.:Before:.

I wanted to thank you all so very much for your thoughtful and kind comments on my last post. THANK YOU! We are still not 100% and now K is sick, too, but I wanted to stop by quick to share a little project going on in our home. I was going to wait until it was all done but I started this in January and I know that it will still be at least another month or two before completion, so I wanted to give a little sneak peek for now.

*Just a little warning - these are probably the worst pictures I have ever posted on here. I don't have a good wide angle lens so I had to use the lens that came with my camera body and to make it even more fun, the sun wouldn't come out at all so it was just a recipe for disaster. Yikes, maybe I should just not post when I am sick and can't think straight....*

The following are before pictures of the girls' room. When we moved in we just put in K's bed, C's changing table and a dresser any old way because we knew we would be re-doing the room soon. As you can see there is no trim around the base of the walls, that will be installed when we have new floors put in. Oy, I mentioned how much of a 'fixer uppper' this place is, before, right?

I will get try to get some pictures this week of the current state of their room. The furniture is temporarily out - the bed is in our bedroom and the changing table is in the living room. The walls and ceiling have been primed and painted with a matte white zero VOC paint and now we are now just awaiting our safe coat glaze to begin the fun part - LAZURING. I can't wait, but I admit I am also so afraid of it. I don't want to mess it up (think positive thoughts for me, please). I plan on painting their room the traditional peach blossom color of the Waldorf kindergarten classrooms. It is so warm, safe and inviting and that's exactly how I want the girls' room to feel for them.

Wow, looking at these pictures reminds me of how small their room is, I have no clue how we will fit two beds in there with that closet that takes up a whole wall. Any ideas?

I hope to be feeling better for my post on Wednesday and will respond to the last two posts either today or tomorrow. Thanks for bearing with me!!
Wishing you all a wonderful Monday!

What a nice room, and what a lovely view out their window! I'm quite envious! Although TN is very lovely in many places, I grew up in Bavaria and have a longing for evergreen forests!

After four boys in a row, I finally have a baby girl, and I, too, am in love with the warm, peachy tones I've come to associate with the whole Waldorf scene. You don't have boys. You have never asked a son to pick out yarn for a hat and be forced to knit with camo yarn. Yuck!

With 6 kids, we have space constraints, too, with kids too young for bunks, I really would recommend putting in a full-size bed and letting the little girls sleep together. My babies always co-sleep with me, and it always feels weird going from that to putting them in a crib or bed of their own. I think they are more secure and sleep better with a sibling there. I would do that if my girls were not 10 years apart!

Good luck with the project. Keep photo records so that if all goes well you can do a lazuring tutorial.

I just tried to leave a comment but for some reason I am having problems with typepad...
Have you decided whether you would ever try a sibling bed? I haven't tried it yet...i wonder if my girls would just fight and never sleep LOL.
The plans for their bedroom sounds so lovely, can't wait to see it!

Good luck with the lazuring! My suggestion on the beds would be either bunks or a double bed to share. My brother and I actually shared a double for several years growing up, and I think it really helped make us close. Just a thought... :) I can't wait to see the finished room!

Can't wait to see how it turns out. Both of our girls will end up sharing a room, but as the babe is used to sleeping with us, when she moves in with big sister, she'll just sleep with her. The room is pretty small, but they have a double bed to sleep in. Our boys share bunk beds in their very small room. Hope you are able to figure all the spacing out.

Ahem...how to fit two beds in a small bedroom...invest in bunk beds. Yes, they are scary because someone "might" fall; and it's a pain in the patootie for the sibling on the top bunk to change their sheets. However, they are practical, efficient, and kids LOVE them!! We resisted for the longest time putting bunk beds in our sons' room. Once it was done, Hubby and I clunked ourselves on the forehead and wondered why we didn't do it sooner!

I can't wait to see the after pictures. That peachy wall color sounds beautiful.

I can't wait to see pictures! Can you fit the changing table into the closet? We did that in our old house, and it worked really well:)

Ahhh...you and I are on the same wavelength...LOL! I am painting my girls room the same soothing color, but trying to add a bit of pink in there to get red undertones. I have a child with ASpergers and reds are soothing to them. Good luck and hope your health is 100% soon!

Are you opposed to bunk beds? We have 2 boys and 2 girls and once our littlest 2 move out of our bed, we will have the girls room w/ a set of bunks, and the boys room, w/ a set of bunks. The 1 set of bunk beds we have we bought from a bare wood store and can be separated if we want. The 2nd set we're going to build ourselves from these plans:
http://knockoffwood.blogspot.com/2010/01/plans-how-to-modify-simple-bed-to-bunk.html
These too, can be separated, but to be honest, our rooms are pretty small and I'm not sure if we will separate them or not. Another option would be to have a trundle bed:
http://knockoffwood.blogspot.com/2010/01/plans-trundle-bed-or-storage-pottery.html
But my concern would be 1 child not having their own "space".
With the bunks, we were able to "pretty up" the underside of the top bunk by weaving a rainbow playsilk through the mattress slats.
You could also move all their clothes to the closet and under bed drawers (similar plans to the trundle) and have a very minimalist room of just beds, maybe a shared nightstand and maybe a shelving unit for some toys or personal items.

