KCCO - needlefelting

021

KCCO - Lina still going strong

Monday was our 'day in' so the girls and I decided to needlefelt some scenes while Baby L took his nap. Needlefelting is one of those things where I need to be fully aware and present at all times, so the baby's nap time is a good time for it. Call me crazy but the idea of trying to watch my older ones stab wool repeatedly with a very sharp needle while a baby is near seems a bit daunting to me.

Both of my girls are very into the fourth of July right now so their felting was very red, white and blue inspired. Well, C's started out that way but then she just had fun adding layers on top of layers of wool to hers. K worked on a flag and plans on sewing beads on it today. She is pretty much an experienced needlefelter by now, as she has been doing it for so many years. C, on the other hand, has just begun. After she broke three needles in a row (on purpose) today we decided that perhaps she should stick with wet felting a little while longer. We'll revisit needlefelting with her again maybe this fall.

I am still working on my hat. Does that sound as silly to you as it does to me? I do have an excuse for taking so long on it. I had it nearly completed and decided to try it on. When I did it was much too big/deep for my head. I went back to look at fellow ravelers notes and sure enough that was an issue for quite a few of them, too. So I ripped it back until after my fourth set of cables and started decreasing there instead of at the fifth set of cables as the pattern states. I am hoping to finish it up before this post goes up.

Exciting mail that my family and I have been on pins and needles over for many months arrived today! I can't wait to share more about it with all of you.

What are you working on? I can't wait to see. Keep the goodness going - photo notecards, knitted sleepy soaker, beeswax lanters, oh my! Loved everything last week everyone and now my crafting list is growing even more thanks to you :)
Happy creating!

Thanks for 'having' me Nicole, it's my first time. I'm not sure if essential oil blending falls under craft? I'm happy to be here. I agree on the baby needle stabbing issue - not so conducive to a relaxing afternoon. And that lovely minty yarn of your hat. I would want the knitting to go on forever with that beautiful colour. Take precious care, Katie x

Thanks for joining us Katie and of course that falls under craft! Sounds heavenly to me.
I always love seeing the wonderful things you're doing with the kids. The concentration on those little faces is adorable. How nice to be able to share such fun activities. Thanks for reminding us all to KCCO! Have a wonderful day.
We've been needle and wet felting too. I tend to limit the children to wet felting, but I really should let them experiment with needle felting too. K's flag is beautiful. I think beads will be perfect.
Daunting indeed, this is precisely why we haven't done any needle felting at all since Naia was born. She's not much of a napper so that particular craft will have to be tabled for a bit.

Oh yes, I would do the same thing!
Nicole, I really love the crafting that you and your girls do. You give me faith that Eben will one day really like to sit down and felt with me. Can't wait to see the surprise you are hinting at in your mail.

XOXO, Jules

Thank you Jules <3 It will happen. I think kids and felting are just meant to be :)
I don't even sew now that the baby (9 months) is crawling around. Not even when they are asleep. Too many sharp objects too clean up!
I love the flag that your daughter is needle felting, she is doing such a wonderful job! My daughter wants to learn how to needle felt so I am thinking about getting one of those starter kits for her so that she can give it a try. :) Looking forward to seeing your hat when its finished, love the stitching in the pattern you choose. :)
I love coming here to see what you have been up to and I would be the same about nf needles and a baby close by! : O I find that when I see so many different kinds of creativity it keeps my creative spark going. Thank you for hosting this space!
Looking forward to your mail "announcement" too! ;o)

I love the looks of concentration on their faces as they are working on their craft. I would love to learn to needle felt, I guess I just need to get the tools and start working on it one of these days! I still can't get over how beautiful that yarn is, and although ripping out your work was probably frustrating, at least you know it will be better in the end :)
I love the banner photo of your 2 girls!
