A Tale of Two Kings

So different, yet so much the same. Just years between them.

Both are Ostheimer and they are both are simply called 'King'. In April 2006 Ostheimer replaced the king you see with the dark red robe with the other one (with the lighter red almost pink robe).
I honestly can't decide which one I find more appealing. There are aspects of both that make them uniquely beautiful. I am more drawn to the older 'vintage' Ostheimers in general (especially when it comes to the knights, I'll post more about them later). I just find it interesting to see which figures they choose to change each year (if any) and what they do differently to them.

K likes to pretend the older king is the daddy king and that the newer one is his son.

When you look at the differences, take into consideration the fact that the older king has been played with longer so shows more love aka: wear.

Oh, how our house loves Ostheimer :) Everyone from my husband on down to our cats loves these wooden toys. I don't think any of us can ever get enough of these works of art. I thought I'd share some of our love with all of you.

Oh Nicole- Love these! I've actually been on the lookout for the "older" king... The red in his robes looks so rich. Thanks for sharing :)

We have just started a collection of Ostheimer animals for my 21 month old son. He also has some Holztiger wooden animals. He spends a lot of time playing with them! Which Ostheimer animals/people are your kids favorites?

They are both nice...The red robe one is more detailed while the lighter one is simpler...If it was for me, I like the dark robe one...For kids, the simpler one is nice...

anonymous- how lovely!! oh my favorites..let's see...
I'd say the squirrels for sure, the older style knights and the farmer and his wife get the most play here.they have favorites that chnage around a bit oo but those seem to be the 'go to' toys. my personal fav is the old style sheperd boy with the movable arms. you can see him in the back ground of this post:
