Waldorf mermaids & a backyard water park

Finally, pictures of my ocean themed knitting I had been mentioning over the course of the summer! I finished these awhile back but just wasn't able to find the time to snap pics. The girls special dolls became mermaids via this knitting pattern. I altered the pattern just a bit to make the tails into full outfits. The girls have been playing mermaids with them pretty much non-stop. Such a fun way to incorporate their most treasured friends into our lessons.

As summer was nearing it's end and our ocean learning was coming to a close, the girls decided to make a backyard waterpark. They were inspired, once again, by Martin and Sylvia. They told Kevin and I that they could only use things we already had in our home or garage. They played some water spray bottle tag, water mud kitchen and made their own slip and slide with some garbage bags anchored into the ground with thick sticks. All three of my children seemed to thoroughly enjoy the waterpark, which really had absolutely nothing to do with our ocean studies - that is until a shark appeared in their water fun...

land shark attack!

Nara AKA Land Shark. Oh how she loves to attack play in water.

Little L finds her shark antics quite entertaining. I do, too!

I love the mermaid outfits you have made they are lovely :)
Oh I love their little mermaid tails! So fun. One of our waldorf dolls has a mermaid tail (but it's sewn out of polar fleece) for my water-loving little girl. The backyard waterpark looks like fun!
I LOVE the mermaids! I may have to make some of those for my daughter's dolls. And the children and the waterpark are so cute - how creative of them! It's always so heartwarming to see children being creative in this way - children who have been raised in a way to cultivate this quality. Enjoyed your ocean studies you posted about as well - you are going to be *awesome* at homeschooling, rest assured! Nara is so funny - we used to have a dog that would do that every time I watered our yard or plants with the hose - it really made us laugh.

Oh thank you Stacey - your kindness really touched me <3
What is it with those water dogs, btw?! :p
The mermaid tail is amazing!! I'm so jealous. I want to make a waldorf doll this year, but I'm still so intimidated to try it. I did spin the yarn for her hair though, and have a friend to help me figure the doll out. I'm much better with the knitting though, so I'll have to put the mermaid tail in the queue for when I finish the doll! I LOVE your projects.

Thank you. I promise once you get through your first doll it's so easy. I psyched myself out from making them for a long time but then once I actually did it I realized they are much easier than they look - very time consuming but easy! Keep me updated on how it goes!!
Those mermaids turnned out lovely! Is that linen stitch? The stitch looks like a bookmark I made recently. If that is linen stitch I really admire you for making such a large project. I barely surrvived making the bookmark! Modest merbabies are hard to come by you did a fantastic job :)

I think it was the linen or half linen stitch. I admit it was a bit of a PITB stitch but so worth it. The pattern has a few different stitch options but this one just looked like scales to me (and also stopped my yarn from pooling so much)

Oh how fun! I think a backyard water park is such a great idea! Too bad the weather has cooled down now. Will have to remember to do that next summer!

Ha,ha. I know. I am so bad about posting things much later...*ahem*
I know this an older post but do you remember where you got the girls swim skirts? I would appreciate it so much!

We bought them from Land's End on sale and LOVE them. They got long sleeve version this year for our tree less (and shade less) Idaho :)
