Travel Log : Day 7 - In a rut, Nebraska

Thank you, thank you everyone for your sweet words. It was a bit of a predicament indeed, but we are getting by! I couldn't believe it when I captured that moment with the girls. Even C laughs at herself when she sees the picture!

We are nearing the end of the Oregon Trail. It's bittersweet, for sure. This day we made 4 stops. That was quite a lot for the girls and animals so we learned not to plan so many stops in just one day's time. Life is about learning all of the time, huh?

Our first stop in Nebraska was at the Great Platte River Road (continuing from the previous day), to see some of the same land the original pioneers saw on their travels.

Then we drove to Brule, Nebraska to see the still-visible ruts (and according to our Traveling the Oregon Trail guide book, these are the best and most highly-visible ruts found anywhere along the trail) left by the wagon trains. It's amazing to think they could still be around after all of these years.

To think we were actually, physically standing in history, walking the same trail the original pioneers walked so many years ago. It was truly an exhilarating experience.

Our next stop was at Courthouse and Jail Rocks. These were famous landmarks for the pioneers often written about in their journals. We couldn't get very close, so I was not able to get good pictures.

Finally, our last stop (I told you it was a lot of stops!) was not too far away at Chimney Rock. The pioneer children of the past were awestruck at the sight of this on their travels. Our little pioneers found it equally fascinating. Again, I was not able to get close. The land was protected to keep it as close to it's original state from the 1800s as possible. I am truly happy for that!

I apologize for the late post today. I am experiencing internet issues that are driving me a bit bonkers. Hopefully I will be able to post at my normal times tomorrow. Not too much further to go! Until then...
