WIP Wednesday : February

A sweet little blanket from Project Linus. Pattern & my notes here.

When you hear February, what comes to mind? Do you think of a loved one, a month, a holiday, or perhaps what the weather is like where you live? Do certain smells and tastes tingle your senses like a lit beeswax candle or hot apple cider? Do memories of your childhood come rushing back or maybe more recent memories of doing things with your own children?

Think about it and then please share what February means to you. I would love to read what everyone thinks of and, in fairness, I'll share what February means to me on Friday.

I think of muddling through the last worst part of winter. I think of slush. I think of my birthday. I think of where Zach and I can run off to in hopes of escaping the winter blues aboard the boat. Not all that positive I am afraid. It can also seem like a cozy time to watch teh days grow longer and enjoy a last month of indoor time before we burst out for the rest of the year.
Curious where this is going...

February brings to mind our annual sleigh ride. Every February for the past 7 years, I've organized this sleigh ride for our homeschool kids. We go to this wonderful farm nearby and get onto the sleigh, piled high with wool blankets, and head out into the woods. The horses have bells attached to them, so there is always a round of "jingle bells" and the kids all take turns sitting next to the driver and his dog! After our ride, we go into their home, (which they open up to us), and are greeted with homemade apple cider, hot chocolate, cookies and one year, hot cinnamon buns! This sleigh ride is now our February tradition, the children have come to expect this ride to happen, and truly, it is the highlight of our long Canadian winter!

where to begin....feb. is a month of anticipation for me....the new year is underway, the rush of the holidays becoming a memory...winter is bitterly cold, but cozy. thoughts of the lush green of spring tease me every day...each day is one day closer to rebirth and growth....excitement builds for the appearance of warm weather... :) excited to learn your 'secret'....

Sitting by fires, being tucked up warm and cozy, lots of cuddling together and reading and knitting. And well, babymooning ;) Since 3 of my 4 we're born in Jan. or Feb., in my mind, I really do associate that time of year with little babies laying across my chest. It's such a great time of year to just all snuggle up and just be happy with a quiet life at home together.

February used to mean a cold and dreary month to get through on the way to spring. Until last February, when our little laughing, smiling sunshine was born and shone his bright light on a rather dark month. Now it will forever be the month of his birth and babymoon. It is a wonderful month to have a baby :)

The blanket looks lovely! Hmmm...February is icy slush, often gray with early evenings. Curled up in a blanket sitting by a fire. Lots of knitting and hot cocoa. Toward the end of February there are peeks of green shoots for the early spring bulbs emerging.

snow & short, cold days.

In February we are all about celebrating being halfway through winter, we sure do need to gather our strength though, cause in these mountains spring is still a long way off.

We celebrate the growing light that is finding it's way back to us!

I knew you were considering this a Work in Progress :)

XOXO

February here in central AZ is a little different. No snow, but it usually is cold and rainy. We love to snuggle in front of the fire, but it is also the season for preparing the garden for planting. The blood oranges are at thier peak and marmalade must be made before it's too late! And of course, there is Valentine's Day. We spend the first two weeks of February with the kitchen table completely covered with pretty paper, stickers, lace, doilies, wax seals, pens and ink, fabric, flowers, ribbon, stamps, and more while we craft handmade valentines for all our loved ones.

February is my birthday, my baby's birthday, my dad's birthday. Valentine's Day always brings with a little taste of spring, before winter returns for another few weeks into the end of March. February is a time to start projects after spending January recovering from the holidays. A time of skies in varied shades of gray. Tea and woolens, and light lasting a bit later into the evening. A time for planning and dreaming about the spring and garden. It's a short month. It feels short! Money is always tight in February for us. February is a time I take note of the changes in my children over the past year. I make them Valentines and try to write personal things about their growth and abilities in them, so I find I really LOOK at them in February. Crocuses. Oh, and mud!

February holds a special place in my heart...and the 16th will never be the same...a birthmom placed a baby boy in my arms and I became a mom because of her gift of love.

For me February means enjoying the last of the cozy days. And around here we really love Valentines Day and celebrating our family love.

im gonna go out on a limb and say I agree with Waldorf Mama!
I also ravelry stalked you (hey i'm nosey!) and now im really suspicious.

I love that blanket!

but about Feb. Since I live in Florida, and really don't like it, Feb is one of my most un-favorite times of year. I see everyones pictures of snow and winter and I am sitting in air conditioning. Hopefully it will change, or we will have a winter like last year!

The expectation of spring...being SOOO tired of winter. Also...little heart shaped sugar cookies....little paper heart cut outs hanging from my chandelier in the kitchen....smiling faces and "I love you."

February= snow, and really bad weather...
But I guess feb. will be a good month for you...

I knitted this exact same blanket for my newborn, and I cannot tell you how happy I am with it. I hope you love it just as much for your family that I do with my new LO. :)

I think of new beginnings. Spring around the corner, and for me both a February baby (my Keats), and one born the first of March (Larkspur.) A lovely distraction they were, to pull me through those last cold weeks of winter.

Hi, I love your blog but have never commented. The February prompt inspired me. February is...anniversaries, Valentine's Day crafts, sunlight peeking into windows from the South, the last-snow-of the-year-month. I love Feb. and the change brings every year. I think SouleMama said it is the "longest shortest month" and I couldn't agree more! Can't wait to see what you post tomorrow!

Paper doilies and pink construction paper made into Valentines with lots of glue on them...red lipstick, woodstove on, love letters, planning my garden, celebrating my parents' wedding anniversary and my birthday. I really love February. All the wonders that come with being Aquarian...and meeting other February babies!
