WIP Wednesday : Spring Babies

Another little something for my friend's baby

I have been working along steadily on presents for my friends baby. I just started the above project last night on a whim. I think she'll like the colors.

I finished up the project I was working on for her last week over the weekend. Both of my girls and at least one cat have tried to steal it, so I think I might need to make one for us eventually, too.

I have been trying to squeeze in some time to work on C's birthday sweater, too. That way I am not trying to knit it up last minute like I have been known to do in the past. This is my first attempt at lacework and I don't know what took me so long. I am loving it, but I have learned to only work on it at night because I have already lost track of where I was at in the lace pattern a couple of times from being distracted.

Lastly, I thought I'd share my girls WIP project from yesterday. They rolled beeswax candles for Candlemas, and had so much fun doing it. I had some issues, though, with the beeswax cracking because it was too cold. Any suggestions on how to remedy this for next year? Our house is on the cooler side at about 60 degrees in the day.

What are you making? Happy creating!

We use a hair dryer to warm the wax. Works like a charm...even if you need to leave it for a few minutes and come back to it. We also warm our modeling wax and decorating wax that way. I need the names/brands of your beautiful yarns! ;) <3

Would you share the pattern for the sweater? Just adorable. I've been enjoying your blog--a new find for me.

If you use a blow dryer to warm it for 30 seconds or so before you roll them they won't crack.

I love your projects. The yarn you are using for the baby hat is precious, and the toy cube is unbelieveable special. It makes me want to make one for my nephew. I also think your color sense is brilliant. Beth

Beautiful things, I love all the bright and cheery colours. These past couple of days have been all about cooking and baking. I'm hoping to get a few more projects done over the next few days, bread bags, a curtain, oh and of course some housework.

What embroidery stitch did you use to make that bunny on the baby block? Love your blog!

If you place stitch markers between each lace repeat (or every two repeats, if it's a short pattern), it will be easier to fix when you mess up... which will always happen with lace!

The baby sweater is gorgeous! Is the pattern available on Ravelry? My sister's baby is due in March...

beautiful projects, nicole!
right now, i am striving for balance, so my creative energy has been divided between the kitchen (foods and projects) and a few small photo projects.

oh yeah...I made the EZ sweater for my now one-year-old and learned the same hard lesson about followin lace patterns. It gave me the chance to tell my students "Oh, Miss Angie had to rip out over a hundred stitches last night! And guess what the worst thing was? I got to knit again! And knitting is FUN!" Well, you get the idea ;)Lacework DOES get easier (probably in proportion to the length of toddler naps) and you DO start to memorize the patterns. then there is no stopping you :)

Working on his birthday crown for his second birthday coming up next month. I have nailed down the front and one of the sides, but am at a crafter's block for the other side.

Looks like you enjoyed Candlemas -

as many others have already commented, a blow dryer works marvelously. we rolled candles and we also made *snow candles*. we melted our old candle stubs and crayons and dug a little hole in the ground. poured the wax right in and voila! a new candle was born. so fun for the kiddos (and me, too!).

that block is adorable! love your stitches!! ;)

So... when are you opening an etsy shop?
Beautiful!

Happy Candlemas! Love the photos.

As for those cold candles heat up some towels in the dryer and work the candles on a sheet of paper over the warm towel.

Your soft block is absolutely gorgeous! The embroidery is truly beautiful. Your friend is going to love it! I could say what everyone else is saying, that you should start up an etsy shop, but you're probably like me. There are so many people to create gifts for I wouldn't have time to make any to sell. Everything you are making is so lovely, thanks for sharing...

Oh you are so brave doing lace! Unless the pattern is VERY very simple, I lose track and give up.

I second the etsy shop idea!! Love that sweet baby block.
We were gone over Candlemas, but I'm hoping to experiment with dipping beeswax candles this weekend. *fingerscrossed* Your rolled candles look like they turned out fine and they are so pretty in your holders. What fun!!

I love that sweater! Where did you find the pattern? My girls have birthdays in March and here in Michigan it is still cool enough for sweaters long into May, even on some June nights!

Oh, Nicole that little block is just the cutest. What a treasure, truly an heirloom. Where did you find the patterns for that or did you draw them yourself?
Many thanks for sharing such beautiful work.
Warm wishes,
Tonya

I found your blog through my sister-in-law, Sarah (of the forest room) and have to say you have such a lovely blog to view! I can see that you are quite the photographer. Perhaps it is the images that draw me in when I am browsing through blogs. Anyway, I'm glad Sarah pointed me your way. Your handwork and images are terrific!
