Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

Ah, the Monsoon shawl. I had been admiring it from afar for months now waiting for a free moment to cast it on for myself. Well, with three children that I love to knit for, free moments are few and far between so after I finished Little L's dragon attire I decided to just go for it. I'm happy that I did. I really don't knit for myself very often.

And on a completely unrelated note -
IMG_7181 My K received a book from her Nana on Friday and has not been able to put it down. She has suddenly become a little bookworm! I love it. She is even underling things she wants to remember as she reads. But last night a little before midnight as I was getting ready to go to bed she came out of her room hugging her book. I  thought something was wrong but she was all smiles and said she had been reading the whole time. It had been quiet and dark in the girls' room so I thought she was sleeping! I think I need to invest in a good book light for her so she isn't straining her eyes. Any suggestions? I used to have one that I bought from Borders many years ago but it fell apart. I need one that can withstand a nine year old as well as possible attacks by a three year old dragon.

What are you working on?! Happy creating!

Instead of a book light that clips onto her book, how about a light that hooks onto her bedpost. Or, if she doesn't have a headboard, then a small headlamp. I like those a lot and my five year old son, who is afraid of the dark, uses it at night when he gets up to use the bathroom. He also uses it when we are driving at night home from his grandparent's house so that he can draw while we are driving. It is child sized with an LED light and the head strap is adjustable. We bought it for $10 at home depot but I have also seen them at Target. The ones at home depot do not have cartoons on them, just colors. But, the ones I have seen at Target have Disney Cartoons on them.
Your shawl looks beautiful; I love that blue-green color. I looked at the pattern, and it's just lovely. I want to knit myself some shawls, too, but, like you, I am usually making child-sized things! Maybe over the winter. It's wonderful that K is enjoying her reading so much. My eldest girl is quite the bookworm, too.
my kids read with LL Bean headlamps. They have withstood lots of roughness for 2+ years with no issue, and they're great for camping and playing in the dark, too!
It is so wonderful to see a child discover the deep pleasure of reading.
Try the JANSJÖ LED clamp lamps from IKEA. Only $14.99, come in a range of really nice colours and clamp to the back of the bed.

I also have two little girls who like to read/ draw at night. We got two Xtraflex2 Led Book Lights and they are built to last. We have had them for about a year and a half and they still look brand new. My oldest daughter clips hers onto her drawing board and my youngest daughter clips hers to the side of her bed while she's reading books.
We like the Ikea wall lamps (SMILA) that are shaped like flowers, bugs, and moons. They're bright enough to read by but dim enough that siblings in the room can still sleep. (the website says they are recalled but it's just a quick fix with a little kit- no big deal)
Oh nothing better than a book you can just immerse yourself in. I read under the bedcovers as a child with a torch. Lovely to see you getting
time to create for yourself. The dragon legs (and arms) are wonderful. I hope they don't encourage too much fire breathing :) Have a lovely week.

What a pretty pattern and I love your colour choice, beautiful!!!! Deb x
lovely yarn and pattern, can't wait to see what people recommend for book lights, I'm in the dark on that one (snicker).
What a precious book!
Thank you everyone! I found her a head lamp and we are all much happier about it all!
