The girls and I are real homebodies. We hardly ever leave the house and just enjoy spending time at home. Even though this 'fixer-upper' house still needs a lot more work done to it before it can really be a home, we still enjoy being here.
Since we are home all the time I try to have various family things to do throughout the day so that it doesn't get too dull around here. Plus, some days K is so content playing that if it wasn't for these activities I would hardly see her!
On our hand working day this week K requested that we all do sewing. Before I could even reply she ran to the craft cabinet and got out her embroidery hoop and floss and set them up on the living room coffee table. She then grabbed some stringing beads and a sewing block for C, so that she could be included, too (I melted at her sweet gesture). I grabbed my wool felt squares I needed to embroider and we all worked happily on our individual projects while K and I sang:
The thread follows the needle,
The thread follows the needle,
In and out the needle goes
While Mama mends the children's clothes
It truly felt like a fairytale moment (of course later it was ended by a quarrel over some pink thread). If only every day could be like this! I wonder if my girls will want to continue with sewing and knitting when they are older.They just seem to enjoy it so much right now and it makes me so happy to see!

lovely! we are homebodies, too. you are quite fortunate that your girls will become fully absorbed in an activity. my daughter will, sometimes, but my son gets into tremendous trouble when not watched, even for a moment. hand work and not part of my day at this point, not while they are awake, at least!

Thanks for the link. It was nice to do some more reading on rhythm and get some concrete ideas about what your days look like. Do you really only grocery shop 1-2 times a month???
Aahh... you see! You resonate peace and calm. We often spend all day at home too. I used to feel very guilty if we didn't go at least 'somewhere' exciting every day... how silly that was... the very best days we have are the ones that we spend pottering round.

It looks likes such a sweet time with your girls. My boys and I really enjoy either being out of doors playing in nature, or curled up inside of our home. There is rarely an in-between.
I wonder every day if my kids will still enjoy their handwork as they get older. I truly hope that they will keep at least some aspect of it with them always, no matter how it changes and grows. Have a great weekend Nicole.

mamauk - K just uses burlap right now, it has big holes and her blunt needles can pass through it easily.

Outside, on adventures, out at museums, around town, kayaing, walks to the beach, with friends. I love how we all make it work in our own way!
This is so sweet! We use alot of waldorf in our relaxed daily life learning. If we are blessed to go back to Germany, they will go to the Waldkindergarten, an outdoors waldorf.
