I choose happiness

Beowulf and Ozi Nara and Ozi
Puppy playdate at our house with Ozi, a male German Shepherd that Kevin is pet sitting for one of his co-workers. You can see the dog fur tumbleweeds blowing in our yard from Beowulf. He is blowing his winter coat. The last photo of Ozi with Nara had us in fits of giggles. If you knew Nara, you would understand. Her bark is much worse than her bite! The dogs all had a blast.

Super late night sewing for Kevin

Yep, it's another installment of photographs of past knits. Sorry! If it's any consolation, I think I only have one more thing to photograph. I couldn't help myself, Little L was enjoying some warmer weather outside in what is quite possibly one of my favorite knits. Such a sweet moment. The sweater is called the Livingston and it was his Christmas gift. I am smitten with the seagulls on it and so is little L. He actually calls it his seagull sweater. As usual, I knit it a size up so it's quite roomy on him at the moment, but that just means more months of Jonathan Livingston Seagull LOVE.

Puppy playdates, staying up late working on a sewing project with Kevin, playing with Little L out in the fresh air. Ah yes, that is how I want to remember this weekend. I am making a deliberate choice to focus on these little things that bring a smile to my face and to try to forget learn from, and move on from the struggles with a child of mine who may be at the beginning of the nine year change. Because really, if I choose to focus and put emphasis on the negative, it would be easy to fall into a downward spiral of sadness, doubt and self pity. Instead, I choose the path of happiness and love, taking each thing in stride and trying to remember to see the bigger picture. Some moments may be harder than others but I am striving, and that's what matters.

Beautiful sweater and pictures, Nicole!
I am also curious how the Little House Shawl looks on your K!

Thank you! Yes, that is my last past knit to photograph. Maybe it will clear up this week so I can do so. K wears it ALL the time!
beautiful sweater and I love his photo smile :)

Thank you!. He is such a goof, isn't he?
Love those puppy photos. The two dogs we had years ago used to play so rough we always wondered what the neighbors thought of us. We have lots of hilarious photos and videos of them just like the one above, looking so scary. :)

thank you, Jackie <3 He was being a bit cheeky, that rascal!
I love that sweater, your son looks so handsome in it! I think my son may need one as well...adding to the queue, guess I need to go yarn shopping ;)

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all knit as fast as we add on to our queue!
interesting that you bring up the 9 year change. my husband and i were just talking about how challenging the 9/10 year(s) are. since we have done it 3 other times and now have one right in the middle of it, i was just thinking... is it always this hard?? and YES it is. but they come out on the other side so wonderfully. (or at least so far they have. haha) so many hugs and YES focus on the good stuff. <3

Thank you so much for saying that. I have fears of my children being as rebellious as I was... ahem.
Nicole,
I'm so happy to see the finished sweater on Little L! The pictures of him are adorable, as always. I really like the way the warm hemlock buttons look with the color of the light grey yarn, really pretty together. :)

Love to you,
Taryn

Your buttons MAKE the sweater, as usual!!! XOXO
I don't think there is nothing to apologize about for showing us your fabulous knits, love the pattern and your cute boy!

Oh, Nicole, I love love this sweater. You always choose the exact same colours I would myself. And the nine year change. My oldest is quickly approaching 8.5 years and it has begun. Some moments, I force myself to step back and observe the tumult that he is struggling with ~ it is quite interesting as my son has always been so easy-going and happy-go-lucky. I must go and search out some more reading about this because there are other moments when I get plenty overwhelmed and worry that I am not being there enough to support him.

Oh Jules - YES! That is exactly how I feel. I am in search of books right now, too and hoping to get advice from our former teacher. K is 8.5 now, too.

Absolutely love that beautiful sweater and that little guy of yours is so handsome. Glad that you seem to be adjusting to life in Idaho...I know it can be terribly difficult to leave a place that you love. Luckily all of my moves have been choices that we have made...speaking of which we are seriously considering moving to Oregon or California, but leaning more towards Oregon, around 3 to 4 years from now. Before our daughter starts high school, oh my. We are thinking Portland area....any recommendations on where we should look? It would be nice to have a bit of land, but I know that may not be possible living near a big city.

oh boy - Oregon or Cali?! I have had the pleasure of living in each of those places and am smitten with both. Yes, there much any land to be found near Portland but I know just outside it there is. Let me check with Kevin about the areas we used to look at and get back to you (I have forgotten their names now!)
