Currently going on in our home....

This is our last week with our best friends before they move to Fl so I will be away again this week but thought I'd put up a quick post, again.

Dollhouse play by K:

Finished knitting up socks for K with yarn I dyed myself. This was the 1st time I ever tried dying my own. I used kool-aid as dye in orange, pink lemonade and strawberry on o-wool 2-ply yarn.

I FINALLY got around to replacing that rocking horse's tail! If you remember this horse was a thrift store find last summer for a couple bucks. I bees waxed him way back then but only now did the tail. I used some O-wool yarn in chocolate.
you can see what his tail looked like originally here:

and yes k dressed herself!

I thought german shepherds....

were bred to protect sheep...

Not eat them!!!

Lesson learned, do not leave your child's toys out around your mischievous puppy.
Look at her trying to look innocent on her blanket on the couch.

Notice K's german shepherd toy is not present in the shepherd scene..tee hee.

I only had a small moment to post but I had to share that!

Adventures in Food & My Friend's Birthday

"We must remember that our primary task with little children is to protect them and to provide good models for them to imitate. Children take into themselves everything they experience in the environment. Whatever is in them will affect their physical and spiritual growth. By positively affecting your children, you are beginning to impact your grand children's lives!"- 'beyond the Rainbow Bridge'

I've been in a quoting mood. We started up a Waldorf book club of sorts on MDC. The first book we are reading is 'You are your Child's First Teacher'. Anyone who would like to join come on over! http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=285

YUM!

Yep, C is officially eating solids. On our trip up north she was really grabbing for our food at the table and getting quite upset when she couldn't have it. So I gave her a mashed banana in NY and she devoured it. I knew her time had come. How bittersweet for me.K didn't start until almost a year old. C is 8 months. I make all her food for her.

Some of her faves:

spinach

pumpkin

sweet peas

She also loves (but I haven't had the chance to photograph) avocados, sweet potatoes and corn.

My friend Michelle is having a birthday and in true Buddhist fashion she is giving away a present. (Although she is not a Buddhist, but it reminds me of Uncle Ry in 'zen Shorts'. Love it! Here's the link to her blog:

Waldorf Play

"...all children want to do is learn, which they try to do through their greatest learning tool, play."
-Joseph Chilton Pearce

With waldorf, children playing are left to imagine whatever they desire. The simplest things become so much more in the blink of an eye. K has quite the imagination on her. It's so much fun to watch her play.

The other day just some simple square cuts of cloth transformed before her eyes making her a beautiful and happy robin.

The play cloths are a staple of her play, used every day and yet everyday they are transformed into something new.

Some of her other favorite toys are acorns, shells, pinecones and river rocks. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many different things each one of those has become in her play.

"What children touch and what touches them is important. In a waldorf early childhood program, toys are made of natural materials, such as wool, cotton, wood and silk. Each of these has something unique to teach children about the world around them."
-Barbara J. Patterson 'Beyond the Rainbow Bridge'

Waldorf isn't about the expensive (but, very nice!) toys,it's about finding joy in the simplest pieces of nature.

A wonderful mama posted recently some of her reasons for choosing waldorf. You can find it here:

It really is a great read!

Finding our Rhythm Session two: Waking Verse

Continuing on with our Waldorf learning and incorporating it into all aspects of our daily life...

We have our mealtime verse, our bedtime verse and many songs and verses for activities throughout the day BUT we have yet to pick out our waking/greeting the day verse. I am torn, again, between three of them. Please tell me your thoughts and opinions.

1.
Early in the morning
Oh hear the rooster call.
He struts about the farmyard
'Good morning creatures all',
He flaps his wings and sings to you
'Wake up now, cock-a-doodle-doo'.

2.
Fairies dancing on the lake,
In my dreams before I wake,
Fairies fade in sunlight rays,
Golden morning lights the day.

3.
Good morning dear earth
Good morning dear sun
Good morning dear trees and flowers every one.
Good morning dear beasties
And birds on the tree.
Good morning to you
Good morning to me.

In dreamland, even after being taken off my back!

K and Daddy on walk observing the beauty of nature.
