It's a Beautiful Day!

Thursday was the warmest day here since last September. Portland was in the upper 70s which meant our little mountain was in about the lower 70s. It felt like a heat wave! We spent the entire day outside in pure bliss.

We read The Flowers' Festival for the 100th time this week. K wanted to learn how to curtsy like Madame Pansy so I taught her and she hasn't stopped doing it since.

The skirt she is curtsying in was one of my Kid's clothes week challenge items. My friend Sarah sent me some fabric and patterns last month and when K saw this knit flower fabric she immediately said she wanted a long skirt made out of it. Wednesday morning I grabbed my Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt pattern and with her help sewed this up quick for her. It's now her favorite play skirt. She cracks me up with her choices of tops to wear with it. She knows nothing about the 1960s or hippies but by her choice of outfits in these photos you'd swear she was an expert!

We set up a canopy in the front yard (the only place the sun hits) and that became the girls' art studio for drawing, painting and even braiding blades of grass together.

Brother wind kept trying to blow their canopy away, though!

Paw Paw requested a few belly rubs...

How could we deny that handsome face?!

A ladybug friend stopped by for a visit and played with both girls.

What a magical day! C was wiped out and crashed in the shade. Napping outdoors are always the best, don't you think?

Wishing you all an enchanting weekend!

I hope we get some of that nice weather today. We're in Upstate NY and the weather has been disappointing.

Love the canopy! The perfect place for an art studio. :) Elizabeth has so many of those Lazy Days skirts. It's so fun to make them in many different patterns!

What a lovely blog post! How wonderful to be having warmer weather. The sun is shining here too today, not so cold as the last few days:) I love the long skirt you made your little one, it is so pretty. We also enjoy setting up a canopy in the garden, it leads to hours of play...

it does look like a beautiful day indeed. It's cold, wet and windy here, not in the least spring like, so to see your beautiful setting and hear about a lovely day outside is bliss.

The low 70's? I wish it was that here! We are at 80 right now (10am) and it's going to get hotter! Being outside is a chore and it will only get worse.

Lovely pictures. M would love to play with your girls under that canopy. Looks dreamy.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy our beautiful sun break! I was thinking yesterday that it was perfect weather for sitting in the grass by a lake. Unfortunately, I had to work. Looks like the girls had fun!

So nice, Nicole! I really want to make and set up some kind of outside canopy for my two little ones. I am going to have to be creative though, because we have no trees big enough to hold one.

I love that we are getting sunshine in OR again. The canopy idea is great i might have to steal that idea. Put one up in our tiny yard.

Oh how wonderful that you got to spend the entire day outside! When Chloe was much younger she also learned about curtsys from Madam Pansy!
K looks beautiful in her skirt, great fabric. I am going to go check out my sewing circle now, I am not good at things like that so look for me if I can't find you!
Happy weekend! xo

It was an incredible day in Portland, indeed. My little girls are big now, but I love seeing your girly-girl pics. So cute.

BTW - your profile pic on mysewingcircle.com put a huge smile on my face - seeing that chubby hand near the pincushion - precious!

Thank you all! C actually stopped taking naps last November but just passed out on the blanket from all the day's excitment.
We were told our sunny weather is leaving us next week, but it was great while it lasted!

I hope you all had a beautiful weekend!!

I love all of your treasures! Especially the canning jars (I collect blue ones, but the ones with the glass lids are a favorite too), and the linens, and...
Glad you had your special day! Looking forward to the sewing update...
