The Forest Around Us
There is nothing better in the morning, than waking up to a forest view.
When we lived in Virginia, in the middle of suburbia, all we could dream about was nature - more specifically forests, and trees.
Now that we are here in Oregon we are constantly spoiled with gifts from Mother Nature, and oh how we love it!! When I first wake up in the morning and look out our bedroom window I feel like I am in a log cabin or out camping because of the sights and sounds I wake to. Sweet birds sing us songs, squirrels chatter, the wind rustles the leaves in the trees, the rain plays music on our windowsills... it really is heavenly.
Besides our own back yard, we have so many places to hike and explore. My girls really are becoming true 'children of the forest'. We look forward to taking them camping for the first time sometime this year (my husband has crazy hours at work right now so we don't get to see him enough). Exploring, loving, respecting and understanding nature are such important lessons for us to teach our girls, I hopewe are teaching them well.
Wishing you all a fun, adventurous, nature loving weekend!!

Beautiful pictures. We're looking for own piece of the woods and have been for a while. I can't wait until I wake up to a view like that too.
Trees are the one thing that we don't have any of here, and I miss them. What beautiful surroundings you have.
This post is bitter sweet for me. I grew up in Oregon and spent many hours walking my German Shepherd through forests that look just like that. I now am raising my daughter far away from that lush green life. Enjoy it!
What a beautiful area you live in! I'm sure the girls are enjoying it immensely.
beautiful photos!
I, also, love waking up to the sound of nature outside my door. We live next to the Yaquina River on a farm. So we get to hear the rooster crowing, the cows moo-ing, and the river rushing over the rocks.
God's creation always amazes me!
I feel the same way about our hobby farm as you do about your place:-) Outside our door we are blessed with nature and so much more all around us! This is a mile away and a fav for hiking and exploring:

Sigh, such gorgeous, lovely photos! I am so excited that all of you can enjoy nature so close to you now- it's truly a beautiful, soul-nurturing gift!
Love that header! The picture of the girls makes me squeal every time!
Love and hugs!

very, very pretty pictures, I'm glad you are able to make it out in that beauty!
Isn't it positively dreamy?!? Yes, you've definitely captured one of the very best things about the Pacific Northwest. Have you seen blooms yet? We have sweet box (the most heavenly scent), azalea, rhodedendron and daffodils blooming! Soon the quince will open up. I love spring in January!
So glad you are loving your new scenery! Sometimes people ask me, "How can you stand to live out here?" and I just think, "How in the world can you stand to live 3 feet away from your neighbors with no nature around?!"
I'll take my 30 minute drive to the grocery store and wild turkeys and deer in my backyard over suburbia any day! :)
So glad to see you are savoring your surroundings. Oregon seems so dreamy!
Oh, I know! Don't you feel so blessed to live in this nook of the world? Enjoy!
oh my goodness! i could have written this post, nicole. i feel this way about what is around us and if you read my whiny post today, i talk about my husband working crazy hours.
beautiful setting you have!

Oh you make me miss the place... those trees.
It was so shocking to come to your blog and see green. I am ensconced in a white, white world over here in NH! It's nice to see your family out and about enjoying the woods. We've been enjoying snowshoeing, but I do miss unencumbered hikes that don't require so much bundling!
Oh, Nicole I am so very happy for you and your family! It certainly is a beautiful thing to be so close to nature, so soothing for the soul. And of course you are doing a beautiful job indoors and out teaching your girls about nature : ) I hope to see more of your surroundings it looks positively dreamy there! xo
sigh. beautiful photos! we love winter, but have been craving green, trees, moisture, dark damp forests, fungus. :)
I am so glad you love it here! Have you been to the Gorge or Mt Hood yet?
Oh, you are so lucky to live in the forest... This post really resonated with me. Yesterday I was driving through my suburban surroundings and realized that I could not see a single tree anywhere, only buildings and pavement. So sad. I went to college in Oregon and would love to move back to the Pacific Northwest. Loved this post and the pictures are beautiful!
You live in such an amazingly beautiful place!!! I do love living near nature as well.
Thank you everyone for allowing me to post our woodland escape! <3 We love it so much.
