Since I have been spending the past few nights curled up on the couch with a book, I haven't been creating a whole lot. I did, however, get a few more coats up on the girls bedroom walls. I just put up coat eight yesterday and although I said I would only do eight I think it might be ten or twelve now. It really just looks like it needs some more of the red to warm it up a tiny bit more.
Here are a few bits and pieces I am currently working on.
rrrrrrriiip it, rrripp it
C's slippers are getting much too tight on her little feet so it's time for new ones. I thought I would knit her up a quick pair for her birthday and use up some leftover sweater yarn in the process. Malabrigo yarn is notorious for felting, which is perfect for this project. I like to use the baby slipper pattern from 'The Children's Year' but make them huge so I can felt them. I use size 9 or 10 needles and then double up with two strands of worsted weight yarn. In the picture above I am using the shocking pink and floral colorways and LOVE how they look together. Unfortunately, I did not have enough of the floral colorway leftover so I had to rip that out and start over. So now, I am just knitting them with one strand of the shocking pink. Hopefully they will come out ok and be sized right after felting. *Fingers crossed*
Hedgie's surprise
I am getting closer to being done with C's birthday dress, but I am running into a couple of problems. You see, I haven't sewn in a zipper invisibly since about 1997 and I have managed to completely forget how. I know that I know how to do this, I used to do it all the time but it's just taking quite awhile for it all to come back to me. To add insult to injury Betty, ahem - my sewing machine, (What? You don't name your sewing machine?!) is acting feisty and picking fights with me. We'll see who wins in the end...
I am not 100% sure about the hedgie trim yet. C absolutely adores hedgehogs and I know she would love it but I am wondering if it looks too busy with the fabric, or if it is just the right amount of cuteness.
Warm and cozy for K
Whenever I get a free moment and K is with Daddy or deeply involved in play I try to work on a couple of surprises I have for her new bedroom. I am hoping to have them done around the time the walls are done (which at this rate will be next Autumn...) so it will all be put together nicely for her. *Secret motive* If her room looks nice, warm and inviting then maybe she'll actually want to sleep in it, at least for a few hours each night.
What are you working on? I need some inspiration to get of my butt and back to working on these projects.
Happy creating!

Love all of these beauties...especially the embroidered sun!
I am working on:
a shawl for our Buddhist monk
another pair of fingerless gloves
a happy birthday banner
and need to start
a birthday sweater dress.
all in time :)
you are busy as usual..:)
i am trying desperately to finish up the girls blankets...many flaws but i think they are adding to the charm of the mismatched and not always lining up squares..teehee. we are remodeling the living room, so that will be done soon with new paint. the girls' room gets painted next weekend...yay! and i did finish up their pillow cases so they got to sleep with new fluffy pillows on soft new cases last night..:)

I've been the opposite. No reading, mostly creating in the evenings. Lots I wanted to get done before our trip. :) Love the hedgies with the dress. Good luck on the zipper! Give Betty some love (and maybe oil?) and she'll cooperate again. I can't wait to see K's surprise finished. I think with all the leftover car fabric I have from Finn's last 2 projects, I may make a surprise quilt for him. Fun stuff!
Thank you for sharing your projects. In my opinion the heddgie trim adds just the right amount of cuteness. We have a heddge hog lover at our house to. Good crafting (or reading),

Just the things I posted the other day. And one more elephant. Then I want to make some bunnies for the girls' easter baskets. And I have some snack bags a friend asked me to make. So things here and there keeping me busy!
Beautiful projects & the dress is just darling. I am working on some pilot caps in a merino-silk blend & knitting shoulder bags.
I was kind of in the same boat as you...funny how spring should have the opposite effect.
Anyway, I decided a quick and easy project was in order. I started needlefelting some bird nests with eggs to go inside. They helped me over the hump of my bigger projects.
Happy spring.
I love all the colors your using! Those slippers will be just beautiful as well as that surprise:-)
What stunning colors, I love the pop of blue in the zipper.
The sun embroidery is lovely.
I am planning on lazuring our daughter's room and I am working on a quilt, with embroidered patches, like the one you are making! In fact, I was inspired by the felted baby block with embroidery that you made for your friend! ;) Thank you for the inspiration! I can't wait to see the after shots of your girls' bedroom!
I love the dress! I think the hedgehog trim looks very nice.
My littlest one likes to get Hedgie's Surprise from the library.
I am working on a new embroidery, another apron, some needle felted eggs, and teaching myself how to crochet granny squares!
I love it all! My girls drool over anything pink! I also love the embroidered sun!
Adorable stuff. now I must go sew something! & it's late, but thanks for your bad-day post earlier this week. I was feeling very similarly last week, and it helps to know that there'll be days like that for other mamas too!
Definately the right amount of cuteness - those hedgehogs look fantastic!
Can't wait to see the finished walls!
oo, i will look for that pattern in the children's year! thanks! i'm doing some kitchen work and a bit of sewing!
the embroidered sun is beautiful, i love the things that you create : )
Honestly? I think the hedgehog ribbon is too much. Pick out the red of the pear instead? Save the hedgeghog for something special where it will stand out more.
I have two easter suprise gifts from the IFQ on the go, a stashbuster soulemama style knitted rug and oh so many projects in my head that haven't even begun yet.

i love spring knitting, peppered with sewing!
I'm having felt week over at my blog...that's what I'm up to...felting!
Wow, you are all working on some amazing things!! Thank you, thank you for the beautiful inspiration.
Betty finally came around and I have completed the zipper. Phew!
I just found your blog through Meg at Sew Liberated. Your projects are great. I was reading some of your older blogs and saw that you recently moved to Portland. Where did you move from? I live in SW Portland and moved here fairly recently also.
Recent projects I'm working on: a child's Montessori apron for my niece and restoring an old vintage quilt for a friend.... fun fun. :)

Marissa - Hi there! Isn't Meg wonderful???
We did indeed just move here last September. We traveled the Oregon Trail moving from Virginia. We are in SE Portland kind of close to Milwaukie.
Your projects sound wonderful! I would lvoeto know how to restore an old quilt. I have one that my great aunt, and great grandmother made that has quite a few tears in it.
Thanks for stopping by!!
