K's 1st Pumpkin Moonshine/Jack-o-lantern

"Jack-o-lantern Jack-o-lantern,
how your light it does shine,
sitting up upon the window
and your light it does shine.

You were once an orange pumpkin
sitting on a pumpkin vine,
now you are my Jack-o-lantern
and your light it is mine."

We have been singing this song a lot this month. We love it!
K had her 1st ever Jack-o-lantern or Pumpkin Moonshine,as she calls it this year. This was also the very 1st pumpkin her Daddy Kevin ever did, so it was special all around! K and I did the dirty work of scooping out all the pulp and seeds and then we handed it over to Daddy to carve.

Pumpkin seeds to roast! yum,yum!

K and her pumpkin

K was the artistic director, though and told him what she wanted. I think they made a good team. We carved this pumpkin last weekend and every night we would light a candle in it and set it on the table in the living room. She has just been staring at it and watching it's face dance on the wall in the dark every night. It's magic for her. It's so amazing to watch these wondrous things through our little girl's eyes.

More farmyard fun

Knitting is coming along rather well in the final stages of putting our farmyard together. The girls can not resist playing with it while I am knitting it! It's cracking me up b/c I am literally at one end of the playmat knitting it together and the girls are at the other end touching it,playing with toys on it,rolling on it.... LOL
I think this will be a hit with both of them once it's all done.

C being a roly poly and playing with a squirrel on it.

This really made me laugh. A random car driving on the farm!

Anyone know? (and knitted farmyard progress)

Where to find these old Ostheimer knights? We really don't care for the newer versions as much but LOVE these ones. I have been searching forever and can't find them anywhere so I thought I'd try putting out my own want ad, tee hee. Aren't they gorgeous? *drool* I will be forever in your debt if you find some for me!!

Our Internet hasn't been working for some reason the past week and 1/2 or so but now seems to be back in order...we'll see. I should be back to posting regularly now.

The knitted farmyard swap is finally at it's last stage. I mailed out the 1st batch of squares and the next and final batch goes out Monday. Then we can all get to work on putting them all together and making paths between our squares, then adding embellishments if we desire and felting it. woo hooo!!!!!

Just for the fun of it here's some more Ostheimer pics. They are such beautiful toys I find myself taking pictures of them quite often.

Friday is 'Fiona Day'

After a HUGE pause in our weekly rhythm posts (thanks to Internet problems, I apologize!!) I am back to post the last days of the week. I now give you Friday- 'Fiona Day'

I think this is our favorite day :) Fiona is K's best friend. Every Friday we have a date to get together. Doesn't matter where or what we do but we just have to get together. Since it is mid-October we went Pumpkin Pickin'. We went to this place together last year too. It's literally down the road from my house.

Silly faces on the hay ride.

After pumpkin pickin', we went to the park to have lunch. The girls 'flew' on the swings.
Before we left D'Anne found this amazing smelling plant and we had to gather some to bring home.

K shared her sandwich with some ducks before we left.

We love Fiona Day!

Thursday is 'Craft Day'

Thursday is the day we make some kind of 'more involved' craft. Felting is a super fun and easy craft for little ones, so we like to do it quite a bit.

After buying the latest issue of Living Crafts, seen below:

We had to make the felted pumpkin box.

It was an easy wet felting project that K and I had lots of fun doing together. It didn't come out perfect but that's ok, we made it with love :)

First we wrapped a tennis ball in pumpkin colored wool and then we tied wool yarn around it creating the pumpkin's "sections".

Here's K starting the felting process by rolling it around in her hands with hot soapy water. This is her favorite part.

Then she rubbed and rolled it on the wash board for a good 10 minutes:

Once the pumpkin body was done she worked on the stem:

We let it all dry, cut off the top and sewed the stem on. Then we filled it with acorns and voila!
It is proudly displayed on our autumn nature table with her beloved bat seated behind it.

ETA: oops I forgot the finished product pic!

Wednesday is 'Painting Day'

Wednesday we get out our paper, soak it in the sink until it's nice and wet, grab our painting board, paint brush and paint jar holder, then get out our special 'wet on wet' paint from the fridge. K loves the preparation for painting as much as she loves painting itself.
Wet on wet painting is so graceful and imaginative.
She paints for an hour or so on average. Right now we are using the color yellow. I was letting her use red, yellow and blue until I researched more and discovered we are supposed to only be using 1 color at a time to start. So it's yellow for a couple months, then we'll put that away and get out the red for a couple months, then put that away and get out the blue. Once we have gone through those 3 colors individually then we'll do all 3.

Her finished works from the day:

The beauty and vibrant colors of the paint don't really show up in photos.
We decorate our house with her pics once they are dry.

Tuesday is 'Outward' Day

Funny name for the day, I know. This is our day to get out of the house. The first Tuesday of every month we have Le Leache League meetings, the last Tuesday of every month we have circle time at Kinderhaus and the Tuedays in between we have story time at the library. We also run errands on this day and try to get together with friends. Today we literally spent the entire day out of the house first at the park with our friends from a couple streets over, then lunch then back to the park with some other friends, errands, and then back home for dinner. Phew! I am a real home body and K is the same way so we really like just having this one day to leave to keep our sanity.
We get groceries on Tuesdays as well. K loves that when we are all done shopping(to get all our groceries we have to go to 3 different grocery stores) we sing:

"To market
to market
to buy a plum cake.
Home again
home again
for C's sake.

To market
to market
to buy a plum bun.
Home again
home again
market is DONE!"

We don't have any pictures for today, I meant to get some at the park but my camera was acting up.

Tomorrows day will be more fun and interesting I promise :)

Follow our weekly rhythmn: Monday is Baking Day

*All of the activities for this week will actually be from last week.I'm not that together to take pics and post on the blog the same day! *

Monday is our favorite day of the week. It is baking day and boy do we bake! We bake (and cook) all day, usually making a loaf of bread, some kind of sweet treat, pizza dough, and items from scratch that we need for the week like 'cheese', BBQ sauce, marinara sauce, ect.

We decided to make this Monday even more special. We gave K a new book 'The Apple Cake'. We read the book (about an old woman who really wants to make an apple cake but has no apples so takes some plums to the market in hope to trade and ends up trading over and over with most of her town until she finally gets her apples It's a sweet, sweet book), then made apple cake together.

I made it sugar free and drizzled honey over it when it cooled down. Yum,yum!!

Apple Cake

4c diced apples
3/4 cup maple sugar
1tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup oil
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 3/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.Mix apples, maple sugar and oil in one bowl, then the rest of the ingredients in anotehr bowl. Combine. Pour in an oiled 8x8 pan and place in the oven for about 20 mins. Remove and cool. Once cooled drizzle with honey. The cake will absorb it. IMO, it's too bland without the honey.

C took her nap with our kitty Geisha, which is a usual event here. Geisha is her little guardian.

K really wanted to fly her new kite she got from Grandma. She has been wanting to fly a kite for at least a year now, from seeing them in her seasons books. We took her to the beach after dinner Monday night and let her fly it. She had a blast!
