Apparent Yellow Obsession

First and foremost I wanted to thank all of you for your comments on my post yesterday. Ok, minus being told I am 'full of myself' which has only saddened and confused me, but I assume it's just a misunderstanding. It's nice to be reminded that we are not in this alone. Oh you all brought such relief to my soul and a huge grin upon my face. Thank you! I hope I didn't come across too whiney. I am very happy doing all that I do, I can just get overwhelmed sometimes. The phrase 'simple living' is actually rather funny when you think about how much goes into living that way. The work is all completely satisfying and wonderfully rewarding, and believe me, I wouldn't have it any other way, but it is still work, nonetheless.

Now on to something a bit more fun - current projects!

C and I went to Kinko's - oh excuse me, FedEx office, now - the other day and copied some pictures from our favorite books. We then brought them home and framed them using some old frames sitting in a box in our garage. We are going to hang them all on a wall in our bare dining room to inspire our farm/homestead dreams.

I thought I would show all of you just how huge little L's up sized Little Coffee Bean Sweater is on him, too. See? I wasn't exaggerating. Quite ridiculous, don't you think?!

His work in progress is still that darn tooth. At least I think that's what it is. He is having issues nursing all of the sudden, too and can only seem to fall asleep if he is in a moving vehicle. My friend suggested I try some gripe water so I'll be swinging by the store today on our way to school. It hurts me so much to see my normally laid back, happy, easy going baby in such misery.

I have some embroidery work to finish up *ahem* start on a couple special projects for the girls. Strawberry season is almost here, you know. Goodness that is funny to read. I got used to the early strawberry season in Virginia which has come and gone by now, and here in Oregon ours is just starting.
I swear I didn't do it on purpose but I somehow did it again - more yellow.

Speaking of my apparent yellow obsession... I finished the body of my sweater for the Shalom Knit Along, hosted by the talented Linda over at Natural Suburbia. I am now starting my first sleeve. I added a section of the twisted ribbing (like in the yoke) to the bottom of the sweater, which I think I like. I am uncertain if I like the full nine rows of garter stitch underneath it. I may rip some of those out to make it shorter or I may just leave it as is. I plan on adding the twisted stitches to the cuffs of the sleeves as well so I guess I better figure out how many garter rows I want at the end of those sections soon.

But enough about my projects. What are you working on? Happy creating!

Nicole, yellow is GOOD. :) Seriously it's one of my favorite colors right now too, it's a very "Feel happy" kind of color.

Your little one is such a cutie! Take care
I love the picture idea! L is really precious in that sweater even if it is big on him!
What a fabulous idea!! What books are the pictures from???
Also, I emailed you a while back per your request via the blog....I hope you received it. Nothing urgent by any means....just some farming stuff....

L is adorable!! What a happy baby (minus the teething). ;-)

So cute! Gripe Water is the best for teeth and tummy issues. I have been using it for years on my little ones. I take it for myself sometimes. And it tastes great!!
Dear me - "full of yourself"?? I'm so sad that you get nasty posts >:-(. But more-so that you fear you were being whiney. Dear one, being real and true ... on good and on difficult days, is worthy of sharing - in fact, I think it would be better and, in fact, a necessary way of building an online community. Thank you for your honesty.

Now, to the craftyness...I've been wanting to take my favorite pictures from the Runaway Bunny and decorate my DS's bedroom with it...sort of as a threat (lol!) and as a reminder of my love for him. I think your photos being a daily reminder of your future hopes is a lovely idea! Would you share the books they came from...they look delicious.

My guy has always preferred wearing clothes that are practically falling off of him, so to me L looks perfectly tailored in his beautiful, cozy sweater ;-) Can't wait for the strawberries...hmmmm I wonder if we cold find a you-pick place half-way between our homes and meet up there later this month?? Looking forward to your gorgeous sweater!

Could your little one have thrush? Any white coating on his tongue? This would cause difficulty with nursing and general fussiness. If so, some baby probiotics a few times a day would be helpful.

Don't let peoples negative comments poison you:)

Your little guy is so adorable...and I love the yellow sweater!!!

Oh ~ and I forgot to mention yesterday, about the laundry...an extra scoop of borax put in with the load almost always gets out the dinginess in our clothes. :) Geez, I do laundry a lot...

Oh, yellow! I would never tire of it! :)

Love the pictures. What a great idea for decorating on a budget too.

I've been a Pacific Northwest girl my whole life and so I'm used to a late strawberry season but I'm REALLY looking forward to it this year! Our berries are growing quite well and I think that I may have figured out a way to keep the slugs from eating them...eggshells! Trying it out, can't hurt.

Looking forward to seeing your Shalom finished. So pretty!

You are one of the last people I would call "full of yourself"

Not to mention that this is *your* blog, your space, I think you're more than allowed to focus on yourself once in a while.

Lastly, oh my goodness, little L is growing so quickly and he's so beautiful.
Oh my gosh.... those pictures are just what I want for my children's bedroom but i can't find anywhere... could you please please tell me what books they are on so I can make some for us too??

And as for the 'full of yourself' comment, i think it migh be that English isn't her first language.... you must have many readers from all over the globe and sometimes sentence construction can be odd when English is a second language.... for instance she might have meant 'you are very busy' maybe instead of the negative way it sounds??

hugs, Jen x

I love that picture from Emily and Daisy and what a wonderful idea! I have been pining over prints for my girls rooms that are not in the budget. This would be a great way to add something to our bare walls. Thank you for sharing.

I think we need some farm pictures on the walls. Emily and Daisy has such good illustrations, with all that yellowness of course.

I have thought about yellow a lot today. Isn't that funny, all those other things we talk about, the things we think about all day long, and also I have time to just think about yellow too. Or another color perhaps...

I can't wait to see the color you put on your yellow embroidery.
You sure are going to be beautiful in that pretty sweater!

I had a sewing day. Have you noticed I am doing that often lately? I became particularly obsessed with pinafores today...

If it wasn't for seeing your post today I would have forgotten, again, all about posting the handmade birthday gifts. But I finally did it :)

XO
Of course, we needed the yellowness :)
Sewing days... oh so jealous! Off to see your post!

I enjoy all of your posts. Please keep keeping it real. I know most bloggers want to keep their blog upbeat etc. But, it is nice to hear from time to time that it isn't all smooth sailing. Not that I wish anyone hard times, but its help others to know that not everyones life is perfect as it LOOKS on some blogs. I hope this make sense, its supposed to be encouraging to you. As my mama always said: "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything."
Wasn't that drilled into everyones head during their childhoods?
yellow is my favorite color. your shalom looks so good! i'm working on a yellow audrey in unst cardigan right now.
I love the idea for the framed pics! So beautiful. Your just chuck full of good ideas! The sweater is adorable so big! Hope your little guy feels better soon.

I so appreciate your beautiful blog. Ignore those rude remarks.

Love Elsa Beskow. Love the current projects, the pictures, and esp. the ones of your sweet baby!
I wish I would have known about the shalom knitalong sooner...that one has been in my queue for quite awhile and I could use a push to get it started! Your babe is adorable and the sweater is so cute! Happy stitching and have a lovely weekend!
