Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

Where did my sunshine go? As you can see it was a gray storm cloud type of day.

I currently have a semi-last minute birthday gift for C on my needles. She has been asking me to knit her some fingerless gloves since I finished my Downton Abbey ones. I thought her birthday was the perfect time to grant her wish. I knew the perfect yarn to knit them with, too - the skein we dyed with Indian Amaranth last fall that C quickly claimed for herself. As you can see the pink mellowed out quite a bit from my previous photos but I actually like it even more this way.

p.s. I decided to make things simpler and just shorten the name of the link up to Crafting On. Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on} just felt too long and slightly complicated.

Whirlwind

escape to the park
cutest overalls
warm enough for popsicles play play play
Today started out like all the others - wake, morning chores then homeschooling. That is where normal ends. Kevin had the day off from work and he and I spent all our time looking at houses our realtor sent us on the computer. We ended up finding a fixer upper in our price range. Before we knew it we had plans to leave tomorrow on a whirlwind trip to Oregon to look at it and place an offer before it sold. Then late this evening our realtor called us back and said it needed too much work and our loan wouldn't be approved. I am slightly relieved that we don't have to leave all of the sudden now but also disappointed. Back to the drawing board. Something better will come our way.

can't wait to read this
On a different note: I am so excited to read this book! It has been sitting on my desk for about a month now (hence the old photo) and I have only been able to find the time to skim through it here and there but I can not wait to dive into it. Speaking of knitting and reading, I wanted to take a moment to say hello and welcome to all the new visitors from Yarn Along. It is so nice to have you here! I am thrilled Ginny sent you my way hope to see you each week for Crafting On. Okay, back to the homeschooling and house hunting madness!

I apologize but I don't actually have any photos of my current WIPs this week (It is becoming harder to find time to knit amidst the move) but I can share something that recently came off the needles. I had the pleasure of test knitting this sweet little hat for my friend Sophie and I shared the bottom image of it on Instagram last week. Well, Sophie *just* released the pattern so I thought I would share it over here on the blog for crafting on. It is absolutely adorable, isn't it?! I think I foresee more of them in my future. You can find it here.
An update on Baby F - I am happy to say he is on the road to recovery! He is still clingy and not quite himself but he is feeling a lot better. His fever is gone and now he just has a runny nose. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers for him!

p.s. - I should add my photos are before the hat was blocked so the pixie point isn't quite as perfect as it should be.

Almost done with baby gift number two. Two more to go. I love that I have so many local friends expecting right now.

On a side note - thank you for your words of encouragement! Good things are just around the corner, I know they are. We just have to make it through!

When it rains

...it pours!
How about we just not discuss where we will live or what job Kevin will have because I do feel that my brain might just explode...sick baby sick baby IMG_7840

-My poor sweet baby boy has been sick for the past couple of days. Not sure what it is that he has exactly but he is miserable. Sleepless nights with high fevers and clingy days resulting in sweet cuddles but nothing getting done (and boy is time ticking until we move!).

-The brakes on our van were completely shot so we had them fixed (a nice unexpected cost) and then the next day as I drove to church I noticed that our windshield is cracked. Now to look into getting that repaired.

-One of our kitties somehow managed to partially knock out two of her teeth (we think a cat fight when we were not at home) which resulted in an overnight stay at the vet and mouth surgery.

-Our house inspection is coming up and we are nowhere near ready. Normally something like this wouldn't have me in a tizzy but if you knew what the civilian company that owns these military homes was like, trust me you would be just as anxious as I am. I kid you not, one of their negative reviews (and they were all negative) said be prepared to give up your first born child and every penny you own when you move out.

-And...okay, I will just stop there. I don't want to be a downer.

But even with all of that rain the sun was shining down on us today. As long as we stand together we are strong and will get though it. I know we are climbing that mountain right now and once we get to the top we'll be able to see everything clearly.

Working on a baby gift with some of my black bean dyed yarn. It has faded into this really pretty slate blue now. I love it.

Purging

IMG_7992 notice that hand! Please notice C's hand on her baby brother. It just melts my heart! time to declutter and purge The sad state of my office shelves

I am feeling rather exhausted but accomplished from our weekend. There was lots of time spent working on plans, back up plans and back up to the back up plans for our future. A smaller home will absolutely be in the future for us. I look forward to downsizing even more. I am feeling a bit less terrified and more hopeful and excited for what is to come.

The whole family was motivated to declutter and purge all weekend long. The children pleasantly surprised me with how much they wanted to get rid of. They have inspired me to crack down on my unreasonable craft supplies. I mean seriously look at that madness above! Not to mention how unorganized it is. Granted I haven't actually started yet (I was focused on purging books and fixing up the back yard all weekend) but hope to this week. I already know I will have a hard time purging my fabric stash but it just needs to be done!

Ashes to Ashes

On Ash Wednesday Glory!

Just popping in quick to say thank you for all of your responses on my absent post. I am still replying to you all but wouldn't you know it - right after that post Kevin was motivated to start work on his resume (the finally hour is drawing near!).  I have been happily staying off the computer to make way for him. Once we know he has secured a job, I think a lot of our anxiety will disappear and we can just focus on the move itself.
