Rhythm In Our Home : Unintentional Traditions

A few Christmas day photos - yes, C is wearing a snow suit in the pictures. It was a Christmas gift and she just had to wear it right away. Baby L and I were/are very excited that Nana got him Freddie's Blanket. I see new knitting projects on the horizon.

Sometimes the best family traditions are the ones that you never even intended to become traditions in the first place. The ones started on a whim, that you didn't think you would do again. For us, our yearly Christmas walk/hike is one of those traditions. We started it last year, when the girls received a canopyfor their red wagon and needed to test it out.

Then when this Christmas came it was such a beautiful day that we all felt that we had to be outside. It didn't seem like Christmas if we didn't take that walk. This time, instead of our usual neighborhood/cemetery walk we hiked an unexplored (by us) area in our woods.

K and C both walked Nara. C got upset when Nara took off on her, though. We then thought it best that Daddy walk Nara.

Every time we pass through the cemetery by our house, K collects wild flowers or flower petals she finds on the ground and places them at the graves that do not have any. I love that she does this.

Hows that for unexpected??

Arms filled with treasures, as always.

Oh yes, this is a family favorite tradition we will continue year after year, no matter the weather or where we live.

Please remember - this is just our family rhythm and what works for us at the moment. This isn't meant to be hard and fast rules on how rhythm should go in every one or any one's homes. I just thought to share it because I receive quite a few e-mails asking about our home rhythm, and I also just wanted it documented for myself so that I may remember these times when they are older and/or on to another rhythm.

Thank you, again, for joining me in the rhythm fun! Here is the linky list. If you have a (new or old) link you would like to share about your family rhythm, please enter it below so that we all may see. Please don't forget to link back here in your post. How else will we all be able to share and be inspired? I look forward to seeing your inspiration!
Thanks friends!

P.S. - Is my header blurry to anyone else, or is it just me? I edited it on Picnik and it's clear in my files but then blurry on the blog - how can I fix this?

Oh the Oregon woods look so green and dreamy. We are surrounded by grey and brown and a little white today. Thanks for sharing Nicole!

I am so jealous that AFTER we moved from Virginia it started to snow there. :p
Love your blog, have been reading for awhile. Will you please tell me where you got the kid backpack? Thanks!

Hi Heather. It's an Ergo baby carrier. I ordered it online years ago but honestly can not remember where from. If you google ergo baby carrier I am sure it will come up. I saw them in REI recently, too. HTH!
Ah! Thanks! I thought it was an Ergo! We are seriously considering purchasing one to help with carrying our 3 year old (who wants so badly to keep up with her 7 year old twin brothers on our outings, but struggles to, and then begs to be "carried")! We gave up our baby backpack when she outgrew the weight limit. Do you like the Ergo? Would you recommend it, or if you had it to do over would you purchase something different? ~hbj
Oh we LOVE our Ergos... in fact we have two of them, one for me and one for Kevin. I have had mine since K was a baby so it's pretty ragged now but still my favorite baby/toddler accessory :)
lovely pictures, the fork is making me think..how on earth?! We have this too, we feed the ducks on Christmas day, always much fun! hgus Laura x
What beautiful pictures. How lovely that you have access to such a fantastic area. In answer to your question about your header...I didn't notice it being blurry until I read your question and then went back up to check it. The letters are blurry on my screen but the photo is not. Hope that helps.
Thanks for sharing your day with us.
Love to read you as usual.
Hi Nicole! I've just recently stumbled upon your blog, and find myself feeling very inspired by you! Love the pictures of your Christmas hike...you really do capture those special moments so beautifully. I look forward to following along with you!!

Hi Sarah - Welcome and thank you!!
Sweet! It's been a warm winter everywhere huh?

Blessings,
Samantha (Woodland Woolens)
We too take a hike or walk on Christmas day. This year the snow was lightly falling, the temperature had warmed up so it was so beautiful to be outside. I find it very centering to go for a walk. We have Christmas supper with family and it is always busy and overwhelming, I like that our walks help bring the little ones back to their center, back to what is comfortable before the craziness of the evening begins. This year I overheard my 5 year old quietly thanking Mother Nature for her gift of snow. My heart melted.

My heart melted just reading that!!
Those woods are magical! I love that she puts flowers on the graves too. One of the corporal works of mercy is burying the dead and I'm sure that giving them flowers counts too : ) Looks like you had a wonderful Christmas and yippee about the book gift!
this is such a great tradition. we took a hike for new year's day, and i think we will have to make it a tradition. even though it was cold, it was so good to be outside, drinking in all the beauty of nature.

i love that K leaves gifts on the untended graves too--she has such a kind and wise spirit!
Love your pics!

Don't suppose you have the pattern for those yummy rainbow slippers in pic #4?

Thanks! I don't have a pattern :( They were Christmas gifts from my Mom. They are Padraig slippers but I think they could easily be made, They look crocheted.
