Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

012

This is K's last week of school and I am still thinking and rethinking her teachers' gifts. I think I have my mind made up now... but as I make absolutely sure, I am working on some socks for the dolls in K's classroom. Her teachers saw me working on the doll socks I made for 'L baby' back in February and I told them I would make some for the classroom. Well, 4 months later I am finally getting around to it. They are such a fast knit though, so I am hoping to get two pairs done by the last day of school.

There is so much love and gratitude going into our dear teachers gifts. I am counting all of the blessings they have given us over the past two years with every stitch of the knitting needles or mixing of the lavender concoction I make. But I have to admit I am daydreaming a bit and looking forward to a new project on the horizon. One that both K and I will work on together. It may be the cutest thing yet (and the pattern is by one of my favorite designers). One word : Mermouse.

For a finished project - Do you happen to remember the girls' strawberry picking dresses I made for them last spring?

Well, now Baby L has his very own strawberry picking 'quick change' pants. I tried to make them more 'boyish' with the colors I chose. I hope I pulled it off ok. The pattern is the one I have been mentioning pretty much since Baby L was born (but didn't get around to sewing) from Handmade Beginnings. I made the 24 month size and followed Meg's notes for altering the pattern to fit over cloth diaper bums. I hope to have pictures of him in them soon. Now I know what my friend Cindy was talking about when she said dresses are much more time consuming to sew than pants. The girls dresses take me days, sometimes weeks from start to finish. These little pants? They took me one night to make. I 'd guess 3 hours, tops!

What are you working on? Happy creating!

I have made many quick change pants for my 1 yr old son. I didn't know about the cloth nappy alterations though and wish I did as his are very tight!! I love the material and think they look very boyish!!
That yarn and tiny sock - so cute!!!
Hi Nicole, Have you ever considered making a button for Keep Calm Crafting On? I always link back to your blog, but I am afraid that people don't notice it because there is no button. Just a thought!

Thank you Sheila! I have considered it but I am not computer savvy at all. I was thinking of hosting a contest for making one but I haven't had the chance to get it together yet.
I love the colours you chose for your doll socks. So beautiful. I am sure they will be much appreciated.
Oh I ADORE them! I am so glad you found them easy too! I actually am too thick headed to follow the pattern in handmade beginnings. So I made up my own way of doing it. LOL
And you wanna hear something funny? Guess what Naia's first dress was made from? Strawberry fabric!!! Too funny! Our little ones need to have a strawberry photo shoot. I haven't posted any pics yet because my perpetual motion machine of a daughter is too fast to catch any.
My project this week is a bag for Z's horseback riding gear as a birthday gift and a book safe too. I am terrified to make the bag because now the Heather Ross ponies fabric is out of print and really expensive (I've been holding on to it for a long time!) and I am afraid to mess up. Sigh.

I think your projects are almost always part of my daydreams :)
They're very cute! I love sewing baby pants. So relaxing and stress free.
I have been wanting to make pants like those forever. I keep thinking I would maybe have time this summer, lol, but Looking ahead my summer is already getting eaten up! I am going to have to make time, they are just so cute!!
Love the socks colors! I just learned to sew a couple of days ago, and made skirts for my girls. It is very addictive!!
LOVE your fabric choices on his pants. So cute. :)
Those socks sound like the perfect gift! How wonderful! We can't wait for Mermouse to come to our house-I think I will enlist my boys for help-what a great idea!
Those strawberry picking pants are so cute!!
Those are lovely little trousers. Pants are quite a different thing here in England.
Love the colours on the socks!
And those pans are adorable.
My goodness, those little pants are to die for! I bet your kids look extra adorable picking strawberries in these outfits.
Those pants are really wonderful! What a great pattern.
Love the pants. I bet Baby L looks gorgeous in his new threads.
I love those pants. I am just sad that I have no small babes running around anymore that could wear them. I think they look fantastic. Thanks for the link to the sock pattern. I know a baby here that could use some socks.
Those pants are so cute!! :)
Oh man I love how your quick change pants turned out! I would love to make some for my little guy, but garment sewing sort of intimidates me. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and get sewing on them. I just love the pattern and love that there are alterations for cloth. Thank you so much for keeping up on this linky, I needed the inspiration to get crafting again after our big move. :)
