Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

With the Martinmas sweaters out of the way it's time to think about Christmas knitting. I already had gifts started for C and Little L but was a bit stuck deciding on one for K. Then the perfect gift presented itself to me after a chat with my friend Christine. We talked about how rough this impending move has been on my girls - especially K. Christine suggested telling Pedagogical stories to help her through it all (I briefly spoke of them a couple of years back, here). Then I mentioned how K has really been identifying with the Little House books even more so than usual lately. We are moving from the big woods to land similar to one of Laura's homesteads "a strange land with no trees". The more I think about the books and Laura's words, the more I can see how K is living through them.

With Laura Ingalls Wilder on the brain I came back to this pattern - the Little House shawl (yet another pattern by my extremely talented friend Joanna Johnson). I don't think it could get any more perfect than this for K. I found some green yarn in my stash (one of her favorite colors) and cast on. I hope she likes it! She mentioned wanting a flannel bonnet for the wintertime so maybe I'll make that to go along with her shawl. It just might be a whole Little House themed Christmas for K!

What are you working on?! Happy creating!

p.s. - I was just in touch with the people at Mister Linky about the issues with linking up for some of you. If you have been having a problem linking up lately I was told that they are having issues with internet explorer 10 and to try linking up with another browser. Please let me know if this works for you!

If you would like to link up and share your current works in progress (or finished works) please leave your link below. It can now be either to your specific blog post or Flickr photo. There are no rules, only that your link is current and something about a craft project (of any kind) you are working on. Don't forget that there is now a KCCO Flickr group for you to share your crafting photos at anytime.

Please remember to link back here so that others who may want to join KCCO can find us.

It's as simple as that. Remember your post can be from any day of the week, it doesn't have to be today. We all love feedback so if you have a moment please leave a comment on some of the KCCO posts you may visit. I know from my own experience just how much your comments really motivate me! Now please share and inspire us all!

That yarn is the perfect green. It's amazing how beautifully it comes out. I'm glad you are knitting for you. You've also given me a new chapter book outlet for my children, thanks for that. Katie x

Ooh, I read that quite incorrectly! K is fortunate to have you knitiing for her. I haven't read the Little House books in so long and I'm so excited that my children are now at the right age for chapter books. Your Christmas theme sounds heavenly. Katie x
I actually knit a somewhat similar shawl for myself. I just blocked it today so there is something for me too! ;)
That couldn't be a prettier shade of green! Love it. What a beautiful gift it will be too, something matched with a favourite book. I'm sure she'll adore it.
The color is so lovely! Christmas crafting is a near daily occurrence at my house right now too.
Oh what a wonderful idea. Rhythmofthehome.com has a little house shawl pattern, too in one of its archived issue. I love the Little House books and my four year old son loves them too. We always start with the first one in the fall. Remember when Laura received her doll for Christmas and how happy she was! Your girls are lucky to have such an intuitive mother who know just what is right to soothe their hearts!

Yes, this is the same pattern but I am knitting the adult version instead.
Thank you for your kind words <3
Perfect it is! Praying for you my friend with the upcoming move!
Beautiful knitting! What needles are you using?

I've got so much on the go now, I'm definitely going to join up with the KCCO flickr pool!

Thank you. They are the Clover Takumi bamboo needles.
I read the little house books growing up and read them to my class when I was teaching 2nd grade. I adore the shawl. What a wonderful Christmas gift that will be. What fun!! Love the yarn too!
Thank you for sharing the link to the shawl. Beautiful!
I made that one for M a little while ago. It's very sweet and she loves it. You might want to add a little length though. M is a tall-ish 4 yo (5 pretty soon) and I feel like it's fine but could be a bit longer.
Oh, also, I sewed on some ribbon ties so that it could be secured and she could run around without worrying about it falling off. They made it much more wearable for her.

Oh I like that idea! Thank you!! I am knitting the adult size for K hoping that will be big enough...what size did you knit?
The child size. I would think the adult would be plenty big enough!
Such a good idea!
What a beautiful shade of green!!! I loved the Little House books as a child, and have enjoyed them again as an adult reading them to my children.
Sophie would love this. What a beautiful pattern - and a great idea. (Thinking of you as you get through this move.)
That yarn is beautiful. It looks so soft. It's been all about Christmas knitting for me lately. A couple of gifts to get done then I'm onto some Christmas socks for myself!
I love that pattern! So pretty. I will have to add it to my growing list. :-)
Thank you for hosting this. The past couple of weeks this space and the crafting on party over here has given me the momentum that I have needed to cast off projects and to begin a blog that I've been wanting to begin for years. It's crude at the moment but it's a start. Your space is inspiring and it's kind of you to share it.
The yarn is gorgeous! I do love when knits have a meaning, a reason behind. I'm sure she'll treasure this.
