Some days the best thing to do is to just throw in the towel and escape to the woods. That seems to happen quite often in our home, especially once the weather starts turning and winter is near. Today was one of those days. I should have followed my gut and got us all outside in the fresh air but I tried to ignore my frustrations and keep on going. This led to a meltdown (of my own!), a husband who's accomplishment was ignored (after almost 3 years in this house - he finished organizing the garage so that our van could be in it), and a kitchen covered in sticky maple syrup. (an incident that involved Little L and a full bottle of maple syrup...I'll spare you the details) Every mole hill turned into a mountain and I became overwhelmed at every little thing brought my way. I mean, I couldn't even think about picking up the phone to return calls without my head spinning. I just couldn't snap out of it and I have no idea way. Well, I suppose sleep might have something to do with it. Little L has been going to bed at his usual 6:30 bedtime but he then wakes back up when I come to bed and stays awake until about 5 - 6 in the morning. So I have been getting about 3 hours of sleep for the past couple of weeks. It wasn't a bother at first but now I can see it is taking it's toll on me.

I sat down at my computer again feeling overwhelmed as I thought about some work I needed to do but then I found these pictures from a semi-recent homeschooling adventure day. They made me stop in my tracks. What on earth could be so upsetting that would have me forget about the gift of being alive? I am so grateful to have come across these. I needed the reminder to slooooooow down and remember just how beautiful everyday life is.  But sleep, that sure would do me some good, too! p.s - This song popped into my head as I was typing this up, hence the post title.

I love the fall atmosphere of those pictures!
And I also love what Little L is wearing, since I'm also expecting a little boy - may I ask where you got it?
Thank you! His little outfit was bought at the Hanna Andersson outlet back when I was pregnant with him (if I remember right it was a nice $5 score). I think they make new ones each year though so I bet their website has this years edition. HTH and congrats!!
oh wowzers those photos are amazing! lovely fall colors and even lovelier children, thanks for sharing! bisous, maria

Thank you so much!! That motivates me even more to get out there and photograph :)
Hi, I am a new reader and have been enjoying your wise words, pictures and craft ideas! Just wanted to say how much your post resonated with me (also a busy mama of 3) and how on one of those days, getting out and breathing in nature is the best! We are all a bit sleep deprived in here too (not the best combination). Hope your tomorrow is brighter and you start to get more sleep!

Hi Lou! Thank you for visiting this space of mine and for your kind comment. I am so happy to hear that my words meant soemthing to you. I do get nervous sometimes when my posts aren't as upbeat ;)
don't we all have terrible days where everything is a challenge - so true! your honesty is much appreciated. You are right, sometimes the best medicine is to just, "Call the whole thing off" and head outside for nature therapy. what a great reminder that the most simple snapshots of life can be a great nugget of gratitude if we choose to see them.

Thank you, Sondra. Sometimes I get nervous posting my raw emotions and battles but comments like yours make me realize it's all ok!
Wow what great pictures! Btw can you tell me what kind of van you guys have? We are looking to get a van after Christmas and we aren't sure which brand to buy? Do you like the brand you have? Thanks Kate

We bought a Toyota Sienna back in 2008 and still love it. It was the only one that could fit 8 people and had other options we were looking for. We recently tried out a Dodge caravan after our van was in an accident but boy were we thankful to get our van back! The Dodge couldn't handle all the mountain driving we have to do - it made me crazy!
What a beautiful day. Don't you love the reminders we get when we need them most? God just letting us know he is looking out for us.
Hope you are able to get more sleep. It is so important!

I couldn't agree more!!
I love the picture of C upside down on the leaves. So darling. She is a beautiful girl.

Thank you! She is my silly little Kamikaze! I love her antics.
Will pray for you...I'm suffering from bouts of insomnia lately, and feel brain-dead by early afternoon. You may have to start putting L to bed a bit later if he keeps this up. Seems that there is always one child who will come along and mess up the nice little routine you have going!

Ha,ha. So true. I could barely get out of bed this morning. I have class tonight so Kevin is on Little L duty.
Newer reader to your post - and I love your ideas, photos and words. Thank you for sharing- even on these sleep deprived days! Just looking at the beautiful photos must mean evidence of God - so He will help us all get through our sometimes challenging days! Enjoy those beautiful children!

I agree!! Thank you Lori. I am so glad you are visiting this space of mine.
Oh - this was just the *perfect* post for me to read this morning!
Not enough sleep and overwhelmed by 'to do' lists have been the ongoing theme to my days just recently - and you're right, sometimes it is so hard to just put all of that aside and enjoy, and celebrate, and put it all in perspective.
