Beautiful weather, painting and loving life

The weather has been beautiful here the past couple of days; not too cold but not too warm either. K has been enjoying this. Yesterday we took advantage of the weather when the rest of her wet-on-wet painting supplies came in the mail and we went outside to paint. We also brought Midnight outside to enjoy the weather, but he just ended up being yelled at by birds nearby and ran inside. Our other kitty came out and joined us instead. She sat in the garden and watched us.

I am waiting on some knitting needles before I can make K's hat that goes with her scarf and mittens, so in the meantime, I am knitting Little Sprout some longies for when s/he is first born. I am about halfway done with those now. The picture posted is from a few days ago when I finished the waistband.

I took a picture this morning out of our living room window. Not the best picture, but just look at how beautiful the tree in front of the window is!! All the orange and reds in those leaves...Wow!

Lantern Festival at Kinderhaus November 10th

We attended our first Martinmas/Lantern Festival this year at Kinderhaus Toys in Williamsburg. It was tons of fun and really just a beautiful thing to do. We arrived a little early so I could go to Knitting Sisters (a few stores away in the same 'village') to get some knitting needles I needed to make longies for little sprout, but Kevin and K went straight to Kinderhaus.

The first thing K saw was the yummy hot apple cider (she LOVES hot apple cider) and cookies galore. She was so caught up with all the yummies she hardly noticed what was going on around her. The store was filled with kids of all ages playing and getting ready to make their lanterns.

The kids had to go in 2 separate batches (there were 15 kids total and not enough room for everyone to make their lanterns at the same time). K was in the first batch and even had a seat right next to her best friend Fiona. I helped her make her lantern while Kevin took pictures. She picked out pink kite paper for her lantern and colored on it a little bit, but really just wanted to eat more cookies. After she colored on it, I glued it together, and again she was too busy eating to help LOL. Once it was all done we moved out of the way so another little girl could sit in our seat, and K went back to eating and playing. Then, when everyone was done, a violin player got everyones attention and we lit our lanterns and practiced the song one time inside before going for our walk/parade.
Lantern song Translated from German

I'm going with my lantern and my lantern goes with me.
Above us shine the stars; and under shine we.
A sea of light like Martin's might,
Rabammel, Rabammel, Rabumm.

I'm going with my lantern and my lantern goes with me.
Above us shine the stars; and under shine we.
How sweet the sound, when everyone sings,
Rabammel, Rabammel, Rabumm.

I'm going with my lantern and my lantern goes with me.
Above us shine the stars; and under shine we.
My light is out, I'm going home.
Rabammel, Rabammel, Rabumm.

I'm going with my lantern and my lantern goes with me.
Above us shine the stars; and under shine we.
A sea of light like Martin's night,
Rabammel, Rabammel, Rabumm.

Then we all went outside as the violinist played the music for us and we sang and walked. I finished knitting K's mittens the night before so she wore them for the first time during the Lantern parade. It was pretty chilly out, so it was a good thing I finished them in time.

We took about a 15 minute walk. It was at about 5:00 at night, so it was getting dark, but not too dark yet. After the walk, we went back to the store and K played and chowed down on some more cookies while we talked with Tiffeni and D'Anne, making some wintertime plans.

It was a fun day!

Fall Festival at Blue Bird Gap Farm last Saturday

Our local farm had a big fall festival last weekend and we went, spending 4 hours there! Yikes!! K was having so much fun that I lost track of time.

She decorated her own pumpkin, went on a hay ride, rolled a pumpkin, painted a rock, made a pinecone into a bird feeder, made a rosemary garland, met some alpacas and learned how to felt their wool. I think I had the most fun with the alpaca felting LOL. The woman that was there for the demonstration has her own alpaca farm and homeschooled her kids, so it was really great talking to her.

The highlight of the day for K, though, was her very first pony ride!!! She was beyond excited. We had to go twice. She's already got her Mother's love of horses in her. I promised her that when she is old enough, we'll start riding lessons. She was excited about that. She got to ride the pony wearing pink when we took these pics (D'Anne's husband was kind enough to take them for us). She was concentrating while she rode the pony so she has some pretty funny looks on her face. I walked beside her just in case she needed me.

