The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity
amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one
project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall
behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with,
too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture
or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and

Well, I didn't meet my self imposed deadline for finishing the front of K's birthday vest (I had lofty goals of the end of August) but I am still moving along steadily.

Getting the slightest bit farther on K's birthday request vest sneaking in stitches here and there between all the tomato processing.
Also someone asked me last week about the yarn I am using in the comments section but for some reason I can't access the comments now. I apologize! The yarn is Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo in Sunset. HTH!

Just the usual around here - more knitting photos in the kitchen while I work on preserving.
I cast on K's birthday request and it has been slow going.

Sorry for the late post - our internet has been down since yesterday afternoon. I am currently working on a little surprise gift for my youngest. I got him the book "The Curious Fish" by Elsa Beskow and am knitting him wool socks to match the ones the little boy wears (you can see them in the photo). Of course it is way too hot here right now for wool socks so I am adding a half inch to the length. Hopefully they will fit perfectly this autumn.

I finished and gifted the Padre Pio mitts to our priest for Father's day. They look funny blocking but they came out rather nicely!

I am still heavily working in my kitchen as well as on the homestead but I found some time to sneak in a quick project for our favorite priest - some St. Padre Pio mitts.

We baked some sourdough bread, knit a washcloth and made a beeswax ornament as a thank you gift to our dear neighbors that plowed our field for us over the weekend.

I finished C's birthday shawl and dress for her birthday! The shawl pattern is called Holden (C picked it out herself) and the dress is the Washi dress pattern. I sewed her the smallest size and changed the neckline as well as added length. The next one I make will have more length added (the extra 2" wasn't enough) and I still want to tweak the neckline a bit more.
And remember these?
They are Katydid eggs!

Less than week until C's birthday and still chugging away on her shawl. I have yet to start her dress. Hoping Kevin being home for the week will give me the extra time I need.
On another note. Does anyone happen to know what insect these eggs belong to?
I am finding them only on the small/thin dead branches of our peach trees. I am thinking I need to remove them in case they might damage/infest our trees. Any ideas? For the record the peach trees we not cared for by the previous home owners so they need a lot of help. I am taking an orchard care class through PSU this month in hopes of figuring out how to bring them up to par.

Back to the basics seems to be my theme this week. We have been gathering elderberry clippings from the woods by our church to root indoor and hopefully create a little elderberry patch on our property this summer. In between all the foraging and preparing I am knitting some basic washcloths for a friend in a soothing color.

The belated birthday sweater is done now but needs to be seamed and blocked so obviously now is a good time to abandon it and cast on a matching hat. Eh, it seemed logical at the time.

This adorable Fin sweater and hat pattern was gifted to me years ago for L. I had been wanting to knit it all that time but somehow or other it just kept slipping my mind. Well, I happened to look at the pattern last month in preparation for L's upcoming birthday and I saw that it only went up to size 10 (L will be turning 9) so what better time to knit it for him! If I finish the sweater in time I will go ahead and knit the matching hat, too.
