The crawling phase is so important in development. It is referred to quite a bit in Waldorf early childhood education (and even later on). If I remember right, it was even asked about in K's school application. We can learn a lot about a child from this time period in their life. I do believe Baby L's crawling time is nearly at an end, though.

Last week we moved the girls' table and chairs set outside on to our porch for the summer, opening up their side of the kitchen for play. That must have been the moment Baby L was waiting for. He used the counter wall to pull himself up and then he would take a few steps and fall. Sometimes he landed on his cloth diapered bottom and other times he would end up sprawled out on the floor. But no matter what he would crawl back over to that counter and try again. Wobbly as he was, he built up enough confidence in himself to take off doing circles and laps over and over again. Of course C felt the need to show me that she could walk too (In case I forgot!) and would follow behind Baby L mimicking his every move - falling when he did and crawling when he did. This began on Friday and now it has become his daily routine. I have a feeling that there will be a toddler amongst us very soon. Baby L will be 17 months old later this month. He sure did take his sweet time with this milestone, but I am so grateful that he did.

Perseverance is a virtue and Baby L definitely has it. He didn't get it from me, that's for sure, but I like to think that I am changing. How could I not with such strong examples as his?!

I apologize for the comments that disappeared. For some reason my commenting system in this post converted back over to blogger in the middle of the night. Not sure why?? So all of you that commented using Intense Debate earlier last night - your comments are gone :(

I am continually amazed at all that is accomplished in the early years. So much growth and persistence. Congrats to Baby L

He is such a cutie, Nicole! Little ones do have quite a bit of perseverance to accomplish all they do at that age, don't they. I've read studies on the correlation between crawling and early reading as well. It's fascinating how physical and mental skills are connected that way.

PS. Thanks for your kind words on my blog over the last few days! <3

TOO sweet! I love the position you caught him in on that 6th shot - he looks like he's surfing. Too much cuteness in this post. :D
