WIP Wednesday: Child of the Forest

As promised here are a couple more pictures of K's 'Children of the Forest' hat. I haven't had the chance to get any of the hat by itself yet. She loves it and it was so simple to make. I found it in last years fall edition of Living Crafts. I contacted the creator of the pattern and had her send me a kit with the beautiful plant dyed wool.

K's sweater came out pretty well, too. She put it on right after she opened it. I adjusted the pattern a bit changing the needle size to make it a tighter knit, and also added length to it so she can wear it next year. I apparently didn't add enough length on the arms though, because they fit perfectly right now, so I will just have to add more stitches to those next year.

My current WIPs are geared towards the upcoming Winter season.

Since I made 3 of the same sweater this year (1 for K, 1 for C and 1 for K's best friend) I thought it would be fitting to make a mini ornament sweater out of the same yarn. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Maybe that will be another new tradition, I already make the girls matching sweaters every year so why not an ornament for the tree, as well? Am I going a bit overboard here???

I also am working on some test patterns for the ornament I want to make for the Winter Ornament Swap I have planned. Of course as luck would have it this picture is as far as I will get on this ornament until we move into our house. Apparently, I forgot to bring my wool stuffing with me so it's in storage somewhere. Yeah, I could just go buy more but I have so much of it already, it seems pointless, SO I wait...

What is everyone else up to? Anyone thinking ahead to the Holiday season, too? Or am I the only crazy one?

Happy creating everyone!!!

I made that bird ornament (Also from Living Crafts, right?) last year as a cardinal for a cardinal loving friend...thinking of making doves & robins this year! It is soooo cute...and a nice break from so much knitting!

PS-I think a mini ornament is a great idea...what nice memories you'll have of the sweaters long after the kiddos out grow theirs!

Clearly you're not the only crazy one since you saw my post earlier. :) I've already made quite a few Christmas presents with plenty of ideas left to make! The ornament out of their sweater yarn isn't overboard at all. Just think of how those ornaments will remind them of their favorite childhood sweaters when they're older. In fact, I think you should make 2 sweater ornaments out of the leftover yarn from their matching sweaters so they can each have a set when they're adults. (I know you don't want to think of that yet, but they'll appreciate it SO much! ;)

I just wanted to say how inspiring I'm finding your blog right now. We are a homeschooling family who has only recently discovered The Waldorf methods (not sure where I have been?). We are loving them and learning as we go. Transitioning toys has been the hardest for us, we are switching out the old plastic for the new natural, a little at a time. But, I am truly enjoying seeing my boys thrive in their new environment.
ok so, yes, thinking towards the Holidays, hoping to tone way down and make so much more.We are trying to focus on traditions as opposed to gifts. How do you handle this with family? Also,I would love to know how you made the little felted slippers. My boys would love them.

The crown looks beautiful. I've started on holiday knits - I made some mini sweaters for out tree using a pattern from Weekend Knits. They are actually egg cozies in the book but we like them for decroations.

I'm planning and working on holiday gifts, as well. We have to with little ones, and all that handwork takes time.

I appreciate the love and thought you put into the things you do for your children.

I love all of these! I so need to learn how to knit. And stitch better too I suppose. Maybe I can take lessons? (just kidding - sort of.)

Happy Belated to your little beauty! I love everything you made for her and I'm sure she treasures the handmade love her Mama poured into it all.

And no...you are not crazy to be thinking of Christmas. I'm right there with you! I find the more prepared I can be throughout the Fall, the more I enjoy the Christmas Season once it arrives!

The sweater came out beautiful! I love the idea of making a mini sweater ornament. Something to always remember this birthday by. As she grows older, she can look back and remember her same sweater that mama made her. Great idea!!

Rock on Ni. I haven't checked your blog in a while and it looks fantastic. The projects are all so sweet and the girls look like little bundles of sugar. The move did you all well :) - the hat is just too much, love it.

Thank you, as always, everyone for your kind words. They mean so much.
And thank you for letting me know I am not crazy with my holiday crafts!

Kimberley - Yep that bird is from Living Crafts :)

Joy - Thank you for that wonderful idea!! I love it!

4boysonly - Thank you! What an exciting time for you and your family! I remember the transition with my oldest (we discovered Waldorf when she was 6 months old or so) it was so exciting and exhausting all at the same time!

Hillary - You are so sweet! Thank you! We don't have an address until we move into our house unfortunately, but thank you so much for the offer!!

I can't believe she's already 4. It doesn't seem like that long ago that you were pregnant with her, and then came C and how they're just getting so big. Hope you all are enjoying the new location.
