Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.
KCCO - Martinmas lantern children in progress

Remember that Saint Lucia Waldorf craft swap I did last year? Well, this year I decided to join the Martinmas swap they had going on. I am currently working on a little army of lantern children to send forth and bring their light to other families around the globe.

KCCO Let the baby knitting commence! I just love how small everything is and how fast it knits up. I have a feeling this little sweater will be done in just a few more days. I already know which button will be perfect for it, too.

K turned ten over the weekend. Ten! How did we already reach double digits?! We celebrated our sweet girl with a lot of pumpkin and apple baking and cooking (as usual), an afternoon tea party with friends and some family swimming. It was very much a "K day".

I can still remember K's kindergarten teacher telling me that K chose to come first and be the big sister to all her siblings. She chose to take on the responsibilities that come with being the oldest and the one who all the younger siblings look up to. Looking at these pictures of her interacting with her little brother and sister on her birthday really brings that into perspective. She loves them so! What a special soul we have been blessed with.

What I get

This is what I get for asking my children to let me take some pictures when they are in super silly mode: Aibhie's Hat Aibhie's Hat Aibhie's Hat Aibhie's Hat adjustments silliness Aibhie's Hat silly tumbleweed Aibhie's Hat Ha! I gave up at that point. Silly sister love. We'll try to get some better ones another day.

The details: The girls hats are the test knits I was working on last month for my talented friend Ginny. Her pattern is called Aibhie’s Hat and it was such a pleasure to make (so much so that I had to make two!). The pattern comes in newborn to adult sizes. I am thinking of knitting one for myself and maybe even the baby, too.

p.s. - C is wearing K's outgrown Sunday sweater, also designed by Ginny.

Short and sweet

parade parade prep parade prep parade My sweet girlies were in a parade over the weekend with their new American Heritage Girls troop. They had such a great time, even though the sun was beating down on them and the heat was a bit unbearable. My C surprised me by coming out of her shell quite a bit, making new friends and waving to the onlookers. She told me she wished that it never came to an end. who are they crowding around? What are these adorable girls crowding around? our Paw Paw, of course! Why, our Paw Paw of course! Kevin brought him with us to the parade and everyone fell in love with him. I can't say I blame them, he is quite the handsome dog. Although he is also the most stubborn dog I have ever known. for Fida <3 Just because this sign cracked me up, and I knew my friend Fida would appreciate it.

And the reason why this post is short and sweet... math gnome time I have been putting it off for quite awhile but I can't avoid it any longer. It's time for the math gnomes to come out and teach C the four processes. I am truly making it a bigger deal than it really is and I saw that as I was rereading the curriculum today, but I still have this feeling of dread going in to it all. Time to go finalize her lesson plans for the week and conquer my fear. Wish me luck!

Wiwiurka (Amazing wooden trapeze bar and postcard frame giveaway!)

Today's incredible giveaway is from Wiwiurka who offers handmade wooden play structures and heirloom toys. We have their trapeze bar and wooden climber and I just can not say enough good things about them! All three of my squirrels children spend a good portion of their days playing on them. Climbing is such an important developmental activity for children. My children had endless trees to climb back in Oregon but here in Idaho tree sightings are few and far between, and when we do see them, most are not suitable for climbing. I am so grateful for Wiwiurka's wooden climber because of this. Now my children get the climbing they need, even in the suburban desert!
In their own words:

Tell us a bit more about yourselves:
Ana: I am a Mom of three little girls who are my main inspiration. I am behind the sales, promotion and custom service of our family business. I enjoy crafting more than anything else in the world, lol. We live in a quaint Mexican mountainous village. Surrounded by the beauty and calmness of the forest. L on his Wiwiurka trapeze bar How did your business begin?
Several years ago, my husband came up with the idea to build wooden playgrounds using reclaimed wood from his tree work. The first swing set was made when my eldest daughter was 2 months old. Eventually the idea of the Climber /Wiwiurka Monkey Bars were born.
Marek: (who is from Germany), Climbing Trees is part of my work, which I have enjoyed since childhood. Even though climbing is essential in proper development and gross motorskills; children no longer have time or opportunities to climb trees. Now as a team, we spend our days thinking of, sketching, making and testing new playstrcutures and wooden toys. Most of our toys are made from the reclaimed wood of avocado, oak, ash, guavo, citrus and cedar trees. C at the top of the Wiwiurka wooden climber What are your biggest influences?
The beauty of the forest and the organic shapes from the trees.

Where did your business name came from?
Since I love to climb trees, squirrel seemed appropriate. To honor my Polish heritage, I chose squirrel in Polish-Wikiwurka.
