Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? crafting on Hey guys. Now that the Halloween crafting madness is done I am taking a little selfish break and knitting myself a hat (another awesome stitch and story kit). I am so in love with this colorway. I want to knit Baby F a sweater with it, too.

I am actually currently working on finalizing the pumpkin pattern (yay!) as well as finishing up the children's Pevensie costumes but I'd rather share about what K just finished instead. Last week I received a package from Stitch and Story that included two knitting kits. Some of you may have seen my kiddos unboxing them on my IG stories. K instantly claimed one of them - the sweet cup cozy you see above. It was such a fast and easy knit she finished it in one sitting. I am starting on the other kit as soon as my aforementioned WIPs are finished. For those of you that have been wanting to learn how to knit - these kits would be a great place to start! Each kit is geared towards first time knitters and contains very detailed instructions. They also have the softest yarn in the most beautiful colors. You can see their kits and yarn  here (USA) and here (UK). Use code FRONTIER20for 20% off your purchase!

I finished our chunky knit life-sized pumpkin.  I love how it came out but now I feel like it needs a buddy. Maybe even a whole patch of knit pumpkins? Once I figured out how to make the pattern it went really fast so maybe I could fill our house with them before autumn is over...maybe? Would anyone be interested in the pattern if I published it?

crafting on I have a lot of crafting going on at the moment but no photographic evidence of it. With that in mind I thought I would share a project K is working on - a Christmas gift for Baby F. It is a knitted chocolate roll to add to his knitted food collection. It is also from the book Tasty Knits.

To add to Baby F's knitted food collection: pumpkin pie (pattern here). 🎃 Yum, yum. This is probably my favorite knitted food item so far. Perhaps because I love anything pumpkin!

crafting on I finally went out and bought some stuffing so that I could finish working on my life sized pumpkin. I am currently deciding how exactly I want to do the stem. It is being made with smaller needles and worsted yarn (vs. the super bulky I used for the pumpkin itself).

Last minute birthday prep happening over here, per usual.  I need to finish up her Susan Pevensie dress, make a banner and then bake/cook all day tomorrow as she requested most of the recipes in the Narnia Cookbook. Wish me luck!

Well, I got as far as I could with my chunky knit pumpkin. I was to the point of stuffing it when I realized I didn't have any stuffing. Oops. Pictured above is the children's handwork from school - weaving on forked branches. I'll share after photos when they are all done.

Bring on all the chunky yarn on big needles and autumn weather. I'm ready!! I am hoping this little project turns into a cute, gigantic pumpkin for our mantle. We'll see how it comes out - I am making it up as I go. 🙈

So I know I said that I would be done with K's sweater within a week but I am only 5 rows away from being done. That is nearly the same. Or so I'd like to think. Also this beautiful wooden watch just arrived - another birthday gift to tuck away for my girl. I think thirteen is the perfect age to get a real watch.

Sorry guys. I have been a bit under the weather these past few days (oh the joy of summer colds) so I haven't been around much. However the silver lining to be sick is getting a lot of knitting done. I am nearly finished with the 2nd sleeve on K's birthday sweater and will be sewing the whole thing up in no time.

Kevin gave me a Fire Tablet for my birthday. Before you get any crazy ideas - no, I am still not going to get a smart phone. I am sticking with my dinosaur flip phone for as long as they exist. I can't get over just how great it is for knitting. I know I sound ridiculous but hear me out! We don't have a printer so whenever I purchase new knitting patterns online I have to either go to the library to print them out (which pretty much never happens) or copy every little excruciating detail by hand. My hand is cramping up just thinking about it, and without fail I always manage to copy some pattern of the pattern incorrectly and end up having to rip back my work and check the pattern on my computer. No fun! But now I have my patterns with my everywhere I go. I love it! Okay, yes the tablet has other awesome features but that is the one I am most excited about. It is the simple things, right?

On to my knitting - I am now on to sleeve number 2 of K's birthday knit. I am seventy-five percent done! *happy dance* I think this will look so pretty one her when it is all done. The green matches her eyes. 😻

I am finally on to the sleeves of K's birthday knit. Hurrah!! I rather like that the green yarn somewhat matches the owl's eyes in Baby F's new book (which he loves, by the way. Then again he loves anything with foxes and birds).

I am taking a little break from K's birthday sweater to do a fun little test knit for RowRow and Kades.
It is called Beekeepers Bonnet and it is absolutely adorable. I can't wait to finish it for Baby F to wear this fall.

crafting on Still chugging away on K's birthday sweater. With every stitch I knit I find myself wondering why, oh why, did she pick a pattern with such thin yarn, tiny needles and is knit in pieces that I will have to sew up later? The finished product should look amazing on her which will make the process worth it in the end. At least I keep telling myself. 🙊 This is a true labor of love indeed!

Not exactly a new project but something I have been working on nonetheless. This little Peter Rabbit blue cardigan was knit for L the Easter after he turned three. I didn't have any specific buttons for it so I threw on some cute honey bee ones. However I didn't have enough of them so I ended up with a mismatch buttons cardigan. Not exactly the look I was going for. Fast forward to now. Baby F found that sweater in a pile of WIPs and fell in love with it. He isn't quite big enough to wear it yet but his enthusiasm was just the push I needed to sew on new buttons and give it a proper cleaning. I purchased those beautiful toggle buttons from Taryn of Wooly Moss Roots at Flock and Fiber in Portland, OR last September with this very cardigan in mind (I miss you Taryn!!).  I am quite happy with my choice and can't wait for Baby F to grow into it!

A couple of weeks back K was looking at the Webs catalog and she spied a sweater pattern she really liked - Scarrington by Fiona Ellis. She showed it to me and went on and on about how much she liked it. I think it was because of the yarn color but either way she was smitten with it. I took the hint and ordered the pattern and yarn (same yarn shown on the sample) to knit it for her upcoming birthday. I am glad I am starting so early because it is a bottom up sweater worked flat. That will take quite a while to finish. Not to mention my little girl is now in women's sizes so it is like knitting a sweater for me. 😲

early morning light {kcco}
Knitting in the early morning light. There is just something so magical about rising early, especially since I have never been an early riser. It's life-giving. It fills my cup until it runneth over pouring into those around me - those that need a joyful, rested mama. This is my new routine of self care. Gone are my late nights of knitting (or sewing/crafting/baking) that leave me with mistakes in my projects and tired/grumpy eyes in the morning. I now rise with the sun and follow a slow morning.

Oh and I am still happily knitting Baby F an army of play food. Working on a little lemon at the moment.

Hey guys! So something is up with our country WiFi. It hasn't been working well for the past couple of days (which explains why there was no post yesterday and why I have been absent on Instagram.) We are hoping to figure it out soon. Somehow I was able to get it to work to upload a photo via blogger for this post though.

I am still working on knitted play food for Baby F. I am now on to a veggie dog in a bun topped with mustard. 👌 Not exactly related but since it is pictured I thought I should mention that my children and I have been staring at every image we have of Luna moths (the drawing above from this book is a personal favorite). We have been wanting to see one ever since we learned about them many years ago. They are supposed to be found where we are currently but so far no luck. Anyone know where they tend to be? In the forests? In the fields?
