from a square of cheap acrylic yarn. Go figure. The shawl is lovely.

What a terrific angel shadow! How blessed you are to have a sweet girl make a nutritious drink for you. I've heard that St. Clare Heirloom Seeds is a great place. http://www.stclareseeds.com/

I always rather liked Eeyore, maybe because I could often relate? ;) Perhaps I should try a green smoothie myself sometime :D

Gorgeous! My girls would love a Little House shawl. I really like yours (I should say K's), such a great colour and lovely work! This shawl is definitely on my list of projects to knit, but I think that like you, I might have to knit more than one… The pin is perfect. I would also love to see your finished Multnomah shawl… And green smoothies are so yummy!

Gorgeous shawl, Nicole! I've had that pattern in my queue for a long time now but haven't found the perfect yarn for it yet. That colour looks lovely on K.
I am also planning on ordering seeds very soon so these comments will also be of great help to me- thanks all!

Absolutely lovely shawl and that pin is WOW!!! I placed my first order with Wooly Moss Roots recently and I can't wait to order more of their lovely work. *swoon!*

I share in the suggestions already given for Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds - do check out their magazine, Heirloom Gardener, as well. I subscribe to it and it's a very happy mail day for me when a new issue arrives. :) I also order from Peaceful Valley (http://www.groworganic.com) and can attest to excellent customer service from them. I ordered seeds in 2012 prior to our move from Japan and had them shipped to my mom's house. Some corn was backordered and they emailed while I was traveling to our TX duty station to tell me they were in. I asked if it would be possible to have the address changed to my new one, instead of my mom mailing them to me, and they got it handled right away. My third seed company is Renee's Garden (http://reneesgarden.com/) - they don't have quite as large a selection as the other two, but they are great seeds - I've grown from their items up and down the West Coast, overseas, and here, so a wide variety of climates and the seeds were always viable. (The time I killed my seedlings with chlorinated water during a system flush the water company did is totally my fault, not their seeds'. LOL)

Wow, that Shawl is beautiful...and it gives me a better idea of how the pins do their jobs.. Taryn'll want to do a shawl like that I'll bet, it's just too cute.

Earthly Delights sells local, Idaho seeds collected from plants that grow well in our desert climate. You can purchase them from their web site or at northend organic nursery or Edwards Greenhouse.

Love the shawl...exact pattern I am working on for a promise of a shawl I made to my daughter on her birthday. Thanks for the idea for the shawl pin. I was wondering where I should get one for her.

Such a sweet shawl and such a sweet little lovable darling girl! I love that she is so fond of her shawl and actually wears it -- sometimes the projects I knit are more appealing in theory than in reality -- if you know what I mean 😉.
Blessings,
G

I'm in the same boat!! I mean, I haven't been cranky ha ha, but the daylight savings time, wow. It's amazing how pushing the clock up one hour has completely rocked my world! We are on spring break this week too, so there's nothing marking certain times of the day, like taking children to school, picking them up, dance and baseball classes etc. I'm thinking it's late afternoon only to find that it's past 6pm and I have no dinner started!! And I haven't been able to get to bed before 1am either....ugh!

Aww isn't she sweet? Sometimes it does take our kids to remind us to be happy! I know it happens way more often in my house than I want to admit. Daylight savings always screws with everyone in my house too. Hope it settles for you soon.

I love the shawl you made for her. So special. The "angel wings" photo is darling too.
