The root children arrived at our home (and appreciation!)

The root children appeared! 008 Daphne Canadian geese greeting us at school 080 spring in our home! Spring! 085 Spring 062 storm fast approaching storm fast approaching 097 spring

Spring arrived with a gentle morning of picking daphne and searching for wool eggs that the root children left behind, but then followed with a BANG! of hailstorms and very unpredictable weather.  You can see a storm quickly approaching in the magnolia (11th and 12th down from the top) pictures. Just moments before I snapped those photos the sun was out bright and cheery.  It seems as though we are getting "in like a lion, out like a lamb" all in one day!

Typing seems to bother my wrists more than anything else right now so I am keeping this short and sweet but I wanted to share a link I found with you: Blogging from a non-bloggers perspective
It really touched me. To all of you out there in the blogging world - you are appreciated!!!

p.s - You can learn more about our root children celebration here.

p.p.s - Poor Little L has a yeast (diaper) rash. his doctor want us to use athlete's foot cream but I know there are natural alternatives. Any suggestions?

Beautiful daffodils!
Apple cider vinegar in the bathwater (and lots of bare-butt time) always worked for my boys' yeast rashes.
Great photos! Our root children showed up a little early and were found napping this morning in my napkin at the breakfast table. They are having great fun romping with the leprechauns who don't quite want to leave yet! All good times!

Yogurt is great for yeast infections. Make sure little L is getting lots of daily probiotics, but specifically right now, I'd say try using some thinned out yogurt or whey from plain yogurt with live active cultures as a wet wipe of the affected area before re-diapering. Air-time is great. And we use a wonderful spray for our daughter, called diaper lotion potion which comes as a concentrate to be mixed with witch hazel. I get it from Green Mountain Diapers. Hope the rash clears up soon. Happy Spring!
What beautiful Spring images. I am sure your Root Children celebration was very special - it was a great favourite of my son's when he was young. Diaper rash - Egg white used to be a favourite - calendual cream - or if you are still breastfeeding then using some ebm on the rash sometimes helps. Poor baby.

Thank you so much for linking to our post! Your site is absolutely beautiful! :)
Gentain violet helps a great deal...my youngest got it on his bum and in his mouth and transferred it to me while nursing!!! YIKES did that ever hurt, but gentain violet worked...I had purple breast's (and he had a purple butt) for awhile, but it's not like anyone saw them. Just be careful b/c it stains.

Lovely photos! I see many exciting treasures on your table - a rabbit hutch, paper cut mobile, needlefelting supplies, and flower press! FUN! And I love the Spring card pinned to your wall too!
We used Weleda Calendula Cream ( http://www.weleda.com/ ) on our daughter's yeast diaper rash years ago. Or coconut oil works well too as it's a natural anti inflammatory/antibiotic all in one. Another idea although I have never tried it and it may sting but a steamed onion has the same properties as the coconut oil and may work? I hope your wrists feel better, the same remedy may work if inflammation is the cause of your troubles as well?
Good luck! Let us know what works.

Coconut oil works on "ladies yeast problems". When my son had a rash that wouldn't quit ( and we had tried everything, even the actual meds the Dr. prescribed that didn't work) my grandma said, I can fix that and made some browned flour and had me use that as "powder" and it worked like a miracle. I was so surprised, so simple. Just put regular flour in a frying pan and heat it on low stirring constantly until it browns lightly. Good luck, rashes of any kind aren't fun, but yeast is especially yuck. Smiles
I swear by a salve made with Plaintain and comfrey. So great. Also, with my third child, only wool covers would work. He always had rash until we threw out the PUL . I think he just ran a little warmer, and the wool was cooler and more breathable.
I second the gentian violet recommendation, worked for us, too. Easy to find at independent pharmacists, but a chain will order it and have it arrive quickly, too. A small bottle ran about $5.00. So, all natural and cost effective, two qualities I appreciate!
Just a note: Gentian violet is effective, but it is not all natural as its name suggests. It does not at all come from Gentian. It is a chemical dye used for gram stains, it is derived from coal tar, and has been proven to be carcinogenic in lab tests. The reason it works is that is a strong anti-fungal. I'm not saying it's completely unsafe, and have in fact used it for oral thrush, but I felt like I should mention this for you. I googled "is gention violet natural" and came up with lots of info.
I don't think Winter is going to let go quietly. Lovely to see some signs of Spring.
All of the remedies above have worked for us, especially the expressed breast milk and the cococut oil; it smothers the yeast. Also, if you are using cloth diapers, you do have to pre-treat them (just the cloth, not the covers) with the apple cider vinegar before you wash them in HOT water. It is also a good idea to pre-treat his towels. Otherwise, the yeast will continue to grow and infect him.
how beautiful! can't wait !
I would use a tea-tree oil (melaleuca oil) cream for that yeast rash. You can make your own by adding one or two drops of melaleuca oil to a half-cup of olive oil and applying that after his diaper change. It can be irritating if it's too strong, so no more than two drops per half-cup, for sure.

You might try disposable diapers while he's healing. Apparently, cotton diapers especially can make it worse, and yeast is very resistant to the kinds of things that usually disinfect diapers, such as vinegar and sunshine. Poor little bum!
what was recommended to us- and worked wonders! was weleda calendula oil applied thinly (the baby one) followed by the weleda calendula nappy rash cream (full of zink). nappy free time before- or if it's to cold dry him with a hair dryer so there's no moisture before applying the oil. good luck and wishing you pain free days very soon!
We love our Weleda diaper cream. We put it on at the first sign of redness, and we've never had a full blown diaper rash. The active ingredient is zinc, I believe.
It's still snowing here, so I am really appreciating your pictures of flowers coming out and geese on the fresh grass! I love your Spring post when the root children come out. I think it's such a fun tradition.

Seeing the honey sticks on your table, I have to say that I finally came across these and picked up a package (thanks to seeing them in your blog posts before). What a great idea to use them instead of candy! They are the perfect size and perfect amount of fun and sweet. Why is it that kids love anything that comes in a straw?

Thanks for posting even though you are in pain right now. I hope your wrist issues clear up quickly.
A gentle warm baking soda bath 2-3 times a day (really just soak his bum for 5-10 minutes). Children's Hospital recommended (at least 2 years ago) and it worked like a charm, is a frugal remedy, and typically on hand ingredient. Don't use regular baby wipes (too astringent and they can hurt on a rash!), a damp wash cloth with time to let his li'l bum dry before putting on another diaper.

Love the spring pics!
Beautiful blossoms! where in Autumn over this end of the world.
I was agreeing Jennifer :- thinking tea tree oil too! it is very strong I use it on my kids diluted all the time for cuts and sores and detering head lice.
I also love Weleda products too!

Our ped is very granola and also suggests the antifungal miconazole cream for yeasty rash in cracks and crevices. He suggested alternating between Desitin (I used Calif Baby) to keep moisture out, and miconazole (which is, like, Vagisil, I think) when changing/pottying.

FWIW my LC said the miconazole also is OK for breast yeast infections when mixed with polysporin (not neosporin) and bacitracin, because the contents should dissolve in the saliva and it's a small amount

I also sprayed my son with water (shower sprayer) after every poopy diaper and sometimes after pee ones, that seemed to help rashes of all sorts.

My son has a sugar bug (blue vein across bridge of nose) and a bread fetish, so we see yeast a lot. I'm going to have to keep an eye on his diet as he grows..
