Yes, I am keeping you in suspense just a bit longer...
Okay, remember the news I wanted to share with all of you but was waiting on the photographs to go with it? Well, since those photos are forever gone I took the opportunity to have Kevin snap some photos of me with my super huge belly (something I had been wanting done anyways!) to go with the news. I also took advantage of the opportunity and wore my two favorite sweaters to be photographed (finally!!). As you have probably surmised, I am not a fan of being in front of the camera so photographs of myself are rare. Although I realize I need to have more of them, especially for my children to look back on. I just feel super self conscious and like I would be perceived as conceited or something, and good gracious nothing would be further from the truth. I don't know how those people who take/post selfies everyday can do it! Perhaps it's my lack of confidence in my looks. Anyways, I just went through with it.

Of course having this guy make me laugh uncontrollably as he takes my picture helps me to feel a little less self conscious:
testing the lighting and adjusting settings for Kevin to take my pics

*Ahem* Anyways, back to the news. A couple of months back, right before the computer crashed, I had to go in for an ultrasound. During the ultrasound we found out what the baby was but we asked the technician not to say it out loud because we wanted to surprise our children (who were with us, of course). She saved the image and put it in an envelope for us to open later on. Kevin couldn't wait and opened it shortly thereafter and then after the visit, as we were doing our grocery shopping, he spilled the beans to me.

Since this little blessing was long awaited and much anticipated by the children (and us!), we wanted to make a big deal out of sharing the news with them. We decided that the next day we would do a gender reveal party for the children. Kevin took the kids to a park while I made a special cake that would reveal the gender of the baby when the children cut into it. I dyed the batter the appropriate color with natural food coloring, baked the cake and then covered the evidence with frosting. When they got back home we had our own little family celebration and then we let K cut into the cake. When they saw the blue inside they all got very excited, Little L most of all!

A baby BOY!!

So we are having another boy to bring a bit of balance to our family :) I am looking forward to his arrival (but please little guy, let's wait until February when you are due!).

For those interested, knitting details:

Campside Cardi - rav notes here. I have been wearing this sweater non-stop since it came off my needles. I love how cozy it is and look forward to it's comfort during the postpartum period. I had a couple of mods to the pattern which are noted on ravelry but the biggest one being the YOs. I knit them TBL instead to make the holes smaller.

February Lady Sweater - Lots of mods and rav notes here. I love how this knit up. Of course it fits better without a big belly under it, but that's okay. I may go back and lengthen the sleeves a bit at some point but otherwise I am completely in love with it! Buttons by Wooly Moss Roots and yarn by Luna Grey Fiber Arts

Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

I ended up with a bit of leftover yarn from C's Bulle so I decided to knit the baby a little Puerperium sweater. I had to capture the knitting with the cutest blanket ever. Sweet Natalie recently gifted us with it and we are in love. You can never go wrong with birds in our family. Thank you again Natalie!!

What are you working on? Happy creating!

On the third day of Christmas, the rest of our Christmas lights went up. Kevin had put up a few on Christmas Eve as a surprise for the children to come home to after the pageant/Mass.Wow! What a hit that was. We have never done lights before but the children have always wanted us to. Such a sweet, simple act of love for them from their Daddy.

This year both C and K made knitted gifts. C knit a sheep for Little L (which happened to be part of our handwork curriculum, too). She topped it off with what may very well be the most awesome button ever - a hammerhead shark custom made by our dear friends as Wooly Moss Roots. Could it be any more perfect?! I actually have a whole set of those buttons to knit something for L with. I am just deciding on the perfect pattern.

K finished up her very first test knit cowl and gifted it to C. She made a doll sized version as well but she just needs to sew on the buttons. She is hoping to finish it and give it to C before Epiphany. She had particular buttons in mind for the cowl (the Star of David) and had me ask Taryn (of Wooly Moss Roots) if they could make such a thing. As you see Taryn and Jeff totally nailed it and made K’s buttons just as she had envisioned! Thank you Taryn for letting her test your pattern and for the amazing buttons to go with it!

I'll share more of our handmades soon - hopefully to include the girls' finished Bulles!

Still working on Christmas knitting that won't be ready by Christmas. Perhaps they'll be finished and gifted by Epiphany though. I am really liking the pink for C's Bulle pockets with the turquoise blue. I know C will like that, too.

Anyone else down to the wire with their crafting?

Where to begin? I didn't mean to be absent. I was trying to dig myself out of a molehill. Last week had a few highs and lows. The lows, of course, were trivial but sometimes in the moment that can be hard to see. Actually, come to think of it - I can't even remember what had me so down. Well except for one thing. We finally got around to bringing our computer that crashed in to a repair shop. I honestly didn't care what happened to the computer itself as long as my photos were rescued. I hadn't backed them up in a few months and there were a few very important ones I really didn't want to lose. On a side note - let my mistake be a lesson for all of you...Go back up your photos right now! When we dropped it off the repairman said that he had seen this type of crash a lot and that it was caused by the new Windows 10 pushing itself onto computers. We never uploaded it but our computer was indeed trying to. After a brief look he saw that it did somehow upload onto our computer and fried the hard drive. Thanks Microsoft. He was confident though that he would be able to rescue my photos. That was all I needed to hear.

Well, the next day, and $120 (that we didn't really have) later we got a call saying that our hard drive was beyond repair and the photos could not be saved. That's that. They are gone. I had been waiting on those photos to share some big news but now the moments, memories and my children's sweet faces and reactions are lost forever. I admit to sobbing and feeling sorry for myself for awhile after hearing this but have now come to accept it and move on, realizing it was my own fault and that it had to have happened for a reason.

I am just now starting to get more into the Advent spirit. Just in time for the Christmas season, right? We have been decorating here and there. I think the Christmas parties and pageant practice (all three of my children are in the church pageant this year!) have helped. I am desperately behind on mailing out cards and I doubt I will finish my Christmas knitting in time but it's all okay. I am being a lot more gentle with myself this year. Perhaps our friends and family will appreciate celebrating the twelve days of Christmas with us by receiving their cards after the first day of Christmas?? One can hope.
