Oh, God is good to us, and so we thank our God,
for giving us the things we need,
the sun and the rain and the apple seed,
oh, God is good to us!
And every seed we sow, will grow into a tree,
then there will be apples there,
for everyone in the world to share,
oh, God is good to us, us!
Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen!
Johnny Appleseed, amen!

On any given day you'll hear someone in our house singing this song. We love apples. We can never seem to keep enough on hand. Especially in September (K's birthday month) apples are everywhere, not only to eat but also as decorations. I tend to 'theme' the girl's birthdays around the season they were born in and since K's birthday is smack dab in the middle of the apple season there's always apples everywhere.
Monday, as you know, is our baking day. Last Monday we decided to get out one of our favorite cookbooks - 'The Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book' and make some apple crisp. One of the many great things about that cook book is that everything is sugar-free. We fell off the sugar-free wagon a while ago and I am trying to get us back on track. Every recipe throughout the book is delicious so it really helps us out.
We had a lot of fun:
Very simple ingredients (not pictured are the oats)
Lots of fun preparing the apples...
and eating the peels (yeah, I know! It kind of shocked me too!)
Baked (with a little too much crisp. We will cut back on that part of the recipe next time!)
It was enjoyed by everyone!
Finally a baked good C could partake in as well!
Now off to decide what we will bake for today! Happy Monday everyone!

I used to love to eat the peels when I was a kid too. :) We're an apple-loving house as well. It might have something to do with the fact my great-grandfather was an apple farmer so apples are bred into our genes, I think. We'll have to try out that recipe. Happy Monday baking!
love the verse...reminds me of childhood.
now off to do laundry. today is our laundry day...
I just love your blog and am so inspired by the things you do with your family! What a fun recipe for baking day, and easy too... I wanted to let you know about something really important since I can tell you are a health conscious mama...Iodized Sea Salt is very processed and not good for our bodies. The absolute best salt on the earth is Celtic Sea Salt. It's hand harvested off the coast of France and sun-dried. It's full of minerals and completely unprocessed. I am sure you can research it on your own and learn all about it. The best part about it is that the cheapest price available for it is at Trader Joes. It's $4.00 a lb. and although it's coarse salt you can buy a reusable grinder right there for $2.50. Cheers to your health!
Mmmmm looks wonderful!
My 3 year old loves the peels too. It takes all kinds!
Enjoyed finding your blog via Seasons Round and Soule Mama.
