WIP Wednesday: Winter Warmth

The last couple of projects I have been finishing up have been all about warmth...

Warm toes

K hasn't taken off her rainbow socks since they came off the needles. She has requested that I knit her a rainbow poncho to wear them with and that I hurry up on C's matching rainbow socks. Oh to have the free time to finish all she desires!

Warm bodies

Hmmmm.. where did C go?
Finished up our folksy flannel throw. It is so cozy and warm! I used organic cotton batting on the inside and found a flannel sheet to cut up and use as the backing.

I had to use some colorful embroidery floss for my ties.

Wrinkled quilt picture, no chance to iron. I had to wrestle it away from my girls who have been living under it.

I have had the chance to use it a couple of times so far, one of those times was to keep me warm while practicing my latest obsession... which I will post more about next week.

Warm drinks

I had a lot of left over fabric of just one of the prints from the quilt (I had to order a half yard of one from another store because AMH was out of stock so I decided to make some quilted coasters with it.

I used one of the girls' tea cup saucers and traced it eight times on the fabric and four times on the batting to make four two-sided coasters. Fast, simple and easy.

Yes, they are not the prettiest things in the world, it's been so long since I've sewn curves and I really need more practice but they are practical. Flaws and all - we have been enjoying using them.

So here's to the warmth and coziness of flannel and wool on those cold winter days!

Happy creating!

I apologize for my absence on Monday, I am still playing catch up on a lot of computer work.

Ah, love your folksy throw! I did something similar but it was a duvet cover so I could use wool as my liner and wash the cover easily. I think I might just have to try a set of coasters too!

Oooooh! A drop spindle! I can't wait to see what you've created!

I love the coasters, I think they look very cool. And that blanket looks so comfy, I want to snuggle with it too. Great work on everything!

So much cuteness, Nicole! Well, of course K wants you knitting for her all the time! Why wouldn't she? ;) The quilt is lovely, and the coasters are adorable! Your girls seem to be thoroughly enjoying that quilt. Good for them!

PS. I bought my first sock yarn yesterday, so I'm trying to work up the nerve to brave into sock territory. Wish me luck!

Um, so yeah, I want to make everything you made. :) You're so inspiring, especially since our kids are about the same age...Happy crafting!

I love everything! All the more because right now it is dark and gray and rainy out and all your projects look so bright and cheery!

Nice work!

And I totally am with you on wanting all more time to create! I've 5 kids and a baby, and I'm schooling 3, and I knit in the van and in 10-minutes sneaked in here and there. And all I want to do is ditch the work and play with the kids and do crafts...

what are the chances you would tell me how you made the throw/quilt? i've never made one, but i've now seen yours and soulemam's and they look about the same, so what's the secret? how big were your squares? how many are there? how does the batting get sewn in/on? newbie = me. but i want so much to make that beauty of a thing!

Oh My! You have been keeping busy! Your throw is adorable. I love the detail of the ties. I also have been trying the drop spindle, but alas, with no success (yet!). I look forward to seeing your handspun yarn.

I bought a drop spindle last year and have still not used it. this is making me think I should go dig it back out. I'm excited to see your post on it later. :)

I like the quilted coasters! I think it might be worth making some for myself, too! Thanks for the idea.

I really like that quilt. The colors are beautiful Nicole.

Also, the coasters are a wonderful idea. I think I might try some, but hand stitching them as I don't have the best relationship with my sewing machine.
Warm wishes,
Tonya

Thank you!!

The wool fairy - funny you should mention duvet cover... that's my next project with some more folksy flannel :)

Joy - You'll do great on the socks, I just know it!!!

Cat - I ended up with 16" squares once it was all said and done.

Kate - this was my 1st big quilt. The only other one I have everdone was the doll one for Christmas.
I just ordered the set of 16 fat squares prewashed them, then cut them to 17" squares and sewed them together in rows of four with a 1/2" seam allowance. Ironed the seams flat, then sewed it up with a flannel sheet as the back and organic cotton on the inside. It was fast and easy. I am addicted!! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Thank you again everyone for your inspiration and keeping me going! XOXO
