My sweet, tiny baby boy has a procedure on Tuesday and it is all I can think about. It will help him immensely but I know it is going to be hard on the both of us. You see, one of the reasons for his colic and tummy issues is that he has lip and tongue ties. After dealing with our insurance company for a month, he is finally getting them taken care of. From what I have been told, the procedure itself isn't too bad but the healing time and stretches afterwards are rather excruciating.

Can I please ask for your prayers to help Baby F through this. I start to cry just thinking about it. I am going to need to be strong for my little guy but I have a feeling I will be an emotional wreck. I have been warned of a possible nursing strike for 48 hours after the procedure and the misery that comes with doing the daily exercises to stretch his lips and tongue. It's not going to be easy, this I know.

Lord, give me the strength.

Don't forget he will have no memory of it all...only the mom remembers these things. Hang in there.

oh momma, i feel your pain. We had our older girls revised at 3.5 years and at 6m old, this baby had both ties revised at 4 days old... so much easier and she was calmly sticking her tongue out exploring the new freedom. You'll do ok. He'll do better. And it is worth it!

Oh poor thing! You have to be strong Nicole,especially for him.... I know it is easier said than done. But think that he will be better soon and this will be just like a bad dream. We will pray for him and keep your family in our hearts. Much love from us( Francesca ,Martin and James )

Good luck mama! My son had both his ties revised when he was 16 days old. Stretches are hard, unfortunately :( If you have time look up Dr. Bobby Ghaheri on Facebook. He is very knowledgeable about ties and breastfeeding and has great advice. When I had my son revised 3 years ago it was recommended to stretch quite aggressively, but I've heard that might not be the current recommendation anymore.

Are you sure he must go through this? There might be another answer. Have you thought that maybe your digestion leads to milk that is not easy for baby's digestion? Have you considered Probiotics?

Oh no- poor baby boy, poor mommy... I promise to pray for you both, Nicole. Maybe it will be hard for you and your cute little baby- but in the end it will help him, I hope, and all the bad times will be forgotten. But right now it's just cruel for you and your boy, I know... Be hugged from far away. You're such a good and loving mother, you will be strong for him and give him all the love and shelter he'll need in this moment.

A friend and her baby just (about a month now) had this done. It was rough as baby was upset after for a while, but she is able to eat so much better now. Will be praying for you.

My middle child had severe tongue tie. We didn't know it until she was 3 months old. By the time we got it figured out and she had her procedure I realized she cried all the time because she was hungry. The procedure went well, it was super fast and she was able to effectivly nurse immediately after for the first time in her life. We didn't have any issues with recovery and within minutes her life had changed and we were all so much happier. This will be the best time for you and it will go easier than you are expecting. You must be so worried, Nicole. My little boy (2 days younger thanF) had his tongue and lip ties cut by laser when he was 10 days old. He was uncomfortable for 2 or 3 days afterwards but nursed much better immediately. I didn't do any stretching or massaging after the first couple of days as he was very upset during those and he has healed really well.
Best of luck to you all, it is worth the worry.

I have never heard of such a thing but after reading the comments, it must be common. I will certainly pray for baby F as I can't imagine how awful the stretching could be.

I'm so sorry to hear he's having such a time, so young, but also glad to know your docs know exactly what the trouble is and can fix it fairly easily. It sounds like you can expect a fast recovery. Just imagine, eating--don't we just take the ability to do this for granted?! How frustrating it must be for him. But in another day or two, it'll be so much easier for him. What a great thing!