K and Fiona had fun being monkeys trying to climb fences. K got to hear the turkeys 'sing', as she calls it, when they gobble. She LOVES the turkeys and does a really funny gobble sound herself.

Very belated birthday photos and Nana's visit

First are pictures of K and her Nana at Kinderhaus taking a wet-on-wet painting class. This is one of K's favorite things to do, so I thought it would be a nice present for her to do it with her Nana. She had so much fun and made lots of paintings that are hanging up in her playroom. The one Nana painted for her is hanging up in the playroom as well. In the second picture you can see (L to R) K, Tiffeni (giving the class)and Nana.

Next are pics of K in Nana's hotel hot tub. It was too cold at night to swim in the outdoor pool, so the indoor hot tub was much better. Funny, being a hot tub you'd think the water would be hot but it was much colder than any bath water we've ever been in!

Lastly are pics from K's birthday party.

First up is K's birthday ring and her trying to blow out the candles. She enlisted the help of her Nana and her best friend, Fiona.

Once they got the candles out it was time for cake. K and Fiona ate at K's table. That was the first time she ate there so she was excited about that.
I have yet to stain and finish the table and chairs. The morning sickness knocked me out for 2 months this time.

Next is K playing with her doll house under the playcloth wrapping. She didn't realize she could open it I guess LOL. Fiona came to help her out.

K and Fiona decided that the wooden veggies (eggplants) she got worked great as phones and called each other. They had very separate conversations with one another. It was pretty funny to watch and hear!

The next photo was the present that was the hit of the party. It was from Uncle Mark, Aunt Theresa and cousins Kimberly, Kelly and Katie. It's a toy that basically teaches her about gravity. Her and Fiona thought it was the best thing ever!!

Sadly, shortly after her party, Nana had to fly back home to NY. We went to see her off. K even wore her new 'Banana shoes' (as she calls them) that Nana got her. We were all sad to see her go. Her visit was the best birthday present K got!

Pumpkin washing fun

These pics are from a few weeks ago after we went pumpkin patch picking. K felt the need to wash her pumpkins. It was still pretty warm out so I set her up outside with a bucket of water and a rag. She had so much fun! We have pictures of the pumpkin patch fun too, but D'Anne took those for us b/c my camera is acting up, so as soon as I get them I will post them!

I also added a pic taken that night of K trying to eat her dinner when her furry sister decided to join her.

Autumn time fun!

FINALLY it's getting nice outside with brisk air and fallen leaves. I am so happy that summer is over. I realized this year that I absolutely can no longer stand the heat. I need a nice cold climate!

Here are a couple pictures of K's Autumn-time nature table. She did the artwork hanging behind it. It was a beautiful day out and we decided to grab a basket and hunt for leaves in the back yard. She got tons of them and glued them to cardstock.

We also hung leaves from her playstand's canopy to represent the falling leaves of the season.

Next weekend we are going to Williamsburg. We have a free weekend pass at Colonial Williamsburg and, now that it's nice and cool out, we thought we'd take advantage and go. We also have an event at Kinderhaus Toys in Williamsburg later that day. It's the Lantern Festival. We are making fall lanterns and then placing a candle in them and doing a little parade. K is looking forward to this very much and has been singing the lantern song with me
The sunlight fast is dwindling.
My little lamp needs kindling,
Let your beans shine far,
into the dark night,
Little lantern guard me
with your precious light.

She is also in love with this simple poem right now and knows about half of the words and acts them out.

Grey squirrel, grey squirrel swish your bushy tail
Grey squirrel, grey squirel swish your bushy tail
Wrinkle up your little nose
Hold a nut between your toes
Grey squirrel, grey squirrel swish your bushy tail

I also have to say that K has decided to really start her potty learning. It's been 9 days now of her using her potty without me even asking her to. When we are out she still uses a diaper. She seems to be afraid of the big pottys. She's doing great! We are proud of her!
