In Threes

Hello there! Boy have I missed you all! I didn't mean to disappear on you all like that. Trouble came knocking at our door and just like they say: it came in threes.
First our van died just as we were on our way to pick up Nana and Grandpa, then we all got sick and then to top it all off Kevin's job cancelled the air card internet service.

The van is now working fine, thanks to a helpful neighbor and new friend (silver lining), we are all on the road to recovery with Baby L's sickness lingering the longest and the internet?? Well, I am trying not to dwell on the internet issue right now. You might remember how we had to cancel the internet last year because we could no longer afford it, and that I have been using Kevin's work computer when he comes home at night to do my blog posts and general internet work. That can no longer happen since his job cancelled it for everyone. They didn't even inform him. Granted, he had the week off. We didn't know why the computer wasn't working all week, though. Kevin called one of the guys he worked with and found out what happened.

I could go on and on about this but I'd rather not. I am really quite foolish being upset over something like this, huh? We had to sign back up for internet service at out house on Saturday and we have it covered for four months. After that, I do not know. We really can't afford an internet bill. Wouldn't I be selfish and burdening my family to try to keep the internet for me to continue my blog? I had a small hope that maybe I could keep it going with sponsorship. I am not one to promote myself or anything like that. It took me a long time to even put up a sponsorship button on here so I am not so sure that would work out. sigh I truly love recording our lives on here and sharing with all of you, not to mention the community and friendships I have thanks to this little space. As silly as it may sound, I tend to look at old posts and reminisce quite often. It's such a reminder to me of the good yet crazy times. So the thought of not being able to continue this is upsetting to me. But, again, I am trying not to think about it right now, we have four months to figure it out. I also must remember that everything happens for a reason, the mystery is to find that reason. In the meantime I will just continue praying an answer will present itself to us. Blech, I am just so over dealing with/talking about such small, silly issues.

You know what, that was just far too much whining. Perhaps we should just forget about that last paragraph, ok?

But no matter what bad happens, there is always the good to even it out. I must always find the good!!

Fun with Nana and Grandpa visiting all the way from New York

Another trip to Tillamook to tour the creamery...

and play at the beach.

My God, look at that sky! There is so much beauty around us each moment of every day. We just need to stop and see it.

Until a wave took C by surprise and she did a face plant into the sand getting soaked from head to toe. This resulted in a very cold and upset C. Thankfully she had Daddy and Grandpa to comfort her and bring her smile back.

Cake decorating with the girls.

For those of you that asked in the last post this is the same cake recipe. It was the carrot cake recipe from the Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book
We 'frosted' it with cream cheese and topped it with edible moss and wooden toadstools made by the ever so talented Tricia at Prudence & Virtue. (If you haven't checked out her store and/or blog before, please do! She is a true sincere soul and I love all that we have in common. I have more to share on her later...) I did not get to partake in it due to the cream cheese but I am hoping it was good. The girls liked it at least.

A small birthday party at the park with friends.

complete with frog catching at the creek!

Some of you may have noticed Baby L along with big sister K over on the Living Crafts blog last week. My friend Fiona released a beautiful and oh so deliciously warm baby hat pattern (older child version here) modeled by my personal favorite models... I may be a bit biased, though. The hat is such a great knit. Baby L has been wearing to since he was about 2 months old and it continues to fit now. The pics up on LC show him wearing it at 3 months and 6 months.

Phew, that was a lot to show and say! I guess that's what happens when I am away for a week. I hope you all had a great week. We are looking forward to continuing adjusting to our new rhythm and celebrating Michaelmas this Thursday.
See you here tomorrow!

Maybe the grandparents can help with the internet? I am sure they love this way of keeping up with their grand kids. i know my parents really look to our blog to watch the kids grow from afar and would hate to see it go away. And you know., they're your parents (or your husbands?) family should always be there to help.

I hope you get it all squared away!

I'm sorry to hear about your internet. Darn! When the time comes; although inconvenient, perhaps you can prepare your posts ahead of time on the computer, then head over 2 or 3 times per week to a place with free wi-fi (around here, McDonald's, Panera Bread, and other cafes have free internet access). You can quickly upload your pictures and copy/paste your blog post into the blog perhaps after kiddos are in bed or after dinner? That way, with everything prepared in advance, you don't have to be gone too long for the uploading and linking stuff. Just a thought to help get you through. Or, you could get all your posts prepared during the week and go on a weekend once and upload them ALL. But put them on a publishing timer so they go live at the time and date of your choice...it will seem like you are posting each day, but really you'll have only had to go once to your wi-fi source. Best of luck!!!! You can do it! :)

I was going to say what boatbaby said up above. When we have trouble paying for something "big" or "extra" we sometimes ask for help as our holiday gift from the grandparents. None of us really need more stuff, right? So instead of stuff, maybe a bit of money toward something you need. And I would argue that internet access is becoming much like telephones...you really do almost NEED it, as so much happens online now, and it is such a vast source of quickly accessible information. Good luck!

Oh, I do love that first photo!
I hope you work the internet thing out...I know how your feel. I look back at old posts frequently, like going through a photo album, seeing how the kids have grown. Not to mention the fact that I would really miss your blog!

What a fun week you've had, even with van troubles, sickies, and internet issues. Megan said what I was going to suggest. That you make up your posts during the week, and then when you do have internet (I have been known to spend hours at the library for this) you can upload everything, then set a schedule for when they'll be posted. Posts might end up being a few days to a week behind what you are actually doing, but then there's also no pressure to get a post written every day. Hope everyone feels better soon!!!

Nicole, I'm so glad to see you back. I am ashamed to say I was worried : ) I checked in every day and no new blog post so a few prayers went your way. I am so happy that you liked the toadstool decorating kit. The edible moss came out perfect and I love them on your cake. Thank you for your kind words, though I may never meet you, you and your family are always part of my heart. For anyone who wants my blog address it is Crunchycatholicmomma.blogspot.com. Tricia

Oh my! I love that cake. I might have to borrow that decoration idea for my son's 3rd birthday this winter. :) Is that haystack rock in the background of one of those beach pictures?

So sad to hear about your internet problems (and other)... Would love to help in any way to keep your blog going... It has been such a source of inspiration for me! Even inspired me to start my own blog (would love for you to take a peek...). Would you consider adding a donation button again? I am wondering about the cake moss... It's great! Could you please give so more information about it? My girls would love a b-day cake like that! Great post and great pictures as always. I really hope you continue...

You might find that not posting gives you more time for your family and yourself.

Ok, totally new commenter here (but not new reader). I think whether the internet is affordable or not is one issue, but whether it is justifiable or not is something I want to speak to; this is part of your community. As a Mama to small kids, it can be hard to find time for meaningful adult interaction, and the web community becomes a sort of interaction that IS valuable to those who choose to partake, and can help to keep isolation and frustration at bay by keeping the world if not at your fingertips, at least somewhat accessible. It's not whining to fret about it, it's just considering your own needs, too, and part of being a great Mama is being kind to yourself!
That's my 2 cents worth. Plus, I like the reading here. :)

I'm a hopeless stalker, but I remember finding this a long time ago... http://store.netzero.net/s/landing?storesplit=reg...

It's free internet for up to 10 hrs per month. It's only at dial up speeds, but it might work. It's only for pcs though, they have another one that is only 9.95 a month. I'm not sure if they are in your area though. I find the internet a great source of money savings for our family, esp through using amazon or other online retailers. You have such lovely children, and I use your blog as a study break after class but before beginning to buckle down and start learning.
I <3 the hat. Thanks so much for the link!!!
