Exploration

The Children and Nature Network has declared the month of April to be Children and Nature Awareness Month. This really makes me happy. Children need to be outdoors. Thank you Lisa for making us aware by posting about it here.

To celebrate I thought I would share a photographic tour of part of our weekend. On Saturday, my husband and our dog Nara had search & rescue training at a mountain about an hour away from our house. The girls and I tagged along for an outdoor adventure. Little did we know it snowed there the night before, so we were not fully prepared for our exploration but that didn't stop us.

I love the moss covered trees here.

Happy little mushrooms growing on a rock

The girls at an old water trough

Melting snow

Trees as far as the eye can see

It really was a beautiful place, and the girls were in heaven being able to finally play in snow. I couldn't stop taking pictures but instead of making this post even more picture heavy than it already is, I uploaded some more onto my flickr page.

Wishing you all a fun week of outdoor play!

We had a similar time on Saturday, only it was summer-like temps here. Crazy! It looks like a wonderful outing. K's hat is still the cutest! :)

Oh, I'm so jealous of your green! I struggle sometimes with seeing the beauty in the desert (I try really hard), so it is so nice to see some green in others' corners of the world. Love the idea of nature awareness month. Gorgeous captures!!

Your photos of nature were gorgeous... I especially love the colors of the mushroom on the log :)

Beautiful pictures. Stunning nature where you are! A huge contrast from Toronto area which is all flat and mostly urban :-(

Such beautiful photos! I love getting out into the woods. How wonderful that your dog is a S&R trainee.

Thank you everyone! Isn't the moss crazy out here?! We love seeing it.

We are super proud of Nara. She still has quite a ways to go in training but she'll get there.

Our Skuut bike is a lot better than I thought it would be. I read the bad reviews, too. They scared me! But then I contacted the owner of the companyand she said there were a couple of bad batches but the problems were fixed. We got the bike in 2008 and K has been riding it almost daily since then with no issues. HTH!

Thank you for the inspiration! April finds us outside as well. . . I wrote along similar lines on my blog last night and was pleased to read your post this morning.

I found you through Rhythm of the Home a few weeks ago and I've been enjoying getting to know you via your blog. I loved your i-cord snails and linked to your pictures last week.

Happy April!

Neat about the search and rescue training.
Some days here are still so cold we can't be out as much as we would like. Warmer days coming soon though.
Moss is one of my favorite things!

Love your pictures! I was wondering about the little bike in the last picture. I've seen those on the web and was wondering if you are pleased with it?

beautiful mossy green photographs! thanks for this post. we've been home bound with fever this past week and a little stir crazy. this post makes me excited to get outside again. we've recently joined a young naturalist's club which is inspiring us to explore some "new to us" territory of our forests and streams.