I hope you guys feel better soon. If that was the only room in the house for 2 girls to share, I would get a trundle bed to put under the existing bed and get a tall dresser for them to share. I might even close up the closet wall and hang their dresses in an armoire with drawers underneath. At least with an armoire you can move it around and it won't take up a whole wall.

How about a trundle bed, or bunk beds? I know a trundle might be a little annoying to roll out every.single.day, but it is a space saver! Or one full sized bed that the girls sleep in together? Glad you're feeling better and hope K is up and around soon.

I plan on doing the same in our daughter's room. I am looking forward to hearing about your experience!

the girls' room is super small too, so we are doing bunkbeds. you can do a nice loft bed so it's not too tall and then C can have a comfy matteress underneath....:)

i'm dying to see how the room turns out....

I can't wait to see how it turns out with the glaze! You'll have to let me know how you like my technique in your room! Enjoy your painting!

Hope you girls feel well soon. I am finally getting over this horrid case of strep. I was wrecked this past week. I pray for good health for you girls.

I get worried about bunk beds with kids so small, but I know that is sometimes just a silly fear I have. If your oldest isn't a terrible roller, they have bed with rails you can add. It's a great space saver. But you just have to watch out with the lil one that she doesn't decide to take a climb up it while you are not looking.

and the wall colour sounds lovely. My daughters room is a light lime green.

Oh we are just about to move into a fixer-upper ourselves. Right now our kitchen is gutted and we have just found structural problems. Ugh. Small rooms are so much cozier than big ones. My kids have been in both and I prefer the smaller rooms. There is something lonely to me about leaving a child in a vacuous, open room. Your girls are so lucky to be together in their peach room! I second the trundle bed suggestion although a sibling bed sounds really nice.

I am so looking forward to seeing how your little ones' room turns out, we are also rennovating some of the rooms in our home and it is so much fun:) I am glad you are all recovering:)

Our girls share a bedroom and we have moved the beds and their cupboards around in every imagionable way and now we seem to have gotten it right space wise.

We used to have a changing table, but it was too bulky so the next time around we turfed the changing table for a chest of drawers that was just the right height for a changer and did not jut out as far as the changing table. We put a soft cushion on top of this and it worked perfectly:)
Warmly
Linda

Cute window. I look forward to seeing the After pictures!

I love that you are lazuring the walls. I have a local friend who lazures (is that a word)...am hoping to get some help someday for a few walls in our house.

yay for you! we lazured our classroom this past summer. we were dealing with concrete walls so it was a much longer and more involved process than necessary under normal conditions. even so, it was worth every minute! you will be so happy with your work. and don't worry...you WON'T mess it up!

hope you are all on the mend and feeling right as rain real soon. much love to you!

Oh my goodness, I can't wait to see how the Lazure turns out!

I'd love to do this in dd's room (and ds's but he loves his bright orange wall too much..lol).

I love the idea of letting the girls share a full-sized bed...how cozy! I all of a sudden want to go put my kiddos in the same room!

Thank you, thank you everyone for your well wishes and your ideas!!

*lots of thinking out loud to follow*
I really do love the idea of the girls snuggling in bed together. Currently it's all 4 of us plus the cats in our king sized bed but we have to keep the girls apart because they like to wake each other up at night (which is both sweet and slightly troublesome - I like hearing C's little voice as she crawls to her sister) so I am still thinking on that. K's bed is an organic one we bought back in VA so we do have to keep that one... but maybe it could belong to the next baby.... We will more than likley only be in this house for 4 years so they won't be in their a long, long time. I just want it to be cozy for them, still. There is technically 3 bedrooms in the house but it's a split level and the 3rd bedroom is downstairs which is where the laundry room and our office area is. I wouldn't want either of them to be that far away from me....hmm am I clingy? :)

I will have to try the changing table in the closet... or just get rid of it. We use it to store our cloth diapers, wipes and woolies right now but if I could get a dresser instead (like you mentioned, Linda) that would be more practical. I am hoping to get rid of the white cabinet once I have the money to replace it.

Thank you again, so many great ideas, now I just need to think and think some more :)

I cannot wait to see how it all looks with the lazured walls! Right now my boys have bunk beds that are unstacked and are side by side so it is one big bed for them to sleep in together... is there enough room for you to do that?

I hope you are on the mend, dear dear friend... I feel so badly that you aren't well and I wish that I lived closer to help out... I really miss you and am sending lots of love and healing thoughts!
