Perspective

evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk he tried to climb the rock evening walk evening walk evening walk evening walk as father sun slips away Some nights we just need to drop everything (*gasp* even the children's bed time) and escape into the wilderness. Moments such as these help to put everything back into perspective.

"Often we want to be somewhere other than where we are, or even to be someone other than we are. We tend to compare ourselves constantly with others and wonder why we are not as rich, as intelligent, as simple, as generous, or as saintly as they are. Such comparisons make us feel guilty, ashamed, or jealous. It is very important to realize that our vocation is hidden in where we are and who we are. We are unique human beings, each with a call to realize in life what nobody else can, and to realize it in the concrete context of the here and now. We will never find our vocations by trying to figure out whether we are better or worse than others. We are good enough to do what we are called to do."
~ Henri Nouwen

Beautiful photos, Nicole! I'm jealous that you live so near somewhere so lovely. Living in a major city has been such an adventure but sometimes I miss the quiet and the smell of fresh air.

Thank you, Kylie! I hear you on the city life! can still remember when I lived in Los Angeles feeling the need to get back to nature quite often. I was lucky enough to nanny a sweet little boy that needed lots of outdoor time so I spent 4 days a week hiking in the mountains or playing at the beach. Of course the drive was always brutal, though.
These are such beautiful photos, Nicole! The one of K smiling with Miss Maggie Rabbit is precious. I'll bet those wide open spaces in the wilderness were good for the soul. You know, I try to be good with bedtimes too (though ours aren't as early as yours) but sometimes I remember that exhilarating feeling of being a child "out late" - running in the dark chasing fireflies or staring at the stars - and I feel that these are good things for children, too, sometimes. : ) I love your Henri Nouwen quote. We all need to hear that.

I can remember nights like that as a child, too! They were so special. I hope my children feel the same way about their late nights.
Beautiful photos! Where in Idaho are you? We're moving there from California in two days!

Thank you. That quote really speaks to me.
Ah, perspective! Even if the bedtime has to go. Beautiful photos. "We are good enough." Thank you.

Indeed. I believe we all need that reminder, perhaps even daily for some of us (like me!).
Love the quote, Nicole. Thanks for sharing it!!

Of course! I think I need to print it out so I can see it all the time.

Thank you! I am finding lately that my photos match my mood and this little walk had me relaxed, refueled and full of gratitude. I think I need to step away from my camera when in a bad mood, though. Eeek!
Beautiful treasured moments... These are the times your children will remember forever.
These photos really capture the magic of the evening - enjoyed both in the present moment but also, I expect, enjoyed in the memories of it too. That quote really is perfect, I'm so glad you shared it with us :)
