Last summer my friend's baby boy was born sleeping. I felt like my heart broke into a million pieces hearing her story. I can not imagine the pain that she went through/is going through. She mentioned to me that one comfort she has is the tiny knit hat and blanket he was presented to her in.

A couple of weeks back the same friend told me about a knitting event being hosted by Abigail's Hope. Their mission is to bless families through the heartbreak of losing their precious baby in utero with gifts that will help them heal and feel loved. Abigail's Hope provides handmade baby hats, blankets, books and other items to grieving families. As soon as she told me about this event I knew I needed to help and my girls would want to as well.

Weaving prayers into each and every stitch, my girls and I knit for them. We knit for the babies that never had a chance to gaze up into their mother's loving eyes, and for the mothers that will forever have an empty space in their hearts. I hope our act of love can bring at least the smallest bit of comfort to the parents, letting them know that their baby is loved, and so are they.

p.s. - I didn't get a chance to photograph all the hats we knit before giving them to Abigail's Hope but we had a good amount. C and I have decided to continue our efforts and knit as many as we can.

This is so wonderful, especially that you are doing it with your girls!
Thank you for sharing. Bookmarked for when we get settled in our new home.
So sorry to hear of your friend's loss. The Lord works in mysterious ways. We will only know his reasons when we see him on the other side. Bless you and C for the work you are doing for Abigail's Hope. Thank you for including the URL link for Abigail's Hope also; now I can go look at the patterns you and C are using.
Oh, how beautiful is this?! What a wonderful thing to do with your girls.
It is always so rewarding to knit for a cause...thank you for sharing!
beautiful hats.
As a Mama who has experienced multiple losses, I thank you for participating in this program. Thanks Be to God, I went on to have two precious boys but remember the kindness of others when I went home from the hospital empty-armed. Your comments about knitting love and prayer into each stitch made me tear up and I know the women receiving your gifts will feel that love. God Bless!

do you have a pattern for these wee hats? or at least yarn weight, needle size, and cast on? :)

Not exactly. I used a pattern I found for micro-preemies on rav and tweeked it. Basically make each hat smaller and smaller by casting on less stitches. It was this one: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/calvins-h...

C knit some flat dolls hats patterns with smaller needles and lighter weight yarn.
